Pros:

Sangaree Park is an interesting nine-hole layout. There are some solid qualities. But, does that outweigh the glaring issues?
- They fit 9 holes in 4 acres. This includes four holes longer than 300 feet. While that is impressive, that also means you're bound to run into spacing issues. More on those below.
- If you overlook the hole overlapping issue, especially if you're playing when the course isn't crowded, there is a nice flow to the course. A very simply five out and four in layout.
- Course favors LHBH & RHFH throwers. Holes have a general theme to them. If you go too far left, you're bringing the creek in play on holes #1 - 5 or fenced-in backyards on #6 - 9.
- My two favorite holes both played a small creek bed - #4 & 7. #7 is easily the best, most fun, and most risk/reward factored hole on the course. At 278 feet, and with the creek bed right in front of the basket, players are left with the risk/reward factor of making a run at the basket, and possibly going in the creek (OB, I hope), or playing safe by throwing past the basket or just short of the creek.
- #4 also plays over the creek. But, with the creek in the first 1/3 of the layout, it's a non-factor.
- #3 plays alongside the creek the entire length of the fairway. At 351 feet, there are trees in play on the right side directly off the tee, further putting the creek in play. Once you clear the trees, it's wide open the remainder of the way. But, for limited trees, they succeed in creating challenge.

Cons:

A lot of holes in a small space. When you have holes averaging 293 feet long, expect potential issues.
- The fairway isn't more than 200 feet wide. At every point of the course you have, at minimum, two holes overlapping, usually in opposite directions.
- This won't be a fun, relaxing round if the course is even semi-crowded. If you're putting on #2, watch out for discs approaching the opposite direction on #8. Also, make sure you don't have someone shanking a shot right on #3. If you're putting on #7, you might have people teeing off on #8 and #4 right next to you.
- Don't go left on holes #6 - 9. If you do, you will end up in someone's backyard. There are a ton of signs warning disc golfers not to jump fences plus some individual homeowners have additional 'No Trespassing' signs. Several yards had signs saying they would place lost discs outside their fence. It goes without saying, if you want a course pulled, trying jumping fences without the homeowner's permission.
- Don't go left on holes #1 - 5. You might have to retrieve a disc out of a shallow creek bed, the mud around it, the field on the other side of the creek, or really thick growth on #4 & 5.
- And, if you go right on any holes, you're in another fairway. So, to recap. Going left is REALLY bad. Going right is somewhat bad (or REALLY bad if you hit someone). So, throw straight.

Other Thoughts:

The issues at Sangaree cannot be ignored. When you have so many holes (in fractional terms, it's 4/9s) that offer opportunities for discs to land in backyards, there's going to be an issue sooner than later.
- If I had to bet, I sadly see this course going the way of Eagle Landing in Hanahan. Something will happen with a disc, or disc golfer, going in a backyard and that will be enough for the course to be pulled, or at least redesigned.
- That said, if you take the fence and hole overlapping issues out of the equation. If you just look at each hole individually, I think it's a fun layout. If the obstacle on the left side was just an OB marker, it'd allow players to be more aggressive off the tee.
- I like having tee shots on #2 & 3 that require you to hug the creek line. I'd also like to see one of these hole's tee moved to the left side of the creek just to give a different look. There's a small bridge across the creek that would make it an easy walk.
- I'd also have liked to see #8's basket on top of the small mound rather than directly next to it. You're in the low country. There's zero elevation. So, when there's an opportunity to use even a small amount of elevation and variance, do it.
- Course has to be knocked down for the major issues on holes #6, 8 & 9. Who knows? Maybe the neighbors are friendly if you walk around the corner, they'll happily retrieve your disc. I suspect this is a course one needs to play while they can. At least in this iteration.
