New basket locations (as of July 2016) make for a totally new experience. New locations are markes by a sticker on the original tee box signage. Course is always well maintained, and the baskets are fairly new and in great condition. Tee boxes are concrete.

Though not a problem for me due to having a short run up, other good players have complained that the tee boxes are too short.

The course superintendents have recently added new basket positions on the first (front) 18, which increases the distance of the course, as well as adds to the complexity. The basket locations have been moved into much more difficult places such as back up against OB fences, in clumps of trees, and in newly created "pockets" in the woodsy areas. It seems that they are trying to get a professional event on this course from what I hear from the locals.

This is a true 36 hole course and it is numbered as such. The first 18 run through the park and look like a typical city park course save a few exceptions. (Some of which will be under the cons section) It was overall a very fun course to play and there is a decent variety of holes. I used a lot of my bag and I think most people would enjoy this course. The last 18 were my favorite part as the course gets quite wooded and more accuracy was required and there were still a couple holes over 300 ft. The two "parts" of the course complement each other well and you have the option to play each part as an 18 as they are separated between the font 18 and back 18.

There were a couple holes that I would call "grip and rip" holes meaning that trees were basically unavoidable without a little luck. Its not really a con but no matter how clean a round you have you will hit a tree at some point. Didn't see any rattlesnakes but the last 18 is called "the rattlesnake challenge" and I'm assuming its for a reason. Once you finish the first 18 you will have to walk around the side of the park to get to 19 and it might take a second to find if you don't know where you are going. No elevation as usual in FL. A concession stand would give this course and extra half point in my book as it is very hot in the summer.

Its an overall scenic course that's challenging and fun. It could make for a frustrating round if you aren't on your A game but I don't think anyone will make it through without at least a couple errant throws. (Especially the back 18) We heard the sound of an Ice cream truck but never sighted the oasis of cold, creamy confections.

Great Course! Has been cleaned up a lot over the years. It's my home course, so of course I play there the most. Definitely needs to be checked out.

Bathrooms located @ hole #14 other than that, pee in a bush!

The Rattlesnake challenge (new holes) isn't my most favorite, too much brush and way out in the back. Watch for snakes! it has that name for a reason!

Should be a course on it's on since it is a little more advanced.

Sports season gets tight around holes 4 & 5. but they did place a "side hole" for #4 so you can shoot around them.

Again it's my home course, the first course I started playing on and you will always meet great people out there!

Clean, quiet, county park with tennis, basketball, softball, several pavilions, tot-lot, and a well-stocked fishing pond.
• Plays like two completely separate 18 hole courses with very different personalities: Original 18 starts at the front (south end) of the park near the main parking lot. Holes 19-36 (dubbed "Rattlesnake Challenge") are located toward the rear (north side) of the park (see Other Thoughts to find these holes).

• Holes 1-18: The Original 18 has a very nice mix ranging from open and very sparsely treed to moderately wooded, and offers decent variety in terms of distance and fairway type, but not much in fairway shape. Open holes allow for multiple lines but not many actually require more than a straight shot. Several of the middle holes feature more trees to work past, and a couple force you to hold a specific route, but as a whole, the front 18 doesn't require a great deal of shot shaping. Distances are nicely distributed from the low 200's to just under 400'. Features several well-placed trees and some good pin placements. Well suited to beginners and challenging enough for Rec/Intermediate players, but not so much for advanced players. Most of the pins are easy to see from the tee. Not much chance of losing a disc.

• Holes 19-36 (Rattlesnake Challenge): Generally more challenging than the Original 18. Moderately to well-wooded and technical for the most part, with varying fairway shapes (L/R/straight) defined by naturally occurring open patches separating clusters of pine and palmetto. Although the fairways are well defined, you can take wider hyzer/annie routes to the pin provided you throw over the low-lying scrub lining the fairways and can thread it through the pines (which aren't bushy at all). Most of these holes are shorter than the Original 18, and generally less forgiving of shots that don't stay in the fairway. Has several blind holes and typically requires more finesse that the Original 18, but lacks variety in terms of fairway type. Thicker foliage means there's a greater chance of losing discs on Rattlesnake Challenge than the front 18, but still not what I'd consider all that bad.

• Equipment: All in good shape with minimal vandalism. Yellow Innovas are easy to see. Concrete tees were sufficient, tee signs have all the pertinents and help with navigation.
• Aesthetics: A nice walk around a fairly busy community park. Entirely pleasant, just not a picture postcard setting. Most scenic part is around holes 12-13, where you get a decent look at the fishing pond.

• Routing and Nav: Not all that bad in some ways, but there's an unlisted Alt hole 4 (with a separate tee and basket of its own) to route you around the open field when it's being used... can be confusing. And 18 additional holes (Rattlesnake Challenge) were added on not that long ago in another section of the park with nary a clue they even exist (let alone where they are) when you're playing the front 18. I applaud the expansion, but how about letting people know they exist? Also can't figure out why the Parks Dept numbered them 19-36 instead of listing it as a separate course and numbering them 1-18.

