A delightful park with a few thorns.

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Sloter Park has a recreational course that will be a pleasant challange for all players. The 18 basket course is on the south-west side of a large multi-purpose park. Baskets vary but all will catch your disc. Tees vary from being concrete tiles to asphalt because some fairways begin from a pedestrian path. Although the terrain is flat, some course creativity is showcased in the meandering fairways that start in the lush forest, proceed to an open field and back into the forest. Drives can be from just under 200 feet to over 700 feet. Some fairways are wide open while others are narrow and flanked by dense vegetation which require a bit a skill to stay in bounds. The water shots were short and should not be feared. Tees signs give par and distance. Most of the park is well manicured and offers activities for the whole family.

Cons:

Finding the disc golf course in this large park can be troublesome for first-timers as there are no signs that direct you to the course especially if entering from the north. Some drives are choked by the forest that has closed in on the fairway or obscured the tee. Eleven, twelve and fourteen were difficult to find.Tee one is hidden behind two trees up against a fence. Drives four and ten had thorn branches that could cause a nasty gash and players need to take caution when near these plants. Another issue is all the pedestrians that frequent this park and some of the fairways play through or are adjacent to walkways. People will be picniking on fairways too. Thus, players will have to throw safety shots to avoid strollers and joggers. Two drives criss cross in an open field but it should not be a problem. Lastly, the course needs a bit a landscaping to improve some tees and fairways to make them more enjoyable. Mandatory markers are obscured by high nettles causing trouble identifying where the fairway is.

Other Thoughts:

If in Amsterdam, this course is worth the trip. The fantastic beauty of Sloter Park will be a delight for eveyone. Plenty of amenities are here along with friendly people. It might be best to play in the morning before the park gets crowded. Make sure to take a picture of the disc golf course map so you can locate all the tees.

Great Play after a long flight 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 25, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice Tee Pads
-Helpful tee signs
-Unique homemade baskets mixed in with some DISCatchers, homemade baskets don't catch great, but they still get most putts.
-Fairways are nice grass, the course is on a city park in Amsterdam, so it is pretty well maintained.
-Good tree use, Hole 4 especially.
-The map helps a ton, not that the course is hard to navigate, but the map makes it really easy, especially if you're a little brain dead from an international flight.
-Water is used well as an obstacle as it should be in a park with canals. The water is super icky, but that just makes it more of an obstacle I guess.
-A couple benches which are sturdy and relatively new, but I wouldn't really want to sit on them because of the garbage.
-Some nice open long holes and some shorter technical ones, excellent mix of forehand and backhand.

Cons:

-Rough is super tricky, lots of stinging nettles, and tons of garbage.
-Unsurprisingly, there is not much opportunity for elevation at this course, there are a few mounds that could have enhanced play, but they are left unused. TIP: on hole 9 throw from the top of the sculpture mound, it is way cooler than the actual tee.
-Paths from hole to hole are decent, but almost every single hole plays across or next to popular bike paths. Hole 4's fairway is a bike path.
-This course feels sketchy, there is a lot of graffiti, and tons of garbage everywhere.

Bad Day To go. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Tee signs these are good, everyone is pretty easy to tell where to go and they tell you where the next tee pad is.

Shot Verity - there is a ton of stuff all round to shot, and play different, Hole seven has a U shape hole, water, trees, open.

Park - The Park is beautiful and easy to find if the bridge isn't closed off for it.

baskets- They have baskets and are in pretty good condition.

Cons:

Construction - It seems construction is always happening here. When I went the bridge you would normally cross was closed, an I missed hole 1-3 and 17-18 as they were unable to get to without swimming.

The Park - it seems people just chill in the fairways here and don't really like it if you ask them to move. So I had to skip a few holes because of this.

Other Thoughts:

Honestly it was super hard for me to find this place, I took tram 14 to the Sloterpark exit, and when i started walking towards the sport center the bridge afterwords (which I think is where you go) was closed to construction, so I had to keep walking and get to hole 4 where I started.

It seems like construction is always happening here, and also if it's a nice sunny day people will be hanging out in the fairway.

If you are with a non disc golfer, there is a swimming area off the exit and what seemed to be a petting zoo across the street, which will help.

I think I would of rated this course a little bit higher if there weren't so many people sitting in the fairways un willing to move, and construction always there as it seems to be by other reviews. The course is great, I would say the best bet is to get there early to avoid people.

I was staying in central Amsterdam and it was about a 28 minute tram ride.
