Nicely Done Private Course

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 7, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

I didn't really know what to expect coming to this course. I've played plenty of pay to play in New England, but few pure private courses. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the course that they have built out here.

The property is beautiful. I would be thrilled to call this my home. The front nine starts over a pretty little pond and you start working your way up about 30 floors of hill. The top offers some nice vista views. The back nine plays down closer to the home. The woods here are so pure. There isn't even really any traffic noise. Its just really nice.

The course offers some incredible holes that were really fun to play. You play over that pond twice. Neither is the type of shot that you can't easily clear but you can still lose a disc if you shank it. There is a hole running up the length of a little babbling Brook. My favorite were a few of the downhill shots. Hole 9 is a fantastic hole that offers a big downhill drive to a perfectly built green. This course will absolutely challenge your game with a nice variety of shots. There are a good number of shorter, technical holes. You have to throw ropes on a number of them, but they never feel unfair. The lines are there to be hit. Some of the longer holes are challenging pars that will need multiple good shots. The variety really keeps it fresh and interesting.

There are three sets of tees here, offering red, white and blue. They did a good job of building well designed Red Tees that my wife enjoyed. Many courses they feel tacked on, but here the shots offered the same par challenges for that rating level. They are gravel tees. They probably need a fresh coat but were by no means bad. For a private course, I felt the tees beat my expectations. There are tee signs, as well, but look for them on the Whites. The distances for all three are on the signs on the White.

Cons:

You have to accept that this is a private course. You pull up into their driveway and the 1st Tee is in their front yard pretty much. You'll play close to the home one more time. This isn't a course you're coming out to party at, recognize that you are on someone's property. Part of being private is that it's just not maintained to the same level that a public or pay to play may be. The tees are only gravel, which isn't the end of the world, but should be mentioned. There are sections of the course that probably need some trimming to create better lanes, but I imagine limited resources and/or want to tear down their woods. That ties into some of the more negative parts of the course itself. There are times that it feels a bit poke and hope. To the course's credit, that is not at all often, but there are a handful of holes here that have very small lanes, or a hole like 17 where you are asked to throw over their driveway and quite a bit of bushes to get to a green. Those less open holes are not so numerous as to change the overall enjoyment of the course though.

If I had to pick the biggest negative it would be signage. We got lost once and at least one other time had to really stop and try to figure out where we were on the app. Again, private property, but know that there isn't much signage. In fact, I'm not sure what distances to believe either. I don't think the UDisc distances were correct and the tee signs don't always agree with it at all.

Other Thoughts:

It's easy to sign up to play here on Disc Golf Scene and the owner was more than cordial both about my wife and I playing and then even came to introduce himself. I couldn't imagine having this in my backyard and he's done a great job.
