The Worst of the 5 in the Cloud 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 10, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is in one of the most beautiful settings in the area, possessing the charm of the nearby Sauk River (it ranks ahead of Mayhew and Calvary, but isn't as magnificent as Millstream or Riverside).

Hole 3 is a particularly dazzling hole, which must run about 375 feet down to a protected green right on the shore. It's unlikely that one would throw it in unless you can throw more than the hole's distance and go over or if you really have little control of your shots under 150 feet.

Holes 4, 5, and 6 are also spectacular technical holes, with the backdrop to #6 a pile of boulders and an old train bridge that crosses the river (a RHBH slice could go in).

Cons:

The rest of the course is a huge disappointment.

1 and 2 are flat, open holes in the awkward distance range between a mid and a full driver (both super easy RHBH hyzers, though they challenged this LHBH because there was no lefty line).

Holes 7 and 8 were straightforward, mostly wide open and easy because they were putter length. Hole 9 was one of the longest holes, but it was just straight, wide open and completely boring.

No tee pads.
Signs missing for holes 4, 6, and 7.
Signs damaged and without info other than the hole number on 3, 5 and 9.

Other Thoughts:

It's a multi use park and I understand some of the restrictions that a designer faces with avoiding other patrons, but the setting next to the river is so rugged and beautiful that one had high hopes for the most dazzling 9 hole course ever.

Sadly, less than half the holes were any good at all and the lack of tee pads and damage to the signs made it no fun at all.
