Pros:
Rogers Elementary is a 6 hole course that is really on the Binford Elementary grounds ( Go Badgers ! ) . I am going to save you countless steps : When you are on High Street and are approaching Rogers , turn onto 2nd street passing Rogers Elementary on the right . Slowing down , you will see Binford right next to it . The just when you think you are passing Binford's last building , you will see a driveway , turn into it and park as close to the corner of the last building as you can . You will see a tall wooden post next to the building . That is the tee sign for #1 .You're welcome . This is a 6 hole course .
The Equipment is pretty simple . The tee pads are all natural , the tee signs are the large wooden posts with hole # and distance . The baskets are Mach 2s and look in good shape . The course itself starts off park style for the first 2 holes , then enters a woods for 2 holes , then pops out for 2 more park style holes . There are some slight slopes for the holes , a basket that sits on a small ridge at #5 and a downhill slope with a treed fairway , and some newly planted fir trees surrounding the #6 basket . The course was mowed and clean when I played . It rotates clockwise behind the Binford School . It's a nice intro/practice area for the kids and the locals to get in a " quick 6 " .
After wandering around for about 20 minutes behind Rogers looking for this course and having to walk it backwards to find the start , it only took me about 13 minutes to play . It's flat , fast and a great way to work on putting and approaches .
Disc Risk - Low . The holes are short , the woods is light and the course is clean . Not much in the way of overgrowth .
The #6 hole should get special mention . Only 275' , it is a slightly down-sloping right to left drive that you have to lift some to clear some fairway trees , and the basket is surrounded by newly planted fir trees . Great finishing hole .
If anything at all , This course gives everyone a chance to visit this school , give something back to the community , and give the kids another outdoor activity .
Cons:
#1 Play Restriction - I think safety isn't an issue here . The holes are spaced correctly and there shouldn't be chances of anyone hit by a disc during a round . That said , I am sure you won't be able to play during school hours , and you might have to skip hole #5 if there is a soccer game in progress .
#2 Challenge - The course is geared toward elementary school kids . Locals and even 1 discers should be looking at deuces and even aces , here . 4 of the 6 holes go 210' or less , even having a 100' woods hole , and the longest being 275' .
#3 Only 6 Holes - Check the area out behind Actual Rogers Elementary . Adding some holes will add some interest .
If some parents could donate some old carpet , some tee pads could benefit from it .
Other Thoughts:
I still am not sure that an area that has 6 holes of disc golf should be considered a course , but this place seems to work for the elementary schools . Binford Elementary houses grades 3rd thru 6th , which can be perfect for both introducing the game and recess play . Rogers Elementary kids next door ( K thru 2nd ) might want to emulate the bigger kids and give the game a try , too . If the kids bring this back to the family , there are 4 more courses in the general area that they can " graduate " to . I walked the grounds ( not on purpose ) and saw that , even though the course wouldn't flow as well , they could actually add a few more holes ( actually behind Rogers ) on the back end of the property and make it at least 9 holes . They could then challenge other elementary schools to friendly matches .
I don't have a recommendation for a 6 holer , but I will say that this is a good introduction into disc golf for the curious and the kids .
