In the Back 40 - Now only 7 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 12, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete Tees
-Course in its own part of park
-Decent Baskets
-Trees a challenge, but not punishing, minimal elevation
-OK Signage (DGA Peel 'n Stick)
-Upkeep of Park is good
-Quick play

Cons:

-A little short, uninteresting for experienced players
-No benches / trash cans
-Road runs through/around course (in play on #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5)
-Holes #8 and #9 have been removed (2022)

Other Thoughts:

Prairie Bridges DGC is located in the "back 40" (western edge) of Prairie Bridges Park just north of Ackley, IA. A quick 7 holes that plays in its own section of the park. Lots of trees that make you shape your shots, but have a couple of options for each hole. Holes 8 and 9 have been replaced by more campsites, so it is down to 7 holes. Benches / trash cans and a map would add to the rating for me on this one. The 7 are OK, but quite an obvious afterthought in this park, hidden back in the very back. I probably won't play again.

Casual, Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

--Cement teepads
--Mostly wooded course that remains well manicured
--Not very busy despite being on a campground
--Very well marked holes. Signage includes distance and diagram of the hole. The baskets also have hole #'s positioned visibly on-or-near them. This is a very tightly packed course so this is critical to knowing where you are throwing

Cons:

--Extremely short. I believe only 3 or 4 holes are over 200 ft.
--Not much in terms of variety. A couple tiny hyzers, a couple poke and hope holes, a couple where the basket is 180 ft. in front of you with no hazards.

Other Thoughts:

This is definitely a beginner's course, but it is very good for its intended purpose. Well kept and well thought out use of a very tiny property. There is one long 390 foot mostly open hole, and a 290 footer with a very difficult to hit line. But other than that, a good player won't use really anything other than his putter. If you are camping in the area, grab a putter and a mid-range and come out for a relaxing 9 holes that takes about 20 minutes. But no need to go out of your way for this.
