Ok course could be better

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 12, 2024 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Decent use of the minor elevation changes on the property.

Cons:

Almost zero shot shaping requirements on any of the holes. Lava rocks that will chew up your discs worse than almost any other terrain feature.

Other Thoughts:

This course is fine. It's decent enough given the property but I think it could be significantly improved with some changes. The most interesting aspects of most holes are can you put it close to the pin at x distance on a hyzer or whatever shape you prefer. That's a super boring course and yes this course is super boring. The property doesn't have terrain features for much more than this but I do think there is room for improvement. I'd rather see the course reworked to include a bunch of short holes where the pin or the tee is near the small trees that do exist on the course where you're forced into certain lines/shapes. There's a limit to this approach given that all the open space makes it too easy to just throw sometime over the top. However, there are enough trees that you could get creative with tee pads and pins to force some creative lines with shorter holes. You could probably squeeze in a 24 or maybe 27 hole layout if you took that approach.

Can You Help Me Out Here? 2+ years

Pros:

Course is set next to Pine Nursery Park. The actual terrain is a scattered pine forest with a little elevation and lots of sagebrush and dirt.
The amenities are first class. Great big course map at the beginning (too bad it's for a 9 hole course). Nice big concrete tee pads, tee signs with two placements at each hole complete with sponsors. Nice DGA baskets with the red numbers.

For the holes I played, I like # 17. # 8 playing from the rocks was rather cool, also.

Cons:

I was basically lost before I ever actually found the course. I needed to play this little 9 hole course and get on the road. Not being from Central Oregon, I don't have a clue which way is west so couldn't really follow the directions to the course. I drove to the far end of the parking lot and wandered around. SUGGESTION: Change course directions to this. Enter park and park in the corner of the first lot on the right.

Then I attempted to play the course. I didn't have anymore luck navigating the course then I did locating it. I did find the first tee (nice tee) and threw out to that yonder basket which I incorrectly assumed to be # 1. It's not, nor could I ever determine where # 1 basket actually is hiding. I then played (I think) 2-9, then ran into a sign that said # 14, AND I thought I was playing a 9 hole course. How about updating your DGCR information page to show that this is now a 18 hole course?

There was no way of determining which placement the basket was currently set in.

Other Thoughts:

Very decent terrain for a course. Lousy directions on where to park. DGCR sheets need to be updated with clearer directions on where to park and the fact that this is now an 18 hole course. Awesome course sign is now obsolete. Navigation issues need to be addressed. This course has a ton of potential. It just needs to be unleashed!

As things stand now, I had a much more enjoyable round playing Hyser Pines in Sisters. This should be the more enjoyable course of the two.

Needs Work 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 24, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lots of parking, shooting out of tall rocks on hole 8 is very cool.

Cons:

Impossible to find holes without a map or an experienced course user. Most holes are not very interesting, generally just straight shots with minimal obstacles. No tee pads at the moment (concrete pads rumored?).

Other Thoughts:

There were a bunch of fellows chipping trees out around hole 5, so that tells me that there is work being done. But that does not necessarily mean work is being done to the course. With proper signage and tee pads this course will still only bump up to a 3 or a 3.5.
