Too many cons 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 18, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has some things going for it, such as:
-Easy to spot the course from the parking lot (although the first hole is harder to find)
-Easy to navigate without a map
-Nice signs
-New baskets that catch well
-Easy parking
-Super close to the interstate
-At a wonderful park with many fantastic amenities for family fun
-A couple of holes that are fun without high risk of something going wrong.

Cons:

Although I am grateful that this course means more baskets in the ground, I'm sorry to say that they do not belong in this park. Holes 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 all pose safety threats as they play too close to fields, playgrounds, and people's private property. I am a skilled, careful player who can throw 320 feet. There were a few times when I thought my drives might go over the fence and into people's yards, potentially hurting someone. Although this course is very easy and open, I think it is a bad course for beginners because there is too great a risk that they will hurt or anger someone. In time, I am confident that something will go wrong (someone will get hurt, neighbors will be angered by people climbing into their yards to get their discs) and this course will be pulled. I fear that this course will do more to damage the reputation of disc golf than build it.

Other Thoughts:

I love the idea of this course and appreciate the hard work put in by whoever built it. But I'm afraid it's going to have a sad ending unless it is redesigned. I know the park is being renovated. Perhaps the course can be altered to take advantage of the new parts of the park.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 7, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Plenty of parking - Quick practice round - clean bathrooms and drinking fountains - well manicured grounds - easy to follow from baskets 2-9 - new baskets - all tee "boxes" are marked with a post with hole info - course and score cards available on first tee

Cons:

a lot of activities going on including a full playground all along # 4 fairway an errant shot right ends up in the swings - 2 full soccer fields come into play on 8 and 9 - 6 + 7 play well enough away - course and score cards should be available on second tee 1st tee is hard to find it

Other Thoughts:

1st tee is hard to find it is on the left of parking lot across the foot bridge - if your are out for a full afternoon and want to include a quick round this is an OK place - sits about half way between the Basketball HOF and 6ix Flags - plenty of places to eat around the area - be mindfull of the street signs if you are coming from rout 57 two signs are marked with park info telling you, "you can't get there from here"

school street disc golf course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 4, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice baskets, good for quick game short game, hard to lose disks, has bathrooms, has restraunts and bars near by, close to highway. They are really upgrading many other parts of this park maybe another nine holes are to come.

Cons:

many holes short, many holes could interfere with other activities at park, flat. Hole 1 weird location from away from main course most susceptible to other users interference.

Other Thoughts:

Great small course hope they expand it. Would not bother unless you were local. Also after school during sports practices a bad time to play summer great.

How Many Flags Would You Give It? 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 4, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Gleaming new DisCatcher Pro Baskets
-Just down the street from Six Flags and The Big E
-Well manicured fairways
-Nice park with lots of activities for kids, clean restrooms, water fountain

Cons:

-Flat, Short, and Wide Open... Pitch and Putt to experienced playersm
-Other Park activity can create some safety concerns: Playground and Swings not too far off the 4th fairway. Soccer, bocce, and shuffleboard players might occasionally be close to some holes and make them unplayable.
-Hole 5, 6, & 7 play along a fence line with neighbor's backyards reachable on errant throws, though the tee locations try to angle the flight path away from the fence.
-Hole 8 is peculiar: a dogleg over somebody's backyard.
First tee not obvious from parking lot (it's across the wetlands) and ninth basket leaves a bit of a walk back to the parking lot, even further back to the 1st tee if you want to play another round.

Other Thoughts:

Can be a fun introduction to disc golf for beginners or putting practice on the way home from a day at Six Flags for experienced players. Some safety concerns that I hope can be addressed with landscaping, and I can foresee some angry abutting neighbors if players don't respect their property. Not sure how to fix that 8th hole though. Hope the folks that live there are fans of disc golf.
