Pros:

The course takes advantage of the land available very well. The gold tees are pretty tough concidering it is in an open park. The Blue tees are shorter but are still fairly tight but good for beginners and practice. The grounds are well groomed and baskets are in good shape. While short the tee pads are concrete. This would be a great course to play with a group of friends.

Cons:

The community surrounding the course and wandering the course did not make me feel safe. The abandoned buildings along side the course and homeless people on the course made it feel sketchy. This is most pronounced in the transition under the bridge where there were several people sleeping and stored goods. This is the point where we decided to leave.

Pros:

Above average course for being "downtown", but it loses points for "funky energy" and trashy. Location is very interesting in one of Jacksonville's historic districts. Every tee sign included info from the historic society which enhanced my appreciation and knowledge of the city's past. The tees were mostly good and signage excellent.

Cons:

I wouldn't have spent time in this park if there wasn't a course to be played there. The canal was polluted, there was trash in many places, and two of the underpass tunnels leading to holes were fouled by urine, trash, and who knows what else!

Other Thoughts:

The sun was shining and winds light. The grass was green and mowed, the layout fun and somewhat challenging, but I didn't really enjoy being in that park. What a grand place that part of town USED to be! But it needs some TLC before I would play the course again.

Downtown Discgolf 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Brand new course with Innova Discatchers that moves through numerous small city parks. There is good use of natural and man made obstacles. The course moves along past impressive 100 year old homes, and the grounds are very well maintained. There are good tee pads on every hole, some are new concrete and others are painted lines on existing sidewalks. They are all of good size and work well. There is a good mix of trees and they are mature and well trimmed. There was hardly any trash the day we played, even though there were only a few trash cans. I liked the way the course moves along and the pin placement, I would like to meet the designer and shake his hand.

Cons:

There was limited signage and a lack of trash cans.
There also was no restroom facilities. The restroom on hole # 4 was locked.
This area is very nice to look at, but the neighborhood is pretty ruff, crime and lots of homeless.
I would play with a group considering the area just to be on the safe side.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed this course very much and would suggest this course to anyone passing through Jax. it's right off the interstate and easy to get back on. I think this course can only get better, with more signage, trashcans, and restrooms.
