Not Worth Your Time

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 10, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

WHAT TO EXPECT: 9 Hole Course playing through an apartment complex with tons of elevation and feels more like a course designed for residents to practice and stretch their legs, than a course to be taken seriously.

AMENITIES: There are none, outside of the apartment complex office where you are requested to stop in and get a guest pass (for parking) or you can skip this step and park on the street and walk over. The course is overgrown (for Arizona standards) and not very well maintained.

TEES/SIGNAGE/BASKETS: Tees are small wooden sandbox style rectangles filled with wood chips (2 sets of tees per basket claiming to be an 18 hole course with 9 baskets). Signage is missing in a lot of places, what does exist is aging. Baskets are Mach 3's in decent shape (The basket for Hole #5 was missing, there was a pole but the rest of the assembly was gone).

DESIGN (PROS): Course uses tons of elevation. Entire course is basically played on steep side slopes. The longest hole (#6) comes in at 300 feet with the two shortest holes (#8 and #9) both coming in at just 175 feet each. The elevation makes some of the hole difficult while the distances make this course extremely easy for all skills. Combined with the small and awkward tee pads and extreme slopes, this course probably plays a little harder than it should.

EXTRAS: NAU and I-40 is right nearby making this course easily accessible and the views are incredible. Probably the biggest saving grace for this course.

Cons:

OVERGROWTH: The course is poorly maintained and bushes, brambles, erosion and other factors make this a safety nightmare and finding your discs on the green problematic.

TEE PADS: Though a very short course with the longest hole being only 300 feet, the tee pads are small, not sturdy and awkward to throw from.

SAFETY: You are basically throwing around and through an apartment complex. There are countless spots where you are asked to throw at or near apartments, vehicles, or other people enjoying the outdoors. The wind also rips between buildings causing very unpredictable changes in flight to your discs mid flight. So even if you think you are throwing to a safe location away from people and property, the wind may complicate that.

MISSING BASKET: I notified the person in the office that the basket for Hole #5 was missing and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "yeah, we know." Apparently he wasn't that concerned.

Other Thoughts:

While some of the Holes had a quirkiness to them, none were difficult or memorable (outside of one completely missing it's basket). This course was more annoying than it was fun with the overgrowth, the rough terrain, the safety issues everywhere. We decided not to loop back around and play the "second nine" from the alternate tees as we had seen enough. We figured we'd give this course a shot as it was right next to the NAU course which was extremely solid, but this one failed to deliver. Unless you live in the apartment complex or are trying to bag them all, this course is a waste of time.
