COURSE UPDATE! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 23, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course has been changed a lot since the last review in 2013. That being said, there's a fair amount of inaccurate information that applies to the old layout of the course.

I hadn't played the older course before, at least not the one depicted in the posted pictures for Snowbasin on this website, but it seems they lengthened out the holes quite a bit. That provides some added challenge that wasn't there before. Holes 2 and 3 are listed as par 5's and many holes are par 4. Realistically, one could argue lower par numbers for a few of the holes, but the longer holes are no slouches.

Mix of backhand and forehand throws

Excellent views when you come here, so even if you aren't playing your best round, it's an amazing place to visit and hike around

Sturdy tee blocks with rubber pads makes for a sure footed drive

Good signage and maps provided at the lodge

Lots of elevation change. Holes 1-3 are very uphill, and the last few are very downhill. Some neutral as well. The downhill shots are different than most types of throws you encounter on other courses, and provide some extra challenge

Cons:

Tee pads are a little short so you'll find yourself condensing your run-up on a few holes

Bike trail zig-zags throughout much of the course so you have to give bikers the right of way. Not usually too bad a problem

Baskets weren't incredible quality, but were plenty manageable

Other Thoughts:

I skipped holes 3-5 due to lack of time but would have loved to play them based on what they looked like on the map. Is seems like the course designer took some ideas mentioned in previous reviews and made some longer holes, as well as using trees on some of the holes. Most were fairly open though. Bring some water because you'll be doing some hiking. Holes 1-3 are where pretty much all the uphill takes place. Course finishes with a nice, short downhill shot that takes accuracy and distance control. Fairly manageable fairways, but there is potential for losing a disc of you go in the rough

Overall, I feel like they did a decent job at bringing more variety and difficulty to the updated course. Wish I could've played all the holes. Not too many people aside from the occasional hiker and or biker. It's a little out of the way, but if you are in the area, this course is worth the visit.
