The Fallen Prince 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has, arbitrarily, a decent to good design. Each hole, with maybe an exception or two, is somewhat interesting and straightforward.

The tee pads are good size concrete. Not large, but large enough, you never feel cramped. The signs on each tee are accurate and detailed (BUT THIS APP IS NOT. I FORGOT TO WRITE DOWN THE TRUE DISTANCES BUT SOME ARE WILDLY OFF)

Hole 6 was my favorite, just a gentle putter anny downhill, maybe 200ft. But I enjoyed Hole 1 as well, and a few others. Hole 7 was my least favorite, but other than how bad holes 7 and 8 are (really not terrible, just not fun) the rest are fine.

It's a good course in isolation. Fun design, good lines, challenging but open, risky but fair. But sadly, it does not exist separate from the park and other amenities around it.

Cons:

A few typical drawbacks and one pretty big one.

The typical: The baskets are in rough shape. Some of them are just a little old (hard to believe it's the nice discatchers previous reviewers were raving about, but maybe they've just weathered quickly). Hole 9's basket looks like a giant tried to chew it, then spit it out when they realized it wasn't edible.

The big one: Course danger. There's some construction on hole 2 that you have to throw through. Hole 3 throws straight downhill at some tennis courts. Holes 4, 5, 8, and 9 throw through populated areas of people going to play tennis, or, more likely, people going tubing. I played in the summer on a Friday, but having grown up around here I don't think any days when the weather is nice, you're going to be able to avoid people. Today was awful (even the maintenance guys were hanging around the baskets by the road), but I think it's going to be a problem more often than not.

Other Thoughts:

Without the hazards of the park this would be a 2.5. I almost rated this course a 2, but really the hazards plus playing around the cars and crowds made me really question some of the choices.

I really enjoyed my round, but there are more holes with danger hazards (2, 3, 5, 8, 9) than without. Plus the real meh design of 7, and hole 8 was probably fine when installed but the tree branches have grown larger and lower taking all lines. The strength of the remaining holes just can't outweigh both of those.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 12, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice DISCatchers. The holes by the river were nice(5-7) because they used elevation and had risk shots because of the creek. There are lights from the tennis court and basketball court that are helpful if you are playing later in the day.

Cons:

Wow, this course had a lot cons and honestly very few pros. This course was in a sketchy area. This is the first time I honestly felt a little threatened by the people at a park. There are no signs so navigation is a nightmare. They only holes that were good were 5-7( the ones by the river). Everything else was wide open. I made my own tee up on 8 due to lack of signage. ( Hole 3 you cross the street and throw toward the group of trees) Hole 4 shoots by tennis court. 5 is threw the gate, down the hill by the water. 6 you shoot back up hill and 7 is along the fence and long, with the basket by the creek. 8 is on the other side of the tennis court. 9 is back by the parking lot. I hope that helped for navigation reasons. Try to play this course during the daylight to be safer.

Could Be a nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 8, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy to find right next to The Schlitterbahn and the Comal River so you get to see lots of Bikini Clad Girls. The Course is ok. Lots of easy shots

Cons:

No real Signs to show you the layout of the course. Couldn't find #6 (Saw in an earlier review that it was lost to a flood)

Other Thoughts:

Could be a nice Course if the City would put just a little effort into it. When we go toobing again, I would probably play it just to get some throws in.

Disappointing Potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice location on the Comal river in beautiful and historic New Braunfels.

Cons:

First, I'll say there is construction going on in the park and we played with hurricane Alex dropping sporadic rain on us. That being said, the course lacks adequate signage and flows poorly. The course map available here was almost useless, it appears baskets have moved and tee markers disappeared. This course does have potential for some great holes and I hope it evolves once park construction is finished. I will definitely check on it the next time I'm in the area.

Other Thoughts:

As is, this is a good course for beginners and to work on your mid/short game, but is frustrating to find the correct layout. Just play it the best you can and have fun.
