- Compact, it is never too hard to find the next tee and its usually no more than a skip away.

- While it is close to a sparsely used road, generally there is little through traffic from the regional park it is a part of

- A few of the 18 holes are in open space, but most of it is in wooded areas. Be prepared to hit a few trees.
- You can lose discs pretty easily on a few holes, but there is no major creeks or rivers

This is a pretty well planned course that can be extremely fun for anyone looking for some more challenging technical shots. Non county residents may have to pay a fee on weekends and holidays but weekday visitors can play for free. enjoy!

Uique old school throws a must. To many courses are designed the same. This course is a great place to revisit the throwing style you had day one. Hard lefts and a few rights. Requires percision and calm.

Pay to park, or play. 7 bucks. I talked to the kid who was on park clean up he said no one really cares about people paying to play, I didnt. I also got thereally an hour before closing.

Bring your patience and emy race it.

very tight course with close holes, not much walking from pin to tee.

Redone tee pads make throwing much easier (all concrete now, no wood or hard dirt)

new baskets and multiple tee set up makes this course challenging over an above the all tree set up.. (bring your 'used' discs here, or you'll be treebanging those new ones)

there is a nearby store that you can purchase discs and other items from (down the road past the water park area) it closes at 8 which gives plenty of time to check out the innova plastic.

8 dollar parking fee for those not from the fairfax county area (you can buy a season pass to all the PW parks for 30 dollars, i'd suggest this if you plan to play 4 or more times)

new pin locations put almost every basket behind a tree. While this might be exciting for veterans and those able to control their throws well, this is very difficult for new players.

trees, trees and more trees. if you don't have lots of disc control, expect to hit lots of trees.. only 3 holes have wide open area to shoot through (that's really not a con, but the tress sure can be)

I've played this course since around 2004 and while it's changed with upgraded baskets and other minor things, the recent pin relocations really made my head spin. the course was already challenging to me, now it's a bit too difficult, even if I use the short tee set. the tee maps show multiple pins, but each hole only has one basket currently.

this is my 'home' course, since i learned on it and it's within 10 miles of my house. it's a fun course, with lots of shade and even on busy days, it only takes about 45 minutes to complete.

-solid concrete tee pads / most holes have 2 tees
-New DisCather Pros / multiple pin placements.
-Great new tee signs.
-Easy to navigate.
-Great opportunity to practice a variety of shots & accuracy.
-little opportunity for lost discs or super frustration.
-Restrooms (Not near course - you will have to travel to another area of the park)
-Many trash cans / Pretty clean course
-Course plays quick - great for a round at lunch or the quick DG fix.
-Park has camping, water park & boat launch
-Opportunity for wildlife spotting - Park is on Pohick Bay & Mason Neck is just down the road.
-Dedicated locals / Course is being well maintained (Donations accepted)

-No big boomer holes / Leave your cannon at home.
-Some OB (an errant drive may put park road & putt putt course into play)
-Park is not near much civilization such as shops or restaurants. (Perhaps not a con?)
-Restrooms are not near the course and are sometimes locked depending on time of year.
-May have to pay to enter park depending on the time of the year.

If Virginia had a museum for old DG courses, Pohick Bay would be a prime exhibit. To the Newbie, it may seem to be a rinky dink little course but to the old time local, we have fond memories from times when this was one of the few courses around. If you take a moment, you will notice the tress have Gak Scars from decades of misguided drives. The course has introduced thousands of new players to the game during that time as well.
The new baskets have given the place a much needed face lift and instantly bumped my rating for this course up a point. The park manager is putting in the time and money to give the place a fresh look. and the locals have responded as well. The new tee signs plus the renovated and new teepads gave it another .5. The majority of play is in the woods and the fairways are well defined. It is still the tricky, little course in the trees that it has been for 30+ years, but an errant drive isn't going to kill your scorecard too often. Most holes are deuceable and many make for great ace runs. In contrast, the alternate tees make you play a few hole for a 3.
It's nostalgic, a novelty and one of the great old ladies of Northern VA. Sometimes it's nice to hang out in a museum.
