Good Mix 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice cement tees, they've got a nice mix of everything out here, 18 is a nice downhill tunnel shot nice way to end the round, some open holes with nice distance and then some tight ones through the woods.

Cons:

Signs, most are missing some spots got confusing to navigate, they could fix the signs if i pay to play.

Other Thoughts:

I would recommend using spotters out here if you get off the fairway it can get a little thick and make finding discs hard. Fun course worth the trip I can't wait to come back out.

Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 22, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good mix of holes. Short holes, long holes, dog leg right, dog leg left, elevation changes, open fairways, wooded fairways - this place has got it all.

Cons:

Some of the short wooded holes are kind of lame (i.e. holes 8 and 9).

Other Thoughts:

I love to call this my home course. Of course I learned how to play at Knollwood (unfortunately) but, I got better at Roger Morris. Hard place to loose a disc, I've lost two discs the four plus years I've been coming here (one on nine, the once water hole and one in the woods on hole ten). I love the par three finishing hole of 18, sometimes it's a tough hole to par and it ends up breaking your score. No more dogs for three dollars. New signs and some new benches were recently put in!

My personal #1 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-GREAT hole variety.
-Very nice elevation changes. #9 in particular, though I hear it used to be a benchmark challenge hole, is still an unforgettable 'pure downhill' woods hole.
-Besides one layout issue with #3, you will never be crossing over other holes. Just remember - after the first nine, you have to walk back towards the parking lot to continue the round to the back 9.
-This course demands you use every shot you possess. RHBH-exclusive throwers will have a tough time with some of these holes.
-Very clean.
-Little, if any, waiting involved.
-Awesome park. This place is worth a day trip - play a round of 18, go for a swim in the lake, have a picnic, and play another 18. (bathrooms and fountains here.)
-Very memorable holes. #18, to me, is a perfect last hole. All downhill, straight shot at the basket. Many long, open holes for your full power drives.

Cons:

-Not too many I can think of. Bugs are bad here in the summer, so bring spray.
-Couple holes are a little iffy. #1 and #2 come to mind. #1 is a trudge uphill through dense trees. A lot of luck involved here. Same with #2, though not uphill. None of the players in my group made it down the fairway before hitting the trees in the way. Nearly impossible to drive to the basket on this one, even though its hardly 150 ft. long
-Some may complain about paying to get in, however if you have a car of 4 people, it evens out to be $1.25 a person. A small price to pay to play this wonderful course. It also helps keep out casuals.
-A couple holes will make searching for wayward discs a problem. Tall grass is the main issue.

Other Thoughts:

This is my personal favorite course and I highly regard anyone to visit this fantastic park. The difficulty is there, but it's not overbearing enough to impact your attitude. Nice locals will return your discs and chat with you about your round if you stick around. If you are not from the Kalamazoo/Portage area, and love disc golf, make a day trip to play here and at Oshtemo; in my mind two of the better courses in the state of Michigan.

RoMo!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 12, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I've played a whole lot of courses, and I gotta say, RoMo is one of the best. Challenge for all skill levels. You'll be throwing every shot you know how to throw in a round out here. On a great day, you can rip through the course with pure satisfaction. Scores ares earned out here, good or bad. On a bad day, RoMo won't really screw you, won't show a lot you a lot of mercy either. Always leaves me wanting to play more. This course is conquerable, but never easy to do so.

Cons:

2 things keep this course from basically perfect: unjust basket spit-outs (I think they're mach II's), and hole 2 (for ams). Hole 2 has basically just one route, and missing that tight line is usually extremely punishing. Get through this hole alive, and you'll be able to really go for a low round. Get off the middle of the tight fairway soon and start preppin to 5 or 6 it. This hole seperates the good shots from the bad, almost no mercy here.

Other Thoughts:

This course is beautiful, clean, and the design is top notch. 20 bucks for a season pass. I'd pay that much everyday if I had to.

Love the course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 11, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good mix of shots required, elevation changes, nice length, great mix of open holes to wooded holes. little bit of wildlife out there. on hole 18 had a doe walk out in front of us.

Cons:

none that i can think of besides a few holes are missing signs.

Other Thoughts:

5$ to park, bring bug spray for the mosquitoes, get a course map if it's your first time out there, and for beginners great course to play doubles.

RoMo - Robert Morris 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A good mixture of open holes and wooded holes. The pro tees give a good challenge for the long drivers out there. Holes one and two can make or break your round and there is great elevation changes.

Cons:

From Memorial Day until Labor Day you have to pay to get into the park and if you are not a resident of Comstock Township, they make you pay more.

