Not So Scenic 9 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 30, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lots of length for a 9 hole

Decent concrete tee pads

Nice tee signs

Most holes play on mowed bluegrass

Course loops back to starting area

Cons:

Flat and mostly open

Most trees in play are young and skinny

One tee shot where you are throwing right over the top of another holes basket

Lots of other park structures and amenities are in play

Some apparent vandalism, one basket had its cage sitting on the ground and another had a big dent in the cage

Not very beginner friendly due to the length

Other Thoughts:

The designer wanted to use the whole park and succeeded, not necessarily a good thing

Hole 7 is now 771' according to the tee sign, probably the longest hole on a 9 hole course that I have come across, plays as a 200' layup off the tee then sharp right 500+ feet along the side of two ball fields

Better than most Eagle Scout courses 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 5, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

This fairly long park course is set up in Potlach's Scenic 6 Historical park. The town's war memorial is here as well as a steam engine and a nicely laid out garden.
The course itself was done as an Eagle Scout project and makes pretty good use of the space available as long as course and park aren't busy(more later).
Usually when I see "park course" I think pitch and putt but that definitely isn't the case here. The only truly short hole is 3, which is a hard blind dogleg around the locomotive. Even though it's fairly open I was pleased to be getting par on most of the holes, usually with a longer approach and/or putt.
The layout is fairly natural and flows well once you get going. The baskets have numbers on top facing the previous one which makes it easier considering lack of signs.

Cons:

The biggest con is lack of signs. No tee signs or course map make starting a little hard but went ok once I got going.
There were a couple boxes that were meant to be tees, but are filled to the top with rough gravel and very overgrown with weeds. They are also too short for the length of the holes here. I just teed off in grass near previous basket.
Other potential con is that 6-8 play around ball fields. They aren't used alot but will probably have to skip those holes if games are underway.

Other Thoughts:

This is a very pretty small town, worth looking around when there. It is also refreshing to have a challenging park course.
I talked to the city clerk and maintenance man after my round. Apparently tee signs were made and they have seen courses with proper tees and course maps. They are going to look into finishing course, should rate a 3 or 3.5 when done. I look forward to trying it again in a year or so, see how it looks.
