A course suitable for a small number of disc golfers drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice signs
Creative use of limited space

Cons:

Fairways cross one another
Too much OB
Need to have at least 200 feet of distance with a lot of accuracy to be playable
Not playable at certain times of the day

Other Thoughts:

Who is this course not designed for?
- People who cannot throw at least 200 feet
- People who do not have consistently great accuracy
- People who do not feel comfortable throwing near high traffic areas
- People who play disc golf at times that families often come to the park

Who is the intended audience of this course?
- People who can throw at least 300 feet with a high level of accuracy and are not affected by throwing near high traffic areas

I have played this course many times, have birdied every hole, and have spent a long time reflecting on the pros and cons of the course. The first review does an excellent job of giving a hole by hole analysis, so I encourage you to read that one for specific details of each hole.

If you watch professional disc golf and you see professionals play on courses that are loaded with out of bounds and small landing zones, this course is similar to those. If you want to avoid throwing OB on every hole, below is essentially the shot(s) you need to throw if you are trying to birdie each hole (assuming right handed player)
Hole 1: 300 foot forehand or very accurate roller that will be OB most of the way
Hole 2: 380 foot hyzer flip
Hole 3: 350 foot forehand, flex backhand, or turnover backhand
Hole 4: 250 foot straight shot (low ceiling tunnel shot)
Hole 5: 380 foot hyzer flip
Hole 6: 300 foot throw to clear the water and a 250+ hyzer forehand or backhand turnover (only recommend throwing floating discs)
Hole 7: 300 foot turnover backhand or hyzer forehand
Hole 8: 350 foot hyzer forehand or roller
Hole 9: 240 foot shot (can be any shaped shot)

As I mentioned above, this course becomes nearly unplayable if it is a heavy use time at the park. Below are the most common safety issues that arise on each hole. When these are not an issue, you can more easily ignore OB and play more aggressively.
Hole 1: people playing tennis/basketball on the courts
Hole 2: not many issues here since you can easily see cars coming on the park road you throw over
Hole 3: cars parked near the gazebo along the road
Hole 4: people playing tennis/basketball on the courts, cars parked in the parking lot near the basket
Hole 5: kids playing in the playground, cars parked in the parking lot near the playground, cars parked along the middle strip of grass that is in bounds
Hole 6: people playing on the volleyball courts, throwing towards the swimming pool
Hole 7: walkers along the path, people playing on the volleyball court
Hole 8: people playing on the volleyball court
Hole 9: cars parked along the island

I find this course most enjoyable to play at times in which the park is very empty with no kids around. When the areas listed above become busy, I find this course too stressful to play.

I was very optimistic about this course because the one at Sterling College is amazing to play. However, it feels as though the course designer did not have a variety of skilled players try the course before installing it to see how dangerous many of the holes can end up being.

Trying to be something it shouldn't be

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice DD tee signs and Patriot baskets.

Has a couple of decent holes

Cons:

Horrible layout
One of the more dangerous courses I have played

Other Thoughts:

Where do I start. There is no fairway for hole 1. The fairway is the road. There is a very small sliver of grass between the road and tennis course, but unless you have a big arm the shot is to throw across to the island hole that is actually the green for hole 9.
Then you walk BACK to the island green to throw to basket 2. You are throwing over the road again, and over the Armed Forces memorial throwing from the #9 Green, over the #1 green and over #3's fairway/Green. The basket is in a decent spot, but my shot went across a tee pad and this was one of the only birdies I actually got on this course.
Well, I was really confused when I went to what I thought was a short little hole, the tee box my drive for hole two went over was actually the tee box for hole 4. Hole 3 you walk way up over and throw across the road, OVER the armed forces memorial (Again) to a basket that is very close to basket 1. I actually had a putt on this one but missed it.
Hole 4, the first sort of safe hole to throw. This is a gauntlet hole, you have a narrow fairway with trees on the left and the tennis courts on the right. It's a decent size gap that is hittable. This is a longer hole out of my range so played it with an upshot to the gap and then on to the basket for my 3.
Hole 5, literally using the same area as hole 1 for a tee, the basket is way town the road with a parking area, trails and other holes to your right. I turned my drive over pretty hard and had to throw over the playground to get up to the basket for my 3.
I was really confused trying to find hole 6, I had actually thrown my drive on 5 over basket 7 and walked over tee box for hole 8. Hole 6 was down by the lake and was the longest hole on the course. Don't get me wrong, this was actually a good hole, probably the best hole on the course. Did not make it safe by any means. There is a mando to try to keep you out of 7's fairway, or to keep you from throwing an upshot over the pool. But in general, you had the lake on the left the whole way down the 500ft fairway with a grove of tree's around the 350 point and the basket sitting up on a hill with OB sidewalks behind it punishing overthrow. I hit a tree limb on my upshot, overthrew my 2nd upshot and while staying in bounds, missed my comeback putt.
I got nothing to complain about hole 7, it's a decent park setting hole. Might have been a little too close to the pool, but you were throwing away instead of towards it or along the fence line.
Hole 8, all I got to say about this one is they made it a double mando that makes you throw over basket 7. I assume this was because the ideal shot was to throw down the road and try to skip up to the basket. The basket (and fairway) has a sidewalk going down it that is considered OB. Yep, my upshot went over the sidewalk and I literally had a drop in 4 with the penalty stroke.
Hole 9, shorter to the island than hole 1, I can only assume this hole is played as an island hole. However my wife does not have the arm to reach it and there was a guy on the green with headphone on and his metal detector. I tried to get his attention but wound up just throwing to the right hand side of the hole for my birdie.
I just looked and this course has several high ratings on UDisc.. Why? This course was terrible and did not take other park users into consideration.
