Bag It And Tag It 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 21, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

(1.181 Rating) A small school course with good baskets and tees.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - A very Beginner and Novice friendly layout. Moderately spaced out trees with little to no overgrowth. Near impossible to lose a disc and young players with athleticism will have opportunities to card a birdie.
- CHAINS AND TEES - DISCatchers that are in perfect shape. The tees are Concrete. Although smaller in size at 4 feet by 8 feet, they will work for this short course.
- QUICK PLAY - I did two rounds here. the first one in 20 minutes and the second one I ran in 10 minutes trying to card an ace.
- LOCATION - One of 3 courses I bagged in the area in under 2 hours.

Cons:

The six-basket aspect really affects the rating for this course.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - I was hoping to shoot 6 down to no avail. Although the shots are relatively easy for skilled players, players still have to miss a couple trees or even split gaps on a couple tee offs. I'll fathom a guess and say that even par would draw around an 800 rated round.
- LACK OF SIGNAGE - Other than the baskets, nothing is marked here. As noted in the pros, the baskets are numbered and generally face its corresponding tee.
- NO EXTRAS - The basics of tees and baskets as noted above, were done well. However, that's where it ends. There aren't any multi tees, alternate baskets, practice baskets, benches or course map.
- HOLE VARIETY - With only six holes, one can thus expect a layout lacking in diversity. A few holes are moderately wooded and a couple are lightly wooded park style. Distance variation is minimal and there is a little elevation change in the 15-foot range. No water features or rock features to spice up a hole line.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - Below average, but for courses I've rated this low, my score for beauty actually brought my total rating score up. The maintenance was ok, but parts were not mowed, likely due to it being summer recess. Lots of manmade structures were in view the entire time, from buildings to parking areas to chain link fences.

Other Thoughts:

It's hard to get excited for 6-hole courses. Among the ten or so sixers I've played now, I'd say this one is above average among that grouping. It's got the basics other than signage and it loops. I could see this being a good outdoor activity for the school or practice grounds for near by players who are not yet ready for Rec level challenges. As is, I'm going with a 1.25. Had there been numbered signage with distances, i may have considered crossing it over the 1.25 threshold for a low 1.5. There is no need to check this course out if you are in the Traverse City area unless you are a bagger like me. I played all the courses in town while on vacation here in the summer of 2021 and would recommend Hickory Hills to skilled players and I would recommend the Backyard for those who just want to relax and stay low-key.
- NAVIGATION - No Signage (see cons above), but this still shouldn't be epic hard to figure out. The baskets are numbered and there are tee pads pretty much pointing at the baskets. The course plays in a loop starting at 11 o'clock and runs clockwise.
