A trip of nostalgia and fun. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a great place to enjoy a good game and enjoy some nostalgia.

Since Ed had a part in the design of this course anyone who loves the game needs to play here.

With the new Mach 3 baskets and the new directional arrows this course has stepped up its game. With the arrows I was able to navigate the entire park without the map expect for basket 4 and 10 could use another arrow once you cross under the train tracks.

It is more technical than I expected. Especially in its use of the stream and some elevation with lots of trees.

Great use of elevation. Especially on 14.

Some benches are available to sit on and trash cans seemed plentiful.

While there are no true wide open grip and rip baskets their use of the land here is phenomenal.

One is straight down the fairway with the stream on your right.

Two is a right to left into a pocket and up through the trees. It does not follow the path. If you can get one to "S" than that is the throw to use.

Three is blind to the right into a pocket of trees with a hill behind it.

Four is deceptive if you use the map. The tees are actually where it shows the basket as being located. The long tee is easier. The short is a hard hyzer down a slope along some thick trees. The basket is actually by the number 5 tee down the hill. The map is wrong.

Five is the first one you come to that does not have dual tees. The throw is a down hill hyzer in some tough trees.

Six long is from the parking lot and is a blind hyzer. The short is difficult in its own right because the trees do not give you an easy throw. It is definitely doable but accuracy is a must. The stream is also on your right.

Seven long is very difficult and somewhat dangerous. You are throwing a dogleg left and the break on the trees ahead of you is a walking path that is heavily used. There are signs to warn the path users but beware. The short is actually thrown from the path and is a blind right to left into the trees.

Eight was just fun and accuracy is needed. Just beware of the parking lot.

Nine is a bear if you get off to the left. The stream is there and is lined with trees. If the stream is up you will loose your disc. I lost a good Valkyrie here because of that.

Ten was a bit hard to find but once you do it is a nice toss through some trees.

Eleven goes parallel to the path and needs a very straight throw. There is raised ground on your left that is covered in low but thick growth. The raised mound is for train tracks and are used.

Twelve you throw across the path into some trees.

Thirteen will give no quarter if you do not go straight and is back over the path.

Fourteen was fun. It is through some tough trees and up a steep hill.

Fifteen is from the top of the hill and over some trees. Over the top of the path.

Sixteen is a slow turn to the left with the stream real close.

Seventeen is through some tough trees and heavy brush on each side. I know I lost a Beast in the stuff to the right.

Eighteen is a great finish with a straight throw needed.

This is a beautiful place to play and from a technical standpoint it will give you fits.

There is a practice tee at the parking area.

It is well maintained and fun.

Cons:

The variety of baskets is limited to technical with no true grip and drip.

The walking path can be worrisome but the people who use it seem to be well aware of the course.

The basket signs at each tee are either useless or non-existent. Bring the map but be aware of the issue on 4 and 10 that I mentioned above.

The entrance to the parking area by the first tee is tricky to find. If you use a GPS or map to find the course keep the parking lot on the main road on your left. Make the first left turn then count the fire hydrants. At the third one turn left between 2 houses and you will be where you need to be.

NO bathrooms.

The foliage was very thick on most of the back 9.

When you finish, to get to the parking lot you either have to cross the stream and get up a short but steep hill or walk down to the bridge and cross.

Other Thoughts:

With the addition of the new baskets and the directional arrows this course is fun to play.

If they placed new tee signs and could do something with some of the thicker foliage this would be a terrific course. Probably no more than a 3.5 but a very strong 3.5.

Pros:

Concrete tees
Practice basket
Bridges for crossing the river
Trash cans located through out the park
Grass is very well maintained

Cons:

Some Tees are damaged
Some holes can be really muddy
Walking path through the back of the park can be a hold up drives .

Other Thoughts:

Very fun course , one of ohio's oldest. Definitely the one, that if your in the area, you must stop and play . Will test every shot

2 Concrete tees for each hole (most). Start at hole 1 or 6. Either way the course wraps around very nicely .

Several Ace run holes .. Several crap shoot holes .
Alt tee for 7 is on the bridge i believe.

16 is really cool . Blind shot over the trees from 60 ft , cross the path into the fairway, only to shoot across the creek to a basket nestled in the woods.

1,8,9 ,11,18 Are your best ace runs.
Alot of technical holes in between, with trees in play. Creek really only comes into play 1 10. But errant shots and over throws can get you there quicker.

