Simple Course

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Easy for beginners
-Quick Play
-Quiet Park

Cons:

-Very old baskets in poor shape
-#9 basket missing (seems has been for while)
-Crude signage
-Natural tees
-#1 fairway goes right through swing set

Other Thoughts:

Prairie City Park hosts most of a DGC in the southern part of Prairie City, IA. Marked here as Mach I baskets, they are single chain and have seen better days. There are tee signs, but it is limited information. I can see this course being OK for beginners, for others, there is very little challenge. The first hole is on the other side of a large swingset from the tee, a hazard to say the least. The others work around the park with a few trees to affect your lines, but not really much. In need of an overall re-fresh and slight re-design, at this point it is mostly a bagger's course. Stop by for a quick round to pad your stats or your course count, but I probably won't play here again.

INFO
Very short course shares space with playgrounds and picnic areas in small, community park across from schools. Brightly colored baskets with single chains and color coordinated signs feature prominently among other park features. Holes are arranged in an easy to follow manner with little walking required between holes. A few fairways are situated very close to other playground amenities, which could prove dangerous when park is crowded with visitors. Throughout the course are slight elevation changes and plenty of shade.

EVAL
This beginner course is obviously designed for play by children. Longest hole is 290 feet, and all five holes over 200 ft are listed as par 4 holes. Thus, this would seem to be a course for building one's confidence before tackling longer courses in the area. And with that in mind, it succeeds as a good course for learning to play the game for those unable to throw far at first. Disc golfers should consider this a pitch and putt course, easily playable in 20 minutes. It makes for a pleasant area to warm up one's putting before playing nearby parks.

LAYOUT
Course begins on left side of community building. First hole throws around community building and past swing set. Second hole throws straight (despite tee sign description) and uphill alongside fence on right. Hole #3 throws downhill past basketball court and right of community building. Hole #4 throws back uphill alongside #3's fairway and past trees. Hole #5 throws to right of picnic shelter and over crest of hill towards trees. Hole #6 throws past trees, past picnic shelter on left and towards street. Hole #7 throws back alongside #6 fairway and past trees toward SW corner of park. Hole #8 throws straight towards street, past trees and alongside fence on right. Hole #9 throws straight towards community building.
