Cute Little Course

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 17, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Pretty easy to navigate: You can't overstate how nice it is to have a course that's easy to navigate. Sure, I needed the map, but that's not a big deal as long as I could find the next hole.
-Decent variety of shots: Not much space to work with here, but the designer(s) did a good job feeling like each hole was its own. It wasn't 18 unique kinds of shots, but it each hole felt different.
-Pin positions: I thought there were some neat pin positions on a few of the holes. (Baskets were neither good nor bad.)
-Big field to warm up in: There's a huge field right by hole 1 where you could warm up. I didn't, but I saw others doing it. Always a huge perk.

Cons:

-Signage: The first several holes had these great, informative signs and then starting about hole 9 they just said "hole X." Kind of a bummer.
-Teepads: Mostly rubber with a few naturals.
-Short and not so technical holes: I don't have a problem with short holes as long as they have a good challenge to them and are fair. I felt like many of the holes had a "gimmick" like a mando or a tree 20-30ft in front of the teepad, right in the middle of the fairway. Yes, make me earn my shots, but make it fun and interesting. These sorts of obstacles remove the choice from the game, the risk-and-reward.
-Multi-use area: Call me a snob, but I like it when a course is just a course and not 6 other things. School was out when I played, but it would've been a real bummer to have to navigate around children playing ninjas in the woods or whatever.
Hole 14: If there are layout options on Udisc that avoid a hole, it's a bad hole. Related to my point earlier: if the water is "in play" that's one thing, but hole 14 is just set up to eat (drown) discs. Not fun.

Other Thoughts:

Looks like it's been a few years since somebody reviewed this course. I only played it once, but I thought the lack of recent reviews outweighed my inexperience with the course.

I like to reserve "Other Thoughts" for the question: What would my game be like if this were my home course? I would have a strong game with my mids, and I think my putting would be pretty strong. Most pins are open, so if you could bang home 20-40' putts with regularity, you'd be Kingstown Royalty. My long game would suffer, though wouldn't be totally gone with the 3 field holes (16, 17, 18). In short, I'd say that I'd have a solid short game with some weakness such as a reliable forehand or a big bomb.

This isn't a bad course, but I certainly wouldn't make a super special trip to go and play it. It's the kind of course I'd want 15 minutes from a great course. I'd come and play this one first with my buzzz and my aviar, throw some warmup bombs in the field, and then go play the great course.

Solid short course for all abilities 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Good signage, kiosk has course map.
-Ample parking with bathrooms and water onsite.
-Great lines on most holes. Clearly defined fairways with challenging gaps to hit.
-Good directions from basket to next tee, easy to navigate.
-A couple great holes, 3 has a beautiful rockwall guarding the green after a nice wooded fairway. 8 uses the elevation and treelines to create a fun dogleg hole.

Cons:

-Some poison ivy and thorns, hard to hold this against the course as they are so pervasive in the Northeast.
-Only 10 holes, give me 8 more of the same and this would be a great course.
-Some tee pads are uneven even though they look relatively freshly installed.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed all the rounds I played at this course and will definitely be back if I find myself in the area again. Most of the holes are great lines and fun to throw. I love the New England look with lots of boulders and rock walls. The best short course (sub-18 hole) I've played so far.

Quick rounds! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 22, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-A great resource for an area without many disc golf courses. My experience here was WAY better than Ninigret Park, the only other course in RI to my knowledge.
-Free
-Easy parking
-I played a solo round in 23 minutes without rushing, including the time to walk to and from the car. Verys hort walks between all holes and parking lot make for quick, fun rounds.
-They squeezed the holes in perfectly on to the course. They don't intersect and they keep a safe distance from one another.
-I like that they did 10 rather than the traditional 9. If you've got the space, use it!
-An array of shots. A couple dog-legs right. A couple dog-legs left.
-Nice use of scenic stone walls.
-Great signs
-Most tees are great
-Baskets are good
-Hardly any poison ivy
-It's easy to find an errantly thrown disc in the light underbrush
-There are lots of trees, but they make the course challenging and fair. Every hole has clear fairways and you don't get punished if you throw it straight.
-Navigation was pretty easy going solo for my first outing.
-Nice kiosk in the parking lot with map and sponsor info.

Cons:

-Underbrush has thorns. Yowch!
-Only 10 holes
-1 or 2 of the tees are dirt
-It took me 5 minutes to find the first tee. After that navigating was easy without a map, playing solo for my first time.
-There's no "wow" factor to the course. When a course has 10 holes and no "wow" factor, a 3 rating is pretty darn good in my book.

Other Thoughts:

I played 3 rounds in about 80 minutes. I loved the experience. There's nothing spectacular about the course, but they did a great job with it. If you come, be prepared for lots of trees, but all the fairways are wide enough to keep things challenging and fair.

Hole 1 is a nice warm up hole. Anny RHBH through a gap to the pin. Potential birdie.
Holes 2 and 3 start to work the arm on straight shots that make you pick a line and nail it.
Hole 4 is dog leg left around a bunch of trees.
Hole 5 is a sweet shot that will challenge how straight you can keep your disc. A great hole.
Hole 6 is a beast. Lots of trees and distance makes for a hard par.
Hole 7 has a couple routes to choose from. Pick one and nail it.
Hole 8 is a sweet dog leg right. Felt so good nailing a birdie.
Holes 9 and 10 are like the others: a couple options, a bunch of trees. Challenging and fair.

For improvement, build some more holes, get down all the rubber tees, and get rid of all the thorns. Oh, and put in beginner tees so we can turn more locals onto this sport.

I travel to this area to visit my in-laws. I will play many rounds on this course every time I'm in town!
