Pros:

Super beginner friendly
Layout is great for kids
Nice tee signs
Nice concrete tee pads
Permanent baskets
You could play this in only 20 minutes
Fun for ace runs

Cons:

Not the best part of town
Some of the baskets have been damaged
Mostly open fairways with just a few trees

Other Thoughts:

Let me preface this review by saying this... I have a weak arm and thoroughly enjoy playing short little courses. Yea, I said it. I am one of those players who loves traveling to different courses and playing as many courses as possible. From time to time this has me stumbling upon extremely short courses at schools. That is exactly what this course is. Located at Sarah Moore Greene Elementary School in Knoxville Tennessee, this course feels as though it was designed with kids and beginners in mind. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. In fact, I prefer for towns with several disc golf courses to have this type of entry level course for players to learn the game on. I have played disc golf for over 12 years and I still enjoy courses like this because I know that it raises awareness of disc golf for the children growing up in the community. That is huge to me. As for the play of the course itself, I believe the longest hole is about 230'. This hole is uphill for the majority of the "fairway" so it plays a bit longer than that but still well short of 300'. I'm not sure who did the design work but it seemed like they knew a decent amount about disc golf because even in this short 9 holes there is a pretty good mix of uphill/downhill holes. The majority of the holes feel pretty manageable for both rightys and leftys with no major hooks in play aside from soft turns/fades. There are nice concrete tees, informative tee signs, and permanent baskets which is more than I can say for most short 9 hole school courses. Some of these baskets are not in the best of shape (one looks like it was hit by a mower) but this is something that could potentially be fixed in the future. I shot 2 rounds here while filming the course. I managed to shoot -6 with an ace on one round and -8 on the other round so that will tell you how short of a course this is. Course length aside, the layout is pretty fun for what it is. It is a great place to learn the sport of disc golf without having a chance of losing a disc. I'm not going to recommend that you drive out of your way to play this course but if you are ever in town and want to play a quick 9 hole round, stop in here. It is pretty close to Morningside Park DGC geographically and will only take you about 20 minutes to play if you can keep yourself from trying to ace run every single hole. Go get a round in here and show the community that us disc golfers appreciate even the smaller courses that help grow the sport in the area! Moore Is Less 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 27, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.044 Rating) A beginner friendly niner too short and easy for even your typical recreational player.
- FAMILY FRIENDLY - You can bring the kids to this one. Eight of the nine holes are less than 200 feet long. Losing a disc here means it was likely left by accident. I shot 7 down and came away dissatisfied.
- BASICS AMENITIES - Prodigy baskets mostly in good condition. Basket (4) was leaning a bit. As for the tee signs, adequate for a shorty layout such as this one. The signs have accurate distances, a hole number and info on the perils of smoking. Tees are concrete, but small.
- QUICK PLAY - I bagged it solo in 13 minutes.

Cons:

A severe lack of complexity.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - This one was likely designed and built for use of the adjacent school, so I get why there's not an amped up challenge here. I started 5 down thru 5 holes, but got lazy and left one forty feet short on the next hole. Even par would likely equate to a sub 800 rated round.
- HOLE VARIETY - To any veteran player of the game, the gameplay here will be bland. Every hole could be played with a putter. I personally regret pulling out the entire bag and slogging it around for the few minutes I was here.
- SPACING - The course is also jammed into a small area. Baskets for other holes are constantly seen. Junior players will no doubt throw them into other fairways.
- NATURAL BEAUTY & MAINTENANCE - The fairway grass was above my ankles on my play. Some branches were on the ground and I saw a little bit of trash too. Overall, the beauty in this small park was well below average. Easily in my bottom quartile for this category.

Other Thoughts:

This is the second junior course I've played in Knoxville, with the other being Inskip. This junior course, imo, is far inferior to Inskip. Sarah Moore has smaller tees, less appealing tee signs, less interesting terrain and less complexity. The only thing of substance that I found better at Sarah Moore over Inskip was the baskets. Overall, it's passable for Beginners, school kids and families. Definitely not worth traveling to, unless you are a half mile away or a course bagger.

Nice New Intro Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 19, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

A short 9 hole course located on the grounds of the Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Academy . When you pull into the lot to park ( please don't try to play when school is in session and during school hours ) , you will see a tee pad immediately to your left . That would be the tee pad to hole #8 . I will explain this later . Anyway , to get to the first tee pad , follow the cement walkway around the left of the school past the fenced in play area to the tee box to your left . You won't miss it . No map or kiosk exists for this course , but it's okay , because the course is so tight and short ( 1400' ) that all 9 holes fit in the back and to the side of the school . The tee pads are recently poured cement that are still wood lined , but thin and short . Maybe enough room for the kids that go to the school , and enough for me to throw stationary because I think the longest hole was marked at 226' , which is 50' longer than the next longest hole . The signage is good and descriptive , with hole number, picture and distance . and the baskets are brand new green podigy . They spared no expense putting in great equipment for this course . The course designer wasn't left with much to work with , given the area to work within . Still , the baskets were smartly placed behind trees , or hyzering over a windowless old greenhouse , like on #9 . I am treating it like it is presented , a fun little intro course , designed for the kids at the school or playing after dinner with the family , or newbies hoping to score their first ace . When I played , there was no one around . The course plays fast . You can finish a round by yourself in 15-20 minutes . If I lived in the neighborhood and didn't feel like driving the 2 miles to Morningside , I would come up here and work on my approach and putting game . I can see where excited youngsters would take a disc and throw with their classmates or some of their neighborhood friends just to see who can get closest to the pin . A unique and great feature on this course : a wooden hutch that looks like an oversized birdhouse sits next to #1's tee . Encased in glass sits a bunch of used discs for kids that don't have a disc of their own to borrow for a round . WOW . Nice touch .

Cons:

Being the first reviewer and taking it for what it is , a brand new course for the neighborhood and the elementary school kids , I don't have much in the way of cons . Really the only thing I have is that the tee pads and fairways are so stacked up against each other , that newbies and excited kids are liable to clobber each other with their drives if the course has more than a few active pads at a time . Especially if wind is involved .

Other Thoughts:

I have to commend Sarah Moore Greene School for putting in this course . Short as it is , it has a clear objective . To give the kids some outdoor interests and exercise that remove them from their cell phones and computers , The mere excitement of these kids trying to outdo each other while going from hole to hole will make it worth installing this course . .Disc golf is on the rise and this school in now a player . More seasoned players can just roll down the road to Morningside which is 5 minutes away . If I had kids and lived here , I would bring them here a lot . Thank You Sarah Moore Green School for promoting disc golf in the area .
