Worth it 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 31, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

First of all if you live in Plano/Allen/Mckinney/Richardson/Addison then this course should be on your radar.

This course has a good variety of holes. Fairly challenging. Mostly maintained, considering how public the area is.

If you are a competitive player, there are flip double tournies on sundays that are open to the public.

Great course to practice on once you've gotten the hang of the layout.

Cons:

On that last note, the course used to be a 9-hole and they dropped a back 9 on top of it so it can be confusing, often tees or baskets are shared. This is usually not too much of a problem, but I have had to wait on holes enough times to tell you to give yourself an extra 15-30 minutes to get through a round. Sometimes pedestrians can get in the way as well; you play through a walking trail, football field, and field where kids play soccer.

You are in the middle of a neighborhood, so this is a toss up between good and bad. For me it is conveniently 1/2 mile from my house so I can literally roll out of bed and play at least a couple holes. Fod others who are not so close this does play into more of a con as (though not often) I have seen a few straw drives almost hit some moving cars you play alongside of.

Other Thoughts:

If you want a quick easy to find staple/practice course this is your place. You'll have fun, theres a good mix of distance and doglegs and short aceables.

On a sidenote, with the strange layout, many people have resorted to playing out of order or sometime two holes at once to avoid doubling back on much of the course. If you've got enough discs in your bag you can get through 18 in about 40 minutes. I don't do this much as I like to track my statistics but this can be enticing to some and frustrating to others.

Needs a new layout 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Grassy fairways
- Reasonably challenging

Cons:

- Too much hole overlap, basically two nine hole courses overlayed
- Two holes have the same tee AND basket (throw to the right of the tree once, then to the left of it)... kind of lame
- No concrete tee pads

Other Thoughts:

- They really ought to scrap the layout and start over with a single 18-hole course that flows in a single loop, not two overlapping loops

Reviewed: Played on:May 19, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is open and has a couple of pretty good holes. Several of the holes require some pretty good lines and skill. The baskets are solid and all intact. Did not notice trash everywhere.

Cons:

There is little to nothing by way of signage on this course. If you don't know the course you will be confused. The entire course is back and forth on top of itself all 18 holes. It seems very dangerous. Several times someone inadvertently threw on me or me on them. Also a couple of the holes use the same tee (4/13, 8/17 etc...) I would assume that this was a space saver when designing, but it seems like it would be better off having those as alternate pin positions. The tees are dirt, while this in itself is not necessarily a con, they are in bad condition. Some of them are basically holes in the ground waiting to trip someone and sprain an ankle.

Other Thoughts:

The park is great for casual rounds when you have plenty of time, to wait on others to clear for your shot. I wouldn't suggest going to be competitive or if you're in a hurry.

Fun, but course is too jumbled together 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 9, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is interesting, because it gets a lot of traffic, has some pretty awesome holes with decent lengths, and has practice baskets to get some putting in. Unfortunately, those are the only things I enjoyed on this course.

Cons:

Tee Pads- several holes tee of from the same tee boxes. This is very problematic for me, and found myself waiting a couple of times to tee from the box to go to a different hole.

Baskets too close to one another- there are several times when I came across a basket just to see another 20 feet from it. Seems like a poor design.

Course directly in middle of residental neighborhood- This normally wouldnt be a problem, but one tee box is directly beside a fence, and others are so close to homes I was convinced I was going to misthrow and nail someone who was mowing their lawn. This is dramatic, of course, but it should give you an idea of how close everything is.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, it is a great course if you are just getting started, but if you have any length on your throws, or are used to really great courses, then this is going to be a step down for you.

Disappointing Downgrade 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 13, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Before the extra 9 holes were added, this was a moderately adequate course that was a short drive. The scenery was good, and there was plenty of room for expansion.

Cons:

The "extra" 9 holes that have been added constitute a major safety hazard. Some of the tees are within the range of other tees using the same basket. Even with the mandos that are listed, a bad throw will eventually cause someone to have a serious injury. The signage is inadequate, and the course map is not clear or easy to understand.

Other Thoughts:

Having helped to design a course myself, I have to wonder why it was necessary to place the holes so close together. If the city would not allow expansion of the course to a reasonable size in that park, then perhaps a course should not be placed in that city...

One if the original 9 Holers 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 30, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is a great course for beginners. It has some great holes like #4 and #6 (which require a good shot and some luck). The course is always well maintained. the creek really does not come into play as much as we would like, but you will see the creek should you have an irratic throw once in a while.

Cons:

This course is very confusing if you are a visitor. They layout is a bit "funky". We have foud that if you plan it right, you can play the holes out of order you can finish it quicker, or if you play two holes at a time, it is easier. (you will see what I say if you play this course).

Other Thoughts:

This is my home course, and typically people like there course better, but I'm not one of those. I go here often and play this course often, but I would play the two courses up the street in Mckinney or the other direction in Carrollton if I had the time. Its not as bad as most people giving reviews. You will see some of the best disc golfers in DFW at this course, so it cant be that bad.

Probably doesn't have to be an 18 hole... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice and open, i.e. hopefully not many lost discs. Good baskets. Decent tee boxes. Great distances.

