sweet par fours and par fives long course is difficult but interesting

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 6, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good signage natural trails multiple tee pads and basket locations on each hole. Nice long distance track 7700feet or something but found myself reaching for putter off the tee a lot because the fairways are very tight and lots of trees and palmettos if you go outside the fairways. Overall it's a great course I'd play again. Also the park should have a hole 19 around the lake after 18 walk back to the lot.

Cons:

I really wish that somebody would cut out some trees right in the middle of the fairways it gets frustrating when you throw a good shot just to nail a tree!

One of the Best I have played

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 10, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Green Gauntlet, Florida's #1 Rated course, is located in the town of Eustis, NW of Orlando in Lake County. There are several good courses in this county, but they went all out on The Green Gauntlet. Located in a sizeable park with the only other activities being a walking path around the large pond and what appeared to be an underused soccer field. The soccer field can be used for warm ups (shorter grass would be nice) and the walking path is used to access a few holes, but should only come into play on #10.

Two tees and two baskets on every hole. Nearly all of the tees are concrete and a good size, there were a couple rubber mats for tees (#2 White for one), but very few of these. The baskets are all DISCatchers, Red for the short location and Yellow bands on the longer position. Most of the tees are in front of each other, but about 5 presented a different look at the hole. Kind of the opposite on the baskets, most were in different positions, with just several in line with each other.

With 4 different combinations in play all the time, it really increases the number of players the course can accomodate. While there is very little elevation in play (and not every combination on those holes) this course gets its teeth from the green rough. There is no true "Gauntlet" hole, but nearly every hole is bordered on both sides by the rough. It most cases, its not the disc swallowing rough (looking at you Malabar!), but woods, palms and brush that will reveal your disc. (There are a few places with disc lost potential, I'll cover those in the Cons.) I felt the fairways were adequate in size, enough room to hit your line, even when throwing for distance. Of course, there are some tight shots to make, and several places with scattered trees in the fairways that have to be negotiated.

With the dual tees and dual baskets, there are a lot of split fairways. Some offer two ways to play the hole, some just one route from the tee. These can be very distinct like on #5 and #11, while others are more subtle, just requiring shot shaping around the fairway trees. Because of this, the variety of left and right turning holes balances out pretty well. I never felt I was throwing one way, more than the other.

Nice modern restrooms at the main parking area near #1. If you park there, you cut down on the walk from #18 when you are done, and you can go up on the soccer field and throw a few toward #1 to warm up.

Unique basket stack on #7, since the tees are in two different locations, after making the left dogleg, you see the Yellow basket, stacked on top of the Red basket. The elevated Yellow basket gives you that extra putting challenge.

Cons:

The tee signs are very nice, hole layout, showing both tees and baskets and the distance to each. However, they are printed and inserted in plastic sheet protectors, about half of these are missing. For a first timer, this requires a few trips up the fairway to scout it out, but you would be OK after playing a couple of times. No, the UDisc map doesn't help much, since they normally don't show the doglegs.

There are a few places that looked to have high lost disc potential: left of #2, right of #3 and left of #6. A little more clearing of these areas may help with keeping players moving.

#3 could use some more clearing in other areas, the straight route from the White tee is a pretty tight throw (probably to increase that challenge, since it is the shortest route to the baskets), and the second area of brush in the fairway could be thinned out.

#18 finishes pretty far from the main parking area and over 1000' from #1 tees. Not too bad for most playing a normal round, but would be bad for a shotgun start event.

The little used soccer field would be a great gathering spot and warm up area, but the long grass makes that difficult. I played just a couple of weeks after Hurricane Ian devastated Florida, so I'm guessing the Parks crews have other things to focus on.

Since there is a creek on the property, and it is heavily wooded, mosquitos can be a problem. Plan accordingly.

Other Thoughts:

This truly is one of the best courses I've played in FL. Mostly Par 4s, one epic Par 5, a couple of low risk pond holes and a few Par 3s to take an ace run on. It plays more like a Golf course than a Disc Golf course, and I am happy to see this change. The Par 4s require a placement drive to set you up for your upshot. If you miss the fairway, there are often chances to scramble for par, but not always.

I played the White layout (White tee to Yellow baskets) and it was #5 before my first birdie, a split fairway, then when they come together, the yellow fairway goes left and red goes right. It took a perfectly threaded upshot to park this hole.

#8 is just about the only hole that uses elevation from both tees to both baskets. From the White tee, a gap to the right of middle fairway brush, then uphill to the basket on the soccer field corner, behind that fairway rough. The red basket is through a tighter left gap, and up to the downslope off the hill.

#15, at 627'/809' is the longest hole and only Par 5 on the course. Its generally tight most of the way, then turns a little left and the fairway rises about 5 feet after your drive. Then the fairway widens and goes right to the red basket. To get to the Yellow basket, you must negotiate a couple of horizontal branches and a narrower fairway. A real challege on three dimensions.

