Beginner course in a nice park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 17, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good, very visible DISCatchers.
Small tee signs marking each tee. This is a pro only because the natural tees would be tough to locate otherwise.
Mostly open, with few obstacles, beginner friendly course.
Loops around the outside of the park, trying to stay away from other activities.
Nice restrooms on site.

Cons:

Probably the biggest Con at Stokesdale is how close the holes are to other activities. As I mentioned above, they really tried to stay away from the walking path and soccer fields, but didn't have a lot of options on several holes.
Depending on the traffic on the walking path, and whether there is a soccer game going on, it may not be an issue, but several holes are next to the path, cross it, or cross a corner of the soccer field.
Natural tees were not great, but not a big problem.

Other Thoughts:

This is a good course for a town this size. A good chance for the locals to try the sport or practice space for more advanced players.
The course averages 260' per hole, so experienced players could get in a good practice (or warmup) round here. A pretty good distance for beginners, with a couple of long ones, but there are few trees to navigate and very little chance to lose a disc.
It would be nice to see more of these courses pop up in smaller towns.

Town May Close Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 26, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Wide Open. Great for Beginners. Low Traffic. Good Baskets. A great warm up course before heading to the Patriot @ Triad.

Cons:

Only 9 holes. Low Traffic. Short. Not marked well enough. All par 3.

Other Thoughts:

This course is behind Stokesdale town hall and some on the council are threatening to close this course for not enough use. For the regular player, it will not be a played often. If there was someone to take this course under it's wing and promote it for younger players, kids and develop a program, it could be revitalized. Sadly, I think its days are numbered and that is unfortunate.

A solid basic course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 18, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great for beginners. Good use of space/land. Never crowded.

Cons:

It can be tricky locating tee boxes first time thru. Hole yardage seems off on most holes. Walking path beside most holes so there could be a lot of waiting for walkers to be safely out of your way.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 8, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good beginner level course
Fairly easy to follow
Despite its youth, the course is quite playable
Little to no chance of losing a disc
Easy to find

Cons:

I prefer tougher courses, typically,
I prefer courses with multiple tees
tees could stand improvement, but hey, it is a very young course
I don't like the rock filled water runoffs that can come into play.

Other Thoughts:

non-golfers could easily be a factor (the park has
holes 4 and 5 run parallel to each other, but in the same direction, which can be a little confusing your first round. The park has been deserted when I played.
