Really Well Done Short Course

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 9, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course infrastructure:

These are perhaps one of if not the best tee signs I've ever seen. They give distance, hole number, next tee indicators and elevation profile right on them. In addition to that they also have a QR code on the sign that takes you to a map/scorecard combo that you can download right on your smart phone. This is a really nice touch and makes the course feel modern. That being said navigation is only an issue in one spot and that's the walk out from hole 6 to hole 7. Basically you walk around the creek to the right and then go left again on the other side of the creek following the little dirt path uphill until you reach the tee pad, when you see woodchips you are in the right spot. The signs also have little friendly reminders like "only throw when pedestrians are clear." The black hole portal baskets look brand new which makes sense as the course was just put in this year so they actually are. It's a well maintained park and it shows.

landscape, design, the holes themselves:

This course makes excellent use of the moderate elevation changes and few trees it has to work with. Hole 1 is the longest hole on the course at 290 but throwing downhill most people can reach this who have been playing a while. There is rough on the right and long and the basket on the side of a hill slanting to the right catching RHBH hyzers. Holes like number 2 you can barely see from the tee pad because it's half way down the side of the hill and is obstacle free but with danger behind the basket. Hole 4 is a very short hole from an elevated tee pad but is an "island" hole. They built in bricks designating what's in and out of the "island" to make this hole a little more fun and challenging. Hole 7 is the only truly tightly wooded hole on the course that follows a right to left dogleg up a hill with about a 10 foot wide fairway the hole time, probably my favorite on the course. The basket locations here are very well thought out, a lesser designer would have put baskets at the bottom of the hills instead of the middle of the hills which is much better for challenging shot placement and distance control.

Cons:

The holes themselves even though well done are very short and reachable for everyone except the truly new or unathletic. The space required to make longer holes just isn't here unless you cut out a few holes and with the demographic you're targeting I don't see the point frankly. I love the island hole and the way the course was designed to maximize avoiding people walking down the walking trails but it needs both something else to punish bad shots. Also it's still a course that plays through a walking/jogging trail and also near private property. The tee signs tell you not to jump fences into people's yards if you throw over them but people are going to anyhow I imagine, I've seen it before on other courses and sometimes those courses get pulled. If you do throw into someone's yard perhaps after your round you can go to their house, knock on their door and politely ask for your disc back. Wishful thinking on my part I think, never underestimate stupidity, rudeness or the value of a DX Boss.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice course with a nice park and some fun throws to challenge your putter or SuperClass discs at. This is another one of my Champion Zephyr only rounds courses and we had a good time. I highly recommend visiting this little website I linked here at the bottom, its a short history of the course and why and how it was approved, the thought process behind it a good little read. Not a destination course but for sure play this if you are in town as it is a very fun course to play and a good cool down or warm up for some of the 18 hole courses around. The link I promised:
