Relatively flat course with beautiful views. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 15, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Caught this course during the fall leave change... yellow and reds everywhere! Incredibly beautiful.
- Plays near a small river with great views of surrounding mountain ranges.
- Due to location, seems like this wouldn't be crowded often. Had the course all to ourselves on a Saturday in September BUT the main parking area was closed. There is a very convenient pedestrian bridge at the other end of town where you can park and walk to hole #1.
- Almost no elevation change makes this course a welcome change from the more mountainous courses in the region. Played this in the same day as Steamboat Springs Thunderhead course and it was a nice 1-2 combo with very different types of courses.
- The hole distances are reasonable, not having to crush many huge open shots, but still enough to use a range of discs from your bag
- The tree coverage is perfectly balanced, not too much and not too little. Most of the fairways are pretty well defined. Difficult to lose a disc here unless you take a bad fade out of the park area (likely laying you past a barbed wire fence near a very brushy area near railroad tracks).
- Navigation very easy and great signage at all holes.
- pro quality baskets at every hole.

Cons:

Not much to complain about here, a great little course and perfectly balanced in terms of hole distance, tree guarding, and overall difficulty. Two cons to list from this visit would be the closed parking area mentioned above, and a bit of a stink around hole 6... couldn't tell if this was a poorly maintained port-a-potty or if it was just a "low tide" kind of smell coming from the river. Luckily it wasn't bad once you moved from the area, but if the whole course smelt like that it would be rough!

Another improvement I'd like to see is concrete tee pads, currently they are rubber but they play fairly well.

Other Thoughts:

Hot Sulphur Springs seemed like a bit of a quiet town, something about the vibe made us be on our best and quietest behavior when we were parking and preparing to play. Be mindful of this small community if you roll up with a big crew!

Great quick/short course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 6, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I hit this course on the way up to Steamboat and the way back. Scenic setting, no crowds. There's only about three holes where you'll need a driver (all par 3s, except one oar 4), but after having played Snow Mountain Ranch in the AM it was nice to throw a lot more mid range shots (most holes are from 200-300 feet with a couple aceable shots).
Well marked
Great tee boxes
Can make it around in about an hour, hour and a half. Considering the location of this course, it's a perfect spot to hit on your way somewhere else.

Cons:

As mentioned, it's a short course. Most baskets are a straight shot from the tee box though there is some variable terrain including woods and brush. If you're looking to work on your short game, then this is a great place to practice.
Did get pretty windy

Other Thoughts:

After playing one, you have to follow the path past #7 and around to #2. I made the mistake of playing #7 our of order the first time through. Hole #9 is a little tricky to find too. Once you play #8 follow the road past where you parked and you'll see the tee pad on the left.