• Original and Rattlesnake each lack variety in certain ways and each feels somewhat redundant unto itself, but there's no denying they provide good variety between them. While 9 from the Original plus 9 from Rattlesnake could make for a nice 18, there's just not enough variety keep things from feeling repetitive when playing all 36 holes.
• Except for two of the longer holes on Rattlesnake Challenge, nothing really stood out as special.
• Not all that tough to score pars, but deuces have to be earned on most holes.
• Both courses play completely flat.

To find #19: after playing hole 6, proceed to the right (instead of left towards #7) and follow the trail (north), a few hundred feet further into the park. On the left will be a large sign that reads "Rattlesnake Challenge," with a map of holes 19-36 and their distances. 19th tee is to the right of that sign, a bit further into the woods. 36th hole brings you back near #7. Rattlesnake Challenge plays through a section of the park that doesn't see a lot of non-DG traffic and is essentially dedicated to disc golf.

Holes 1-18 play around the perimeter of a mutli-use section of the park. They tried to route things away from most pedestrian traffic, but you still need to exercise patience and caution to avoid trouble.

Even though they're technically numbered 1-36 (not just on DGCR, but on the tee signs and baskets themselves), I see these as two separate 18 hole courses, and really think they should be listed as such. They're laid out in different sections of the park, have distinctly different personalities and levels of difficulty... Rattlesnake Challenge even has its own name and sign.

Even though there are 36 pretty good holes, two good 18's doesn't necessarily make an excellent 36, nor would I say RVZ is a better discing destination than a really great 18 hole course. I'd give either set of 18 between 2.75 -3.0 on its own. Given how well the front and back complement each other, there's no doubt the additional holes make for a richer, more complete experience, which is how I arrive at 3.5, but the entire set of 36 holes still falls short of a truly excellent course.

A word of caution is warranted - Rattlesnake Challenge is appropriately named. This is precisely the type of dry, longleaf pine and palmetto woodlands Eastern Diamondbacks call home. They're well camouflaged and can be harder to see than you might think, even at embarrassingly close distances. Look carefully before reaching into the brush to retrieve your disc. While they have rattles, they do not necessarily always rattle before striking. Some biologists think that individuals which remain silent are less likely to be heard, seen, and killed, making them more likely to pass on their genes to the next generation, perpetuating a genetic disposition for rattlesnakes that tend not to rattle.

Good 18 basket course with lots of trees to make shot selection difficult

Only Problem is Practice Football field near holes 4 and 5 which will be hard to play during Spring Football Practice

Baskets 3, 4A and 19 have been stolen and were missing. I contacted Clay County Parks and they contacted the Sheriffs Office.

This is a nice large park with plenty of holes ranging in difficulty. The course starts at the parking lot and ends there as well. The baskets are all Innova Discatchers and very nice and new. There are 18 holes on the front that are now well established, with concrete pads. The pads are good sized, not crazy long, but you don't always need that run up anyway. There are lots of benches in well placed areas, not out in the baking sun, but under nice shade trees. There are signs for distance and pin placement on every hole. The signs are all set out of the way so you don't have to worry about hitting them with a stray hand.

Now my personal favorite the back nine. The tees pads were laid out but not poured, yet as of the end of March, but I think they're poured now. The first two holes play a bit the same, long hyzers, but the second takes up uphill and is a long hole around 500ft. Florida is mostly flat, but here the land rises up about 15ft. and the plants and animals begin to change, and it's just realy nice. The third hole takes you into the woods, not too wooded, but a change from the more open front 18. I enjoyed that by the fourth hole the only signs of civilization were the baskets and soon to be tees. You can look in all directions for the next 4 holes and see nothing man made, no telephone poles.towers,roads,ect., not even any trash. The last two holes bring you back to the begining of the back 9, so you can pick back up and finish playing the front 18. There are no restrooms on the back 9, but there are a couple spread out on the front 18, along with pavillions and grills. There is also playground equipment and a pond full of fish and ducks to keep kids and mom's happy.

If you go on a weekend expect to have to play around other park users, baseball, flagfootball, ect. and there are no water holes. If they would have used the pond for discgolf there would have been problems with the fishers and duck feeders, and the pond was there for them before they added the discgolf.

The closest stores are a little drive down the road so load up a cooler with drinks and food to save you some time and keep you on the course more.

Nice change of pace. some open areas and some precision needed on others.
Loved the park area with the Canadian geese around the pond. Course is well groomed and benches all over the place.

After teeing off on first hole, spent about 15 minutes looking for disc in middle of fairway. Found my bright orange disc had slid under the fallen oak leaves that are all over the place on holes 1,2,15 - 18.. Not really complaining, Just making you aware to watch your disc and others in your group.

local people were great, A nice young couple had suggested a good barbecue place for us to eat and it was good with a good price.