15 is a bit intimidating . shoot tru a very small window of trees, trees and more trees. up a 40 ft cliff to a basket that is back in the woods

Still here 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 4, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Surviving the test of time the oldest course in Ohio. Still gets a thumbs up for me. Pretty much test your skills.

Cons:

Some shots really close to the stream. Also hole 8 and 9 are hidden across some tracks not a problem if you already know they are there. There is a walking path that goes right by a few shots.

Other Thoughts:

Getting to the park can prove to be tricky. The entrance is nestled between two houses with no clear sign telling you its a park.

Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2007 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good variety of holes. Challenging with the various obstacles (trees and whatnot). Good lay out, easy to follow, even without a scorecard/map. Nice long teepads allow for a good run up.

Cons:

The lack of tee signs is a problem for you have to guess where the pin is sometimes.

Other Thoughts:

One of the best courses in NE-OH. Will challenge any player. Wide variety of holes. Easy to find, yet sometimes it is crowded.

Course that makes you think 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 14, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great course to work on your mental game. Most holes have several challenging features, from water, trees, elevation changes, blind holes and of course the walking path. New baskets are great, as well as some of the new locations. Cool to hear the history of this course. Layout lived up to expectations. Very challenging, got to use a lot of different shots to get out of trouble. Spray painted directional arrows were appreciated. Especially to find hole #10.

Cons:

The lack of good signs, but that could be corrected. Must be careful of the other park users, joggers, dog walkers, etc. All seem to be very aware of the fast flying objects!

Other Thoughts:

Only visits have been with few to no leaves on the trees. I'm sure summer could be brutal.

Pros:

A good variety of holes. Concrete tees.

Cons:

The course has a few signs, emphasis on few. It is very difficult to figure out where you are supposed to go to find then next hole and when you do find the next tee it can be just as difficult to figure out where the pin is.

Pros:

Great use of the trerrain. Fairly tight, but still room to put some power into most drives. "Artistic" basket placements. New baskets in this year, along with a fantastic clean up of brush..

Cons:

Crowded most evenings. Some vandalism.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 4 is a signature hole. This is where I learned to play. New placements have added about 3 shots to my game.

Great course with plenty of fun holes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 22, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Lots of fun, clever holes, throwing uphill and downhill, through the woods and next to streams.

Good mix of challenges and terrains, and great scenery. Course is nice and secluded.

Long, concrete tee pads in good shape.

Cons:

Course was under reconstruction last time I played (2007), so some of the holes were moved and it wasn't clear how to follow the course. Might be better by now.

Some of the tee signs are badly vandalized.

The informal trail to the back nine is almost impossible to find -- head past the basket and follow the trail along the creek.

Course entrance can be tricky to find your first time out.

Other Thoughts:

The course is usually not very busy. Some areas are multi-use in the park, but nothing where your throws are around other park-goers.

There's a porta-potty near the basket for hole #9, no water fountains, no concessions stands.

Lately (Summer 2008) the local disc golfers have been renovating the course; new baskets are being added. Holes have been moved as well.

Last time I was there the tee signs were not being replaced; some of those have been badly vandalized.

Surprised to see such mediocre ratings, me and my disc golf buddies really like this course and the extra drive to Medina is always worth it to us.

Recently moved holes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 15, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

The front 9 are definately worth your time. Interesting elevation changes and fun little doglegs. I tried a lot of shorts I would not have tried other wise. Glad I played the front.

Cons:

We lost the trail on the back 9. It was very frustrating to not be able to finish our round.
Some veteran players of this course told us that they recently moved the baskets on a number of holes. This could have added to our confusion by removing clues to where the baskets were.

Other Thoughts:

Rough course with tight throws and a lot of trees. Front 9 was well worth my time.

** Reports say that holes 1-9 were layed out by Steady Eddie himself. A little piece of history. **

Pros:

Nice course winding through a public park. You have holes with elevation, semi open and semi-wooded holes. Good use of baskets near stream. Not to tough but can come into play. With the shorter tee pads you have plenty of birdie opportunities (if you game is going ok), longer tee pads you have to have a good arm for birdies. GREAT use of land available. They used every inch imaginable. I can see shooting a bad score and a good score in the same day. Nice course for a tournament.
