Fun open holes, Challenging wooded holes 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course provides a good challenge to score well for players of all most skill levels. As being a private course several amenities are provided; refreshments, snacks, large scorecards, maps. The layout utilizes the elevation very well with several extreme changes both up and down both in the woods as well as the open. Each hole incorporates elevation changes. The open holes use the existing trees to give the holes better character than just wide open holes without an obstacles. Several holes use mandos and sand traps to force you to shape your shot more accurately on a line as opposed to just flinging it towards the basket. The wind can be a large factor and will probably add a few strokes if you're not paying attention. The wooded holes can give some people headaches if they aren't played cleanly. Tight gaps and good basket placements are what make these holes great. The course finishes off with several big downhill holes where you can really let them fly. These holes are great on the legs considering how much elevation is traversed on the rest of the course.

Cons:

During the summer months if there isn't a lot of golfers out at the course, they tend to let the grass get pretty long. This leads to headaches trying to find your discs. Personally, tee pads leave a little something to be desired. They are grippy but several have noticeable dips in them that will hold water after rain. Also the size of the tee pad is size dependent on the length of the hole. They didn't take into consideration that you'd be throwing uphill or downhill. The rough can get ridiculous if you're unlucky enough to have to venture there. After a few large storms in the last few years a lot of large trees have come down and a lot of dead hanging limbs still come into play. The fallen trees are pushed off the fairway but still within distance of a disc to get there and bury itself into deep trouble. The extreme wooded holes (#13 and 14) can be unplayable after rainstorms although the former has a rope to lead you down the hill. With being a private course, its surprising that there are hardly any trash cans on the course.

Other Thoughts:

This course has many birdie opportunities and can become aggravating when you miss them. I think the wooded holes for the most part are better than the open holes. More skilled players shouldn't have trouble scoring well while it may leave less skilled players frustrated. My rating got knocked down one half star due to the lack of maintenance in cleaning up fallen trees in the woods and the lack of uniformity of tee pads. The people working there have the tools to clean this up, they just don't. Overall, I'd say it is worth the five dollars if you're going to play multiple rounds while you're there.

Pros:

I liked the diversity of the course. It's playable for both lefties and righties. Very challenging course. I like the tight wooded holes and the way it challenges your accuracy. my first time there I shot a 65 for the 21 hole layout.

Cons:

Nice course and it would be even better if it had benches and trash cans on every fourth or fifth hole. Didn't like the Mando on the 700ft hole either.

Other Thoughts:

It's worth the 3 + hour drive up there and the $5.00's to play.

It's worth playing 2+ years drive by

Pros:

The course is well maintained. Good teepads and good signage. One neat feature that I wish more courses would use is a "pro par" and "rec par" listed on each sign. I think the idea of having an easier par for new players could help encourage people who are just getting into the game. I tried to count the difference in strokes between the Fun Farm's two sets of pars...it gets a bit muddled late when you have multiple pins to choose from, but it's on the order of 15 strokes easier if you played the rec par.

There's a variety of open and wooded holes, which is nice, as well as elevation change. There are really some unique holes that are unlike anything else I've played in this area.

Cons:

Some of the open holes are a bit too short and a bit too wide open. I don't know what could be done, as the plot of land is pretty much used as best it can be...but there are some holes that could use a few more obstacles to create some challenge.

Additionally, there are some really steep hills back in the wooded part that could potentially be hazardous if the ground was wet/muddy.

Other Thoughts:

I live in Louisville, and this course is worth the drive and $5. I'll probably play it at least once a year.