Good Ole Romo 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 27, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-
-Awesome course with elevation, water, and wooded holes.
-Cement tee pads throughout.
-Scenic holes you won't soon forget.
-Not very busy.
-Excellent challenge that will test your distance and accuracy.
-Supberb layout of course. You won't be running into any other holes.
-Course is well marked.
-Course is well maintained.

Cons:

-
-Not DOG friendly, the staff will give you grief if you come between Memorial day and Labor day. Don't bring your dog during this period you will be disappointed as you get turned away. (Goto Coldbrook not far away).
-Long prairie grass easy to lose your disk in the summer.
-Cost's money to play
-During the months after Labor day until Memorial day you have to park outside the park in a small little area that fills up rapidly.

Other Thoughts:

-
My favorite course in the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek area. This course is a must play, it has all the ingredients of a top course. If you are playing between Sept-May start at hole #13 which is right next to the parking spaces (when the park is closed)---sometimes they do open in the off season but rarely. If you do this you will end up finishing on #12 right next to your car.
I
Hole #9 a monster drive is needed to clear the water on this hole!
--Warning for hole #9---
do not go into the water it looks shallow but it is not! It is full of goose and duck droppings and you will be up to your neck in it. Also don't be a jerk and throw picnic tables are other items to try to retrieve your disk, it won't work and the Township board that runs the course will or might end up closing it off or putting in more intrusive rules.

This course is truly a gem, play it if your looking for an excellent course to play in the area.

Update for March 2009.

Vandals and disc golfers have been treating the course poorly and as a result they removed some garbage bins and benches. Thanks guys!

***Update July 31st 2009***
Hole 9 has a new pin placement, just as challenging as before.
The Course itself has gone through some renovation, many trees have been cleared and it looks and plays even better!!!!

Update May 2010
They changed the course layout again. The magnificent hole number 9 got changed to what it was before and it is not as good as it could be.

UPDATE AUGUST 2010
--They still don't allow dogs in the course, although a few reviews claimed you could this is not the case. .

----New signs and more benches really improved this course.

2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 23, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great cement tee pads on all holes, with new signs. Better-than-average maintenance.

Holes 3 through 9 offer varied layouts with both crush opportunities and tech holes.

Back nine is fairly wide open for distance drives and has nicely detailed fairways.

Hole 18 has a long downhill drive with a narrow opening and fairway that demands skill.

Generally easy to navigate.

Cons:

Accessability and parking in fall/winter.
Entrance fee($5).

Holes 1 and 2 are a little too tightly-wooded and seem like they belong at a different course.

Tall grass outside of fairways on the back nine eats discs, especially in mid-summer.

Other Thoughts:

Where to go if you're sick of hitting trees at Oshtemo or Coldbrook, and typically less crowded than either.

One of southwest Michigan's most under-appreciated courses.

3/24/10 Update: Holes 7-9 have been changed back to the pre-2008 layout, with 9 being a short downhill hole instead of the former water hole.

Pros:

really fun and easy to get to. has a wide variety of holes with elevation changes and long and short holes and left and right hooking holes. easy to navigate and wasn't too crowded. also one of the cleaner courses i've played.

Cons:

a couple of the holes are kinda crazy but add to the overall experience. holes #2 and the new #9 come to mind. can be a pain in the butt to find your disc on some of the back 9 holes with the long prairie type grass. also you have to pay to play, but it's worth it.

Other Thoughts:

fun and recommended

Michigan Smorgasborg 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 13, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Well designed course with plenty of variety. Some technical 'woods' holes, some wide open grasslands, elevation (up and down), trees, doglegs right and left, wind, some blind holes. A good place to use every shot in your repetoire. Well marked for the most part, and each nine returns you back to the parking lot allowing you to play either nine or eighteen. The park entrance fee keeps traffic and trash to a minimum.

Cons:

While this is a 'pay to play' course, the five dollar park entrance fee could be split by four players squeezed into the same car, which makes it pretty affordable for a day's outing. Play it twice to stretch your five dollars even further (yearly pass also available). A couple of the holes were a bit 'tree heavy' and could use a chainsaw to open things up a little bit more (hole 8 was just plain ridiculous).

Other Thoughts:

Bring plenty of water, the elevation changes can be quite strenuous in the heat of the day. Bring your swimsuit and take a dip in the lake when you are finished (wish we had).

Pros:

Good variety of short and long holes, technical and open. First hole is a very tough one, uphill through a drain gulley. A few open long holes for big arms to bomb away.

Cons:

Some long grass to swallow discs. I don't mind difficulty, but hole 2 needs some pines removed, complete luck hole.
