I don't think that I've ever seen a Front 9 and Back 9 that were more different. The front nine is lush and green, while the back nine is harsh and gritty.

Front Nine - Built through a well-watered, nicely maintained city park, the front 9 is a series of 200' - 300' holes playing over lush mowed grass and though mature trees. While there are trees in play, they are trimmed well up from the ground and are widely spaced, leaving mostly open holes.

Holes 3 and 8 play across a fast-running stream, but the carry distances are short enough that losing a disc is not much of an issue. A few alternate tees add some variety, as well as some confusion.

Back Nine - Built on a dry, treeless hillside, covered with grasses and low vegetation. Holes play up, down and across the hillside, adding a challenge of elevation that is completely missing on the front nine. Hole lengths are longer, with some 400' and 500' holes.

Holes 11, 13, and 17 are uphill holes, while 12, 16 and 18 play back down the hill. Hole 18 is a short finishing hole playing into the only trees on this side of the course.

Teepads are concrete and/or rubber mats and are decent. Tee signs offer useful hole diagrams and the usual par/distance information. DISCatcher baskets catch fine. A large kiosk near the parking area has large maps, though they don't seem to be completely accurate for the layouts I played.

Front Nine - While a very pretty little park course, there wasn't really a lot of variety or challenge. Mostly open throws across grass. There is a walking trail that winds through the course, and on the Saturday morning I played it seems to be Dog-Walker Central. There were easily 25 people walking dogs on the trail, and I found myself waiting frequently for the area to clear before driving.

Navigation is a little odd with several holes having and additional "A" teepad that makes flow somewhat confusing. The original teepad and sign for Hole 7 is still in place, but a new playground blocks the fairway and the basket seems to have been pulled.

Back Nine - This is a dry, unmaintained area, covered with low vegetation, and the low vegetation is covered with spines. You will be throwing into and playing in the prickly stuff, as there are no fairways and no way to avoid it. I wish that I'd worn long pants as wading into knee-high thorns and thistles wasn't much fun.

This plays as two separate courses with completely different personalities. Even the maps number each half as Holes 1 through 9.

I played the front half a couple of times but the back half only once. Frankly I wasn't anxious to get back into the thorny prickles on the back side.

Large parking lot. Restroom next to the parking lot was locked on Saturday morning.

Due to a bum ankle I was only able to play the front nine, I will be back to play it all. It really is a nice little course. I wouldn't make the trip from far to play but if your driving thru and want to take a break its alright.
If you can throw with any distance then the water wont be a big deal, besides in the summer I wouldn't have a problem going after my plastic, looks low and clear.
There are bull snakes which are harmless but can be big and rattlers in the area. Just watch it on the hillside around rocks in the summer.

The front nine is just your basic little city park course with a small stream dividing it. The park is very clean and well maintained, nice grass to play on. There are brand new Discatcher baskets, nice informative signs, teepads are adequate, the restroom was open and clean for public standards and there is a kiosk at the start with course information. The basic 9 hole configuration has no holes over 300 feet. However, there is a alternate hole which measures 550 feet. It's fun to throw across the stream on # 3, 4 and 8. You just have to be able to throw about 100 feet to clear it. This is just a really nice little recreational/family course.

I don't see anything majorly wrong here. There was hardly anyone here the day I played. It's fairly easy to follow. The two alternate holes were a little confusing.

A back nine is going in up on the hillside beyond the baseball field. This nine will be totally different from the little park course. The baskets are in. Poles are up for the signs. It's much longer than the front nine. As of June 2010, the teepads are very rough. But there so much potential here for a really challenging course. With the heat, the length, hiking up and down this hillside and the ever-present wind, this course will challenge all. And there is plenty of room to add another 9 holes here. As of now, it only plays halfway up the hill. # 18 will be a very sweet hole. Just a simple little touch shot, straight down the hill to a basket in some trees maybe 260 feet, with I'm guessing here, a drop of 75 feet.

What I would like to see them do here is make this a seperate course. Don't call it the back nine. Call it the Hillside Course or something. Many of the people playing the park course would get eaten up over here.

When this is completed, I'll be adding to my rating. Eventually, this will be a nice course for Pendelton and surrounds. Are there any surrounds surrounding Pendelton? Or it it just sagebrush, hayfields and jackrabbits?
