Pros:
Beginner level course set on church property in the heart of a college town. Enough trees to bring challenge to beginners. Ace runs for intermediate/advance players.
Signs - Billboard at the start of course with rules and course map. Signs at each hole have a map, distance, par, as well as details on what counts as OB on each hole.
Baskets - 9 grippy baskets that were definitely well seasoned.
Tees - One concrete tee per hole that were easy to spot. Perfect size for the course.
Navigation - Course is a double loop. Easy to spot the next hole from the basket (see cons). After hole 2, cross the church drive. After hole 5, cross the same drive.
Variety - Most holes are mostly open and on the shorter side Holes 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, and 10 that would be enough to train new players.
Safety - The holes all have their own distinct area. No overlapping holes. Holes do not border each other.
Par - The par at this course is the friendliest par I've ever seen. Par 4s that can be easily aced.
Benches, picnic tables, and trash cans near holes 1, 2, and basket for 9.
Easy to get to. Several other courses nearby.
Several food and drink options nearby either fast food or grocery stores (5-10 minute drive).
Cons:
This isn't a con, but this course will bring no challenge to intermediate / advance level players. I mentioned most holes are mostly open in the 190 - 250 foot range. Course would be more for fine tuning your game.
Only 1 tee per hole. A second tee would add to the replay value on the course to provide alternate approaches.
Next hole signs needed after holes 2 and 5.
Other Thoughts:
This was the first course I've played since a shoulder injury a few years ago. It really helped me to get my confidence back. I was the only one on site and was able to throw multiple drives on each hole.
I really appreciate that the designer did not try to squeeze in more holes into the property. Several church courses can tend to do that. Being able to spread out without fear of getting hit is perfect for new players.
The only thing to make this hole better is listed in cons - added tees, next hole signs, and another trash can or 2.
I would recommend this course for beginners in the area or beginners passing through. If you need more of a challenge, Crestmont is a short drive away.