This is a quality course set in the peaceful Ronnie Van Zant Memorial Park. Open to moderately wooded holes dominate the course. Holes one, two, and eighteen could be considered heavily wooded holes, comparative speaking. There's an ok mix of hole types out here considering the land that was used. Holes range from just over 200 feet and a time or two almost reach the 400 feet mark. A pronounced dogleg right on twelve and one that is less pronounced on eighteen are the minority as the rest of the holes only sweep left or right slightly and rely on scattered trees to make you shape your lines. I thought hole seven was one of the best holes on the course (it was reconciliation for the worst hole on the course, thirteen). It hinted at an uphill shot for a change as far as this course is concerned with a punch out shot from a pocket in the woods. Seventeen and eighteen were great holes too.

The overall vibe at the course is nice with views of the lake on a lot of the holes. It also seems like there is a good chance to see wildlife. Holes six through twelve added to the personality of the course as you play around the wooded areas at the back of the course. I really enjoyed the walk down the trail between six and seven.

Fresh Innova Discatchers, nice tee signs, (small) concrete tee pads, and posts with bag holders are all here. Benches were scattered around on a lot of the holes. Next tee signs were posted on trees where it counted and kept the flow moving along very well. You'll find ample parking and a informative course map near hole one.

Though the tee signs are very nice, they are inaccurate at times. Some are worse than others but the "map of the hole" doesn't really represent the actual hole at times. The most inaccurate is for hole five. If you went by the sign you would be throwing at 7's basket which is ahead and then fades left, as the sign suggests. In actuality, the basket is perfectly strait ahead, almost blind, and behind some scrubby palm brush. That leads me to point out that the course is packed in at places and with so many baskets visible from the tee, without carefully looking at where you throw you an easily drive to the wrong basket. I soon discovered that the hole numbers on the baskets always face the tee so even if I couldn't clearly read them from the pad, I was pretty sure I was playing the course properly. Other times I noticed where holes play closely to other park activities. Hole one for example plays pretty close to the parking lot. The wooded area where holes one and two reside really only has enough room to support one hole. No big deal if the course isn't crowded but it is worth noting if you're planning a tournament, etc. Three throws towards a volleyball court and a RHBH drive with a skippy driver could create a problem. Lastly, there are some baskets fairly close to tees and could create a dangerous situation if the course is crowded. Finally, the tee pads were smaller than most disc golfers are going to appreciate. These cons are really not as bad as I make them sound. There's nothing terrible out here really. I am just being nit picky.

This really is a fun course with more pros than cons. When I am back in town it'll definitely be a course that I'll play again. Beyond the course, this is a great little park with lots of extra activities so making a day trip with a family is not a bad idea. Unfortunately, I was pressed for time when I visited but if you can, try to give yourself enough time for two rounds. The course plays quickly and it's one of those courses that you know you can shoot better on once you play through and learn the layout. Enjoy!

Challenging yet fun course for all skill levels. Flat terrain with 3 open holes, rest of course lightly to moderately wooded. Benches on most tees. Bag posts on all holes. 9' x 4' concrete pads. Discatcher baskets. Nine new holes have just been completed on the back of the park property. After playing #6 keep walking along the fence about 300' through a one vehicle wide sand road to the first new concrete tee. The new holes are well away from the original course and other park activities so there are no other park users in this area.

Front nine doesn't return to main parking lot. Some tees and baskets are close, have to wait for players to clear area. Some park users are oblivious to the golfers and play/picnic on ten of the fairways and greens.

12-13 birdie and 2-3 ace opportunities, but few players finish under par. Park has tennis, basketball, volleyball, softball, restrooms, fishing pond, picnic shelters and playground.

Challenging with low hanging and tight trees. Pleanty of shade on hot summer days. Close to Dukes BBQ for breakfast or lunch. Not too busy. Most holes are birdie opportunities, all new concerte pads 4' x 8' and new kiosk with overall rules and course map.

Difficult due to trees - must keep shots low to avoid trees. Pads could be longer. Appears to be summer cheerleader camp - too many chicks in bikinis near pons on back of course.

this is the closest park to my house so I play it quite a bit. Its a pretty easy course. could use a redesign on a few holes. i wish there where some elevation changes (it is Florida though).

Good for beginers, all short holes, some open areas to let it fly, some tight spots to test your accuracy.

Golden next tee markers have been placed on trees near last pin played, about 10 ft up.but still maybe hidden, like tees 3 & 6 by palmetto bushes, & tee 7 is in the trail near pin 6, then left at Y.
Benches, bag poles & tee pads have been added.

Popular park on weekends. Most pedestrians are unaware. Picnicking, walking, or playing in fairways.


Holes 8,9,10,11 zig-zag & holes 11,12,13 cris-cross one another making it difficult to tee untill the prior group has completed the set.

This course was installed about March 2009. Improvements are being done on a buget.

Very Shaded, always a good breeze. Don't have to play around people hardly ever, love the disc catcher baskets.

very wooded, not well marked

This is my new favoriate course, it's about 1.3 miles from my house. it's nice and shaded and a good time. I've been playing it all par 3 which seems about right, a few are very challenging (like 18) but mostly because of the trees in between you and the hole.

not very crowded which personally i really like, it's not four palms but it'll do for now.
