Flying Pigs

Pros:

This is an interesting course at Walhalla High School. There are some fun aspects. There are some filler holes. And there's a lot of walking around the entire campus.
- Someone needs to tell the area high schools that the standard course has 18 or 9 holes. Between this course and Pickens HS 30 minutes, there are a total of 18 holes. It just happens to be a 10 hole layout here and 8 hole layout at Pickens to get your full 18.
- #1 is a perfectly suitable starter hole. Open fairway to a basket surrounded by trees. You can be the edge of a circle one putt and be in a tree. Good start here.
- #4 - 6 all have aspects of elevation while playing (to various degrees) on a hill. #5 is a fun downhill layout. Take away the parking lot that could come into play, and you could see a hole like this at many area courses (think #6 at Foothills in Easley).
- #6 is a 190 foot uphill shot going partially back up that same hill. Rocks come in to play on this layout, adding another fun aspect to this hole.
- If you don't mind long walks, the tee shot on #9 will be fun. If you can find consistent footing, you can really air one out here. If nothing else, this portion of the course has some outstanding views of the mountains that serve as a backdrop.
- UDisc makes this course easy to navigate. Without the map, you'll be harder pressed to find tees as only some are marked.

Cons:

The course seems spaced out in spots. There are long transitions from #1 to 2, a ridiculously long walk from #8 to 9 where players get to essentially walk the entire length of #9 backwards to get to the tee.
- #3, 4, and 10 are all simple, open layouts. #7 is the only fun open layout. #8 is simple but uphill, which may be good enough for some to consider average or better.
- #9 could be better. I get what they're trying to do, but it doesn't work the way it's designed. A tee shot from a raised hill. After the tee shot, it's a fairway across the soccer field. Not exactly fun or challenging. The tee shot is back slightly uphill. Essentially all that walking so you can throw from a 20 foot hill.
- Ridicously tall underbrush. Growth in fairways was nearly knee high on #4, 5, and 9. My socks and shoes got completely drenched walking through these three holes. It wasn't that early in the morning when I played here as I had already completed a different 18 hole course earlier in the day.
- No amenities for non students. Just know that when coming here to play.
- Signage for the course is lacking. There were markers for the tees for #5 and 9. Other than that, nothing.

Other Thoughts:

Razorback had some nice aspects to it. With all the room around other parts of the campus, why not make it a full 18? Or compact the layout and make it a better 9 hole layout?
- There are some nice holes here. Nothing great however. #5 is really fun. #6 is fun. Everything else is overly simplistic.
- From #1's basket to #3's basket, it's 1/3 mile walk along the front of the school building. There's no quality here, yet you're playing two holes. At least you get to see cars flying by on SC-11.
- The school roads come in to play way too much. You can land on pavement on hole #3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 with only a slightly strayed shot.
- If you're a student here, this would be a perfectly suitable course. If you lived in a surrounding neighborhood, enjoy this layout. Enjoy the soccer field on #9 for field work.
- For everyone else, you're playing Sertoma or Shaver every chance you get instead of playing here. I wish there was more to enjoy here, but it just never gets going.
