An idyllic municipal course. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 23, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Berwyn Proksa Park is a municipal course that is well planned but a little tight. An abundance of tunnel shots are on this course. Veterans will use midranges and putters. Tees are easy to find and concrete tees will in place soon. Baskets are Mach III. Despite the shortness of the course, low hanging branches add some difficulty. This nine basket course twists and winds through a variety of new and old growth trees with a few bends with mild difficulty. There are some creative shots such as three, five, seven and eight. Baskets two and six have ace potential. Drive one needs a strong low throw for a three. The park is family friendly and amenities are abundant.

Cons:

The obvious con is that this popular park will be crowded with pedestrians. This course is best played when throngs are thin. People are used to meandering though the light forest and are unaware of flying discs. Some drives have benches in the middle such as five and nine. Disc golfers are going to have to yield and reinvent fairways during busy times. A pleasant Sunday afternoon might be the worst time to play this course.

Lastly, this course might be a bore for those looking for lengthy drives or intimidating shots. This course is excellent for novices.

Other Thoughts:

Recent municipal courses have ranged from excellent to why bother. Berwyn has something that is good but can be frustrating by pedestrians. Basket four is next to a children's play area and little tykes will run out onto the course or play on the bridge adjacent to the fairway. Discretion is a must when throwing. Yield to the pedestrians because the park was there long before the course. Hopefully the locals will respect the course.
