Some Pure Lines at PureLine drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a very Rec friendly course, flat with no shot over 290', but plenty of trees and creative mandos to keep it a challenge and fun. There are several practice baskets near hole 1, perfect for testing out that new plastic from PureLine.

Hole 3 has a drainage ditch behind the basket and hole 4 tees off over the same ditch to bring the element if water into play on two holes. Hole 5 has a hanging basket positioned between 3 trees, those are always fun. Every hole has trees in play, somewhere, really giving a sense of fun compared to an open field concept.

All of the tee signs have the necessary info you'd look for: length, par, map, next tee arrows; making the course fairly easy to navigate. (See cons)

The course has two tee areas per hole. Most of the long tees have benches tee at every hole, while the short tees are marked with pink flags. The tee signs are located at the long pads give the lengths for both the long and short positions. I didn't notice the short pads, but the long pads utilize carpets and they work better than most rubber pads and even gravel/natural pads I've played on with great grip and no fear of slipping.

The course maintenance is great - the grass is cut, the drainage ditch isn't overgrown, and the trees are trimmed up and there aren't any errant branches.

Cons:

The walk from 2s basket to 3s teepad was a bit confusing (until reading previous reviews). The course map QR code brought me to a page that said "URL expired" so I wasn't able to utilize that to get around.

It looks like hole 3 plays directly through an overflow parking area for the church, and the tee for hole 4 looks like it plays fairly close as well, so use caution during service hours.

I didn't see any trash cans, but this is a quick enough track they aren't needed (I'm just nitpicking).

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice and chill 9 hole track located right on 49th St N in Pinellas Park, FL, directly adjacent to the PureLine Disc Golf store. PureLine is the brainchild of local pro, Charlie Goodpasture, and he was able to work with the church next door to utilize the unused property between them to get this course in.

With a couple of Next Tee signs, and a course map posted somewhere, this could be a premier stop for Pinellas County. Having a disc golf pro shop on site is always a great amenity, made even better that it's run by a professional level player who's been in the game most of his life.

This course is a 10 minute drive from the shop I work at and a 3 minute drive to my wife's workplace - I'll definitely be getting some rounds in here.

Grab A Disc And Throw A Round! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 3, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Disc golf stores are a rare and special thing and those with courses next to them are priceless. The store seemed fully stocked with a wide variety of new discs for sale. I picked up a gold flower stamped Get Freaky Cryztal FLX Zone while I was there. The store and course are run by a local pro, Charlie Goodpasture who is pleasant and knowledgable and loves talking about disc golf.

The course features one set of carpet tee pads that are not bad actually and are well anchored. There are decent tee signs (the tee signs show two sets of tees but I believe there is currently only one set. The course is supposed to get concrete tees though so the tee signs probably are for the final product). The baskets are nice and it looked like some holes had 2 possible pin placements.

The course has plenty of trees to navigate around and with the recreational distances, it would make for a good summertime course for the area.

Cons:

The cons are mostly indicative of the newness of the course and could be easily remedied. The baskets need numbering. There are a few holes where multiple baskets can be seen from the tee and we were not sure if we were throwing to the right target or not. Navigation aids are needed. The navigation is kind of wonky. I strongly encourage using a map or playing with a local guide your first time around.

Other Thoughts:

With distances in the 250-300' range, this course is not going to challenge the top area courses, but it's not intended to. Alcohol is allowed as it is a private course and you have to sign a waiver before you can play. $2.00 fee for all-day play. The course will probably be a popular buddy BYOB round course, and good for those seeking plastic and wanting to toss a warm-up round before moving on to one of the areas 18+ hole courses. This course would move up a tick or two in rating once finished and polished up a little.

The course sits in a lot between the store and a church. The store is kind of hard to spot and didn't seem to have a sign yet. Look for the Kastaplast sign in the store's window.

A pleasant nine

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 24, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

A short distance but fun course located next to a disc golf store. Most players will find the course easy but will be forced to shape lines to get biridies or pars. Mandatories add to the difficulty of the course. Old growth trees are numerous and complicate this engaging nine. The longest drive is 288 and the shortest is 247. The hanging basket is the most memorable feature. Numerous practice baskets are located near the store.

Cons:

The course is still being worked on and concrete tees will be put in soon. Players will find some drives are disjointed and locating tee three will be difficult because it is a long walk across the parking lot. The short tees can be troubling to find because the mats fade into the landscape. A high fence along eight is meant to keep discs from straying into the yards of homes. If a disc flies over the fence, it will be tough to retrieve. A drainage ditch usually has water but retrieving a disc should be doable. Watch out for wild life in that area!

Other Thoughts:

Charlie has a good plan here and hopefully the course will be finished soon. The course has potential to be that quick stress-free round you need occasionally. Also, the store adjacent to the course rewards those with an ace a free disc.