Cons:

Not a lot of shade, which is expected from the "nice and open" comment from above. Can be confusing if you don't take a pic of the course guide or have a friend along to tell you where you're going. Shared baskets and tees get annoying. A huge walk from 9 to 10, I usually cut my round short and call it a day here.

Other Thoughts:

This really isn't a bad course, I just don't have much good to say about it. It's really nice if you live in east Plano and don't want to drive very far though. The creek can get a bit smelly some days, but it's easily ignorable. Be careful where you park, and driving on the first hole, cause your car can come into play with an errant drive.

One thing I've noticed about this course is it's either a love it or hate it course, I know people who absolutely swear by it and some who only use it as a last resort. I'd say I fall more in the latter category, but being fair I can't say it really deserves a "hate it rating." I would recommend you try it out and try to form your own opinion on it, just remember to bring a map or a guide.

It's a two-fer! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice teepads and baskets
-Great protected pins on many holes
-Some variety in distance
-Uses the terrain well, manages to create some interesting holes from a rather vanilla piece of land
-Several long open holes to bomb some big drives

Cons:

-Mostly flat, often open
-Overlapping double-loop design is confusing and prone to creating back ups and crossing groups
-Creek is sort of an abyss, very treacherous to try and retrieve a disc
-A couple holes share a tee pad and/or basket

Other Thoughts:

I played with a friendly group of locals that showed us the local route. A little less walking between holes and a better flow.

I thought it was a pretty fun round but it is a bit repetitive and unvaried. The pin placements are the best part of the course. I'm not sure that the size of this park warranted 18 holes but I guess it works.

Two's a Crowd Here 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 23, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Some challenging/fun holes, not a great deal of walking needed, good mix of challenging and easy holes for groups of varying experience

Cons:

I had two problems with this course: 1) sharing of tee boxes/baskets - It seems like there's more room in the park to have either added one or two holes, or at least to not have needed to recycle the same areas for multiple holes. This is only a major issue on one teebox/basket that becomes two different holes based on a different mando. 2) The teeboxes are very poor, especially after rain - Since they're not concrete, some wear and imperfection is expected, but I found most of them were unacceptable. I tried to X-step on my drive on a few of the holes, but the teebox was a small valley that my feet couldn't even fit between. On other holes, you have to go uphill as you're attempting to drive.

Other Thoughts:

With a little more originality on some of the repeat teeboxes/baskets and some work on the teeboxes, this would definitely be a decent little course. As is, I wouldn't play it unless you're within close driving distance.

Squeeze ‘em all in there 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 29, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has some well placed and sometimes protected pins. These protected pins are the holes that make this course fun. The baskets are in good shape. The course uses the terrain around it, like the bit of forest, a drop off to a small creek and some sparse tree areas. There is a decent amount of hole-length variation. There were a few trashcans around.

Cons:

The park seemed clean for the most part until you look down in creek area. There was trash everywhere down there. The dirt tee pads are functional if they are not wet. The main sign is old and not very helpful. Except if you lose a disc down in to the steep creek, this course is very flat. The tee sign were there, but were not of much use except for the hole number. The layout is not too difficult to follow, but the sharing of tees and baskets and mandos makes you really want to bring a map. The sharing of Tees, is not really negative for me, but the sharing of baskets is not my idea of a good course. I don't mind mandos at all, but if they are not marked clearly, they are useless.

Other Thoughts:

The fun factor for this course was good with the holes that were in the tree areas but the open holes were just not very exciting. If this course is close to you, then you have a decent place to play. I would not recommend a road trip just play here. It does make a good neighbor hood course though.

Two courses on top of each other 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Decent double chain baskets. Where this course excels is in interesting and challenging pin placements as well as some challenging tee shots, though not necessarily on the same holes. You can up the challenge factor of the course by playing OB on or beyond the concrete paths. The course is primarily located in a single-use portion of the park so there should be little interference from non-disc golfers. There were trash cans available to help limit litter. I liked hole #4 when playing the sidewalk as OB, the basket is nestled back in some heavily protected trees and it a really tough hole to '2'.

Cons:

Posted course map is significantly outdated. That doesn't help what's an already difficult course to navigate. Several (many?) of the holes play too close together. That's an artifact of adding nine holes essentially on top of, instead of around, a park/course that was originally designed for nine holes. The transition from #9 to #10 is a long walk. The creek that weaves through has some steep banks that make lost disc retrieval very unattractive. Only minor elevation changes. Dirt tees are substandard for area courses. Tee signs have no distances. The parking lot is pretty small.

Other Thoughts:

Several holes will benefit from playing in two or more people where one can act as a spotter for the others. Most of the long holes are pretty open. There's a couple shared tee boxes and one shared basket, not a big deal for trying to stretch out into a full 18-holes. One reviewer mentioned seven or eight Mandos, I don't recall seeing that many but it would up the challenge factor if there were.

On a busy day this course would be a disaster of people throwing all over each other, but I get the impression it just isn't that busy. So for a little neighborhood course it's not a bad place to play, but not one worth going significantly out of your way to play.

Overall a good Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 30, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course is well maintained, the grass is mowed, tee's are well marked etc...

