9 very well laid out holes, challenging both right and left hand players. some very well placed slight elevation changes that must be worked around. great length here, with holes over 500' and 3 pin positions per hole. several holes offer different drive opportunities with only 2 mandos on the course. two very tough tunnel holes play longer than they are. on site bathrooms, water fountain, picnic tables, and BBQ pits. the course wraps back on its self and you start and finish in the same spot. great retention wall on hole 8 the keep debris off the pad.

nothing stands out. one kinda crossing fairway on 1 and 2. PO is out of bounds most of the time.

when this course is set up in all long pin placements, it has been as hard as any other nine holes i have ever played for score. very different from Hellyer only a half mile away. the course is now open all year. there will no longer be any winter shut down.

This is tough course requiring 400 foot dogleg bombs on some holes to get birdie shots. Tunnel shots are necessary for a few holes.
A good roller might do well on some of the long holes.

Terrain is wooded but not a forest so a couple holes allow you to air it out. There are no boring holes, even in short position. It is rarely crowded , but usually someone is there if you have questions about the holes.

Plenty of parking, pretty close to highway.

Only 9 holes. Some poison oak if you throw in the rough. Course may demoralize you if you think you can routinely shoot 3's on any hole under 700 feet.

I can't think of a tougher course out there from my west-coast perspective... Distance (check), heavily wooded (check), lots of OB (check). Despite its difficulty, this course is a ton of fun to play.

Closed during the winter. Thats the main problem. Also if you are affected by poison oak
(as I am), you have to be extremely careful and get your various scrubs and cleansers ready.

This place is especially good because it is mostly shady, has water and bathrooms as well as many picnic tables and barbeque pits. To top it all off, La Raza is usually not crowded at all.

different scenery from hellyer and much less crowded. good variety of holes, and the one over the parking lot is fun (the vacant parking lot is counted as OB).

you can't know what you're doing unless someone shows you around. horrible signage. it's also in an obscure location, so though it's less than a mile from hellyer, it's really hard to get to. there is a LOT of poison oak very close to where you're playing

Secluded yet easily accessible, VERY challenging holes, a great place to greatly improve your game without going to faraway courses. Restrooms, bbq, and a good sized parking lot are available.

Closed from October to April because the city deems the park a flood plain. The SVDGC is working with the city to hopefully remove that label and keep it open year round.

A fun course, and some very challenging holes. The first hole has a full S-shaped fairway path through heavy shrubby trees to the basket...even though the distance is short, this is a definite par 3. Hole 2 is a nice one to try your big S-throws to hit the pin on the drive. Holes 4, 5, and 9 are longer holes played through some challenging low-hanging limbed trees...it is tough to find a line that doesn't hit a branch somewhere. Holes 3 and 6 are the shortest and easiest. Hole 8 is across a closed OB parking lot, which is also fun. Wonderful rubber tee pads, and fantastically maintained. A nice little park too, somewhat quiet and surprisingly secluded even though it is right next to the 101 freeway.

The tee maps (although very nice art and professionally done) are not always very helpful given the complexity of the course. Few tee shots have a view of the baskets, so some familiarization is necessary to begin.

Take a walk-through or practice round of the course before playing it more seriously in order to get a feel for basket locations. We saw park rangers patrolling, so keep your beers, etc., low profile around here.

Long, Technical, New DGA Mach V's, Nice parking lot, Nice rubber tee pads, Best 9 hole course in California, Very Challenging. Artificial lake OB. Lots of roped OB to protect natural habitat.

Hard to get there from the neighboring course Hellyer Park. Ask a local for directions from Hellyer. Also its shut down for the winter due to it being on a flood plain.

This course is simply the best 9 hole course ever designed. When all holes are set to its truly long positions it is very rare to walk away 1 or 2 under par. Most of the time you are fighting to stay at even par. Being a pro from Delaveaga in Santa Cruz, CA. I have to say that I really appreciate this quality course with it's very own unique challenges. All courses are not created equal... and once you visit La Raza you will see why!

With the new pin position for hole 1(as of January 2008), this course now has 5 true par 4s. Excellent shot variety, requires good distance through moderate gaps for most teeshots. Rubber pads are well installed and grip well even in poor weather. Course rewards controlled upshots, and the par 4s run the spectrum from fairly easy to downright nasty(hole 1 long).

One great feature on several of the par 4 holes is the variety between tee shot fairway shape and upshot-basket route shape. Meaning, there are many holes where a righty backhand hyzer is the ideal tee shot, but a narrow left-to-right shot is needed to approach the basket.

Great signs on the course as well as a good group of locals.

A few really scary poison oak spots. Course is closed from January 1 to April 15 each year.

I'd think that if you did a global rating of all 9-hole courses, La Raza would definitely be in the top 3.
