Nice, Casual Round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 24, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice tees, signage, and holes. In the middle of a park, so it is well maintained. Holes are placed in creative places in relation to the natural surroundings. Each hole is different and requires a variety of shots.

Front 9 and Back 9 are like playing 2 different courses: front is wooded with zero undergrowth and the back is fairly open with sparse trees.

Cons:

Really there are not many. A couple holes are confusing as to where to walk to the next tee (4 to 5, 12 to 13). The front 9 are a little short. If you are looking for an intense, skill-shot course, this is not the one you want. Every hole has a possibility of drive-putting it. Watch out for the kids at the playground on #5 - not a huge deal though.

Other Thoughts:

This is a fun course. But it is not for advanced players looking for a challenge. It is very good for honing skills and using different shots for other players. I have played it several times, but I have not deuced every hole . . . yet.

It's tough for me to rate it higher than 3.5 because of it's ease of play even though the quality of the course drives the score higher.

Mature Growth Only 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 22, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

There is a decent variety of holes including left turning/right turning, long/short, wooded/open. Nice big concrete tee pads and nice baskets. A great course for beginnners with no water obstacles.

Cons:

Course can be fairly easy for the advanced player. Tee signs are a bit dated, however, they still provide accurate distances. The back 9 holes are a almost too open. Some tee boxes are difficult to find for the first timer.

Other Thoughts:

This course almost plays as two different 9 hole courses...the front nine play through thin mature growth while the back 9 holes play through an open area with some mature growth. In addition, the front 9 holes play shorter than the back 9 holes.

For the front 9 holes, you will want to have an accurate drive to score well. Most holes are deuceable with a drive that doesn't get tangled up in the trees. The first 9 holes also take advantage of the rolling terrain that the park offers.

On the back 9 holes (your arm should be loose), you will need long accurate drives to score well. But even with a bad drive, a 3 is still very makeable with the lack of obstacles. The road plays O.B. and comes into play on a few holes which can add a few strokes to your score.

This course is a great course for casual play and for beginners. It is located on the north side of FW so I would play this course before heading to Swinney Park. Updated/more detailed tee signs would help make this coures rate .5 higher.

Casuals' Paradise 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 13, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Concrete boxes are long and flat. Holes well marked (#3's tee sign knocked down when parks dept. cleared downed limbs). Al Pier baskets. Front 9 in mature growth and undulating fairways. On the shorter side. but longer on the back. Practice basket. Well maintained by parks dept.. Two well marked mandos. Course is a bit easy, but alternate tees are here. Tees are natural and marked by ground laiden bricks. At the postings board is a box filled with wonderful maps Brian Miller made on Google Earth, featuring both standard and alternate tees along with distances. Trash can on #1, fountain near 9 and restrooms at baseball diamonds. Oh, and within walking distance of my house (though I didn't weigh that aspect).

Cons:

Back is a little wide open and front is a little short, but perfect for a beginning player. Longest is 416' and the shortest is around 200'. Like to have more trashcans, as this course gets a lot of use. Children's playground near 5&6, but not bad; we did have to move the basket on 5 when it was put in, but new position made a mando. The locals can be a little too friendly. DO NOT BACK YOUR CAR INTO YOUR PARKING SPACE!

Other Thoughts:

Course stays driest of any local courses. If it seems too easy, grab a map, tackle the alts and air out your drives on a 700' hole and a couple others around 500'. Alt. 10 & alt.17 make for some sweet downhill rollers. Hope to see you out there.

Open and easy 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Nice tees, signs, well maintained. No rough, no thorns/ivy, hazards. Well designed utilizing all the available trees. Easy to play.

Cons:

Pretty much wide open. Not a challenge to any skill level to 3 any hole.

Other Thoughts:

Could use some more planted trees or bushes, roped OB maybe. Great for a short open city park.
