Solid Course in Poland 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

I was in Krakow for work, and saw there was a highly rated course close by. I hopped on a bus over the weekend, and was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. I played the standard 12 hole lay-out one time, and the 14 hole lay-out (included two "temp" holes) one time.

- The course sits within a beautiful multi-use park. The course was well maintained, but isolated enough from the rest of the park such that hitting other people using the park was unlikely

- Decent shot variety. While there were no holes over 400 ft (122 m), different types of shots were required. There was a nice mix of open holes and wooded holes. Hole 7 (standard layout #) was my favorite "open" hole, and also the longest on the course. That hole required a solid drive placed in between two large trees, then an approach into a basket tucked right in front of the woods.

- Good baskets, including one elevated basket. The tee-pads were a mixed-bag, some on the concrete trails, some the standard concrete tee-pad. Other holes were lacking tee-pads (see negatives below)

- I appreciated that the course punished you for bad shots, but it would be difficult to lose a disc.

- Overall, the difficulty was intermediate, but I appreciated the different shot selection choices the course caused you to make. The course did not feel repetitive.

Cons:

- Navigation. This was exacerbated by the two layouts. For the standard 12 hole layout, a course map was available at the start of the course, plus on U-Disc. Navigating this layout was not overly challenging, but there was some interesting layout choices. Tees for 8 and 9 were right next to each other. The walk from 9 to 10 is quite far. There are spray-painted guides, but these are primarily to lead you to the 2 new holes. This threw everything into wack, as the new holes do not have tee-pads, are set in the woods, and the baskets are not close to the next tee-pad. The "next hole" sign on hole 8 was also pointed in the wrong direction, which was very confusing. There needs to be more explicit directions. Plus, the new holes were fine, nothing too special. Both set in the woods, but they lacked tee-pads, and were marked with sticks. In addition, the navigation after playing these holes was very challenging; the basket was not close to the next tee. The confusion these holes caused was not worth the quality of the hole.

- More navigation- It was hard to find hole 1 from the standard park entrances. This is only an issue the first time you play, but head toward the skate-park- hole one is right by there.

- No holes that would really challenge an advanced player.

Other Thoughts:

-The issues of this course could be solved with a map for the 14 hole layout, signs on the tee-pad, and hole numbers on the basket. I would suggest just playing the standard 12 hole layout the first time you play, so as not to waste time figuring out where the extra two holes are.

- Coming from the US, the number of holes is odd. Not a knock, but I am just used to 18 or 9.

- Check out the rest of the park if you have time! The zoo and walking trails were both fantastic.

Pros:

Lots of shots. From big giant hyzers to plenty of right hooks and a few alleys. Interesting island shots and mands. Definitely a place to play if you're a disc golfer in Poland.

Cons:

The grass needs maintenance.

Other Thoughts:

Benches, and more trash cans.