Cons:

The Map is out dated but it is fairly easy to find your way around, there is a long walk from the basket at hole 9 to the tee for 10. the course overlaps itself with holes 10 through 18 crossing back through the front 9, but it was done well so that this is not too much of a problem

Other Thoughts:

Fun course to play, not too difficult, a good opportunity for an ace on 2, there is a creek that runs along the course but it is not really an obstacle

Cons:

Stupid!! Waste of 9 baskets. Holes sit next to each other and people throwing all over the place. There are I think 7 or maybe 8 mandos which is way too many for my taste. The mixing and matching of holes and baskets make it very confusing and stupid for a serious golfer. This alos got kind of dangerous as we were almost hit three times in one round by people on other holes.

Home course bias 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 9, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It uses the creek and trees well to add challenge to some shots. A few striaght away wide open holes are good to practices driving and for the newer player tweaking thier game. Trees located around some baskets and tees adds some challenge. Well taken care of by city. Shade is available in spots.

Cons:

Tee boxes are dirt and well worn (read: ruts) Can be easy to get lost the first few times through due to the over laping nature of the course. Fields can be hot and wind swept.

Other Thoughts:

Keep in mind I have only been throwing for a few months now and this course is only minutes from my house. I have a bit of a bias and a small arm so all in all I find this a good place to work on my game. A few friends of mine don't mind playing it, but it is not a fan favorite.

Quick and dirty 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 1, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course allows you practice many different shots with out totally jacking your score. For the most part it is a par three all the way through. Most of the holes can be served with RHBD (Right Hand Back Hand) because they have no obstacles. Since it is a smaller course and open, you can practice your flick drive, or test your discs to really see what they do. A few holes play through trees or dog leg, which also plays to hizer and anhyzer shots. Over all this is a fun course to play beginner, and <par course if you are amateur, and show off course if you are pro!

Cons:

Trashy, I guess like people have never heard pack it in pack it out. Its what you get for a near city park. Although come to my neck of the woods, and people care how the city park looks, it keeps it open. Pick UP YOUR TRASH, I did, and I'm not Texan.
The course is shorter some of the double tees aren't marked, and the course map at the start doesn't show the where the extra 9 holes play from. Dirt tee pads, although dry when I played, bring mud shoes on wet days. Plenty of dirt clumps from the wet day before. Wind can be an issue on a few holes.

Other Thoughts:

It is actually 18 with a few double baskets/tees! Not difficult to find. I went on a monday, after a holiday in the AM, Not one other person on the course. The gully while looks like it could eat discs, it won't.

Pros:

Course can be played in under an hour with the overlapping tees/pins. Designer did a pretty good job with what little landscape/terrain the park has to offer. Great beginner course. Usually not too crowded.

Cons:

Two holes share same tee box and basket. Why every hole has a different pin but this one I don't know. There's plenty of park space by this one pin to add one more hole. Majority of holes are wide open with really only one path to birdie hole.

Other Thoughts:

Not a destination course. Play it only if your in the area.

My First Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 9, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course uses the ladscape very well. Each Tee hole is marked clearly. About half of the course is shaded. The course wraps about twice allowing you to take a break at you vehicle if needed after the first nine. There are variety of holes on this course. The first hole starts off with a slightly uphill shot through a group of trees about 20 feet from the tee. Some of the holes are just open fairways with a basket on the other end. Probably the most difficult hole on the course 6, starts out witha a drive through the trees with the creek on the left. Then finishes up with more trees closely grouped together with the basket placed at where there is no other choice but to play through them. If I can finish this hole with out hitting a tree I consider that a great hole.
8 and 17 and the same tee and the same basket but 8 plays to the right of the large tree and 17 plays left of the large tree. Probably the best hole on this course is 5. It starts out with a blind shot off the tee. A nice RHBH hyzer around the group of trees to your left will leave you great for your upshot. The fairway slops down and the rises again will the basket sitting under a group of tall trees waiting to deflect you approach.

Cons:

The nieghbor hood isn't the greatest. some trash around the course. Though the tee's and holes are marked with numbers very clearly. There are no signs telling length of hole, par, or where the basket is.

Other Thoughts:

I probably factor in a little favoritism because this was my first but I really like this course. It is not to difficult but not to easy either. After you play it through once it's easy to come back later and make your way through with little to know problems. If you don't have time to play the full 18 you can play the first nine end up back at your car a leave. Or if you feel like going out and playing just the back nine you can do the same. The course flows very well. Overall and very fun great course

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 31, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

There are some long open holes that really test your arm.

There are some interesting mandatories that add some technical shots to this pretty open course. Two holes share the same tee pad and basket but have different mandatories around a tree in the middle.

There is a very deep canyon like creek hazard to the left of a few holes but it's actually pretty easy to avoid.

Cons:

To convert this course to 18 holes they just overlayed the new 9 holes over the same land as the original 9 holes which makes it confusing and a little boring because it feels like your playing a 9 hole course twice.

There is not enough shade.

Other Thoughts:

They should have taken the money they wasted on 9 new baskets and used it to improve the original 9 like clean up the creek, plant some shade trees, put in concrete pads and good signs.
