Parma’s Sixth Course Is A (Very) Hidden Gem

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 15, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Brown Course is the second nine hole course installed at Veteran's Memorial Park (in addition to the main 18 hole course).

It's easiest played by venturing into the wooded area after the ninth hole of The Green Course. To access it from the parking lot, it's about a 600 foot walk along the baseball diamonds.

+ Despite its short overall length, this is NOT an easy course to play! Playing up and down a steep hillside on the edge of the property, you'll want to wear some sturdy shoes for this trek.

+ There are multiple standout holes here, the best of which is #5. It's a classic downhill shot, with trees on both sides of the defined fairway.

+ This is a great place to practice your heavily wooded mid-range/approach game. It's short, but plays much longer because of the elevation. Accurate placement and shot shaping is a must to score well.

+ As mentioned earlier, you can play 18 holes here in addition to The Green Course.

Cons:

- Being a short "add-on" course, you'll find the bare minimum in terms of amenities. The tees are natural, with a few being uneven or having exposed roots. The baskets are recycled and not in the best shape.

- The brown kickboards at the tee areas can be tough to spot in the woods. Also, the tape on the baskets is often pointing you in the wrong direction for the next hole.

- Hard to access the course if you just wanted to play it as it's own individual nine.

- Could use a little TLC. Large branches and a few trees partially block tee areas and paths. #5 is getting a bit overgrown.

Other Thoughts:

I was very surprised with how much different The Brown Course is compared to The Green Course. It's easy to tell why the two nines are seperated; One is a little more open and forgiving, perfect for beginners. The other, despite its short length, is heavily wooded and very hilly. Still not the most difficult course ever, but likely less fun for those learning the sport. For the rest of us, it's a lot of fun and should be played when you're in Parma!