After playing 14 of 17 holes bordered on both sides with rough, you come to #18 and a beautiful view of the large pond. Both tees are next to the walking path and the baskets are below, on the downslope leading down to the pond, down the right side of the hole. There are a couple of large trees on the right side, between the baskets and pond, so its not a wide open run at the baskets.

It's great to find such an outstanding course in a mostly DG only park, almost like a private course. Not only is it the best course in FL, its the best in a real good DG county. Just 15 minutes away is the better than average 9 holer, Nature Park and beginner friendly Lincoln Park in Mount Dora. Then 20 minutes to Lakehawk in Leesburg and 45 minutes to the next best course, Lake Hiawatha in Clermont. All of these in Lake County, north and west of Orlando. Since all these courses have dual tees and dual baskets on every hole, that's 288 unique holes, a pretty good collection in this rural/suburban area.

-Gorgeous views
- Not overly busy

Cons:

- Trash cans here and there would be nice but not necessary.

Other Thoughts:

This course is hands down one of the best in FL and THE best in Central FL. The fairways are emaculate and wide. Although it has the wide fairways there are plenty of challenging shots. It will 100% test your distance and control game. This course is absolutely worth checking out if you haven't already.

Amazingly designed course. Very challenging and requires a number of different shots. Fairways were very clear, rough was very challenging and will punish you. Went for a doubles event and club was very helpful. Be prepared for a long day easy to lose disc in the rough but if you stay on fairway can be very scoreable

Stay in the fairway 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 6, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

With 2 baskets installed on each hole (red basket is usually easier and gold basket is usually harder). and 2 concrete tee pads on each hole (white tee pad is usually easier/shorter and blue tee pad is usually harder/longer), this course is playable 4 ways on each hole.

Course was designed by Master Designer Gregg Hosfeld of World Champion Disc Golf Course Design.

It is the longest wooded course in Florida that I am aware of. Although it is wooded, the fairways are usually very fair.

There are separate or somewhat separate fairways on most holes for the different teepad/basket combinations which leads to a very different feel to most holes depending on which layout your are playing.

2 water holes (10 and 18) and some good elevation changes (holes 1,2,6,8,10 and 18).

Signage is good but permanent signage is otw. Look for blue and white arrows under the baskets pointing you to the next tee pad.

Benches on many holes.

Lots of trash cans.

Nice restroom.

Cons:

Tee signs aren't permanent yet.

Other Thoughts:

Part of the Lake County Disc Golf Trail driven by Innova. There are 5 courses currently on the trail and 1 more funded and approved which should be built in 2021.

Must play course for Central Florida 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 2, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Beautiful, scenic wooded course with decent elevation changes for Florida, especially from blue tees (#2 and #9) and to red basket (#1) gold baskets (#6 and #8). Dual baskets and concrete tees on every hole. 15 of the 18 holes were seemingly carved out of the woods with the designer, Gregg Hosfeld, taking advantage of existing tree falls to make some unique, and just plain cool, approach shots like #7 and #15 gold. Probably the most under-rated feature of this course is the number of holes with distinct dual fairways. I'm not talking about a big tree that some people can play to the right with a backhand while others play to the left with a flick. I'm talking about completely different trails to the same basket where if someone on your card goes the anhyzer route and you take the hyzer one, you don't see them for 100 to 200 feet of the fairway!
Best bathrooms of any disc golf course in central Florida.
Local club members who take care of the maintenance that this City doesn't get to which keeps the course from becoming overgrown.
Excellent course for tournaments. Practice field. Parking lot can accommodate a large number of cars and baskets and tees pads are more than amply spaced so that people teeing off aren't at risk from shots on the previous hole when the course is full.

Cons:

None worth keeping you from playing this course. There's some broken glass on a couple fairways that is slowly being cleaned up by players a little at a time. If you are a lefthanded player without a forehand shot, or a righthanded player without a backhand, you may find the two water carry holes (#10 and #18) are brutally tough due to the severe slope towards the water.

Other Thoughts:

I played this course a couple times right after it opened and it was understandably very rough around the edges. When I went back after almost a year of not playing it, I was blown away by what a difference a year of improvements and beating in had made. The concrete pads are extremely well done and while the rough is still rough, it's no longer the 10 minute search and rescue mission right off the fairway that it was before the course got played a lot. Please consider the dates on earlier reviews and know that many of the earlier cons have been taken care of and if you are one of those people, like I was, who haven't played the course since its early days, go back! You will be impressed!

D**n near perfect 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 3, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good tee signs and other signage/arrows to help direct you to the next hole. Very easy to navigate without a map
-For a wooded course EXTREMELY fair fairways with very few "clusterf***" trees which bring more luck than skill into play
-You will use your entire bag from the longs to longs
-Championship level wooded course
-Bathrooms at the start of the park as well as a practice basket. There is even a soccer field next to holes 1, 2, and 8 if you want to work on some drives prior to starting the round
-2 9-hole courses within a 15 minutes drive if you have the itch to play more than one course
-Unique lines that will challenge the best players to figure out which disc to grab in their bag
-Dog friendly!

Cons:

-Still "unfinished", and by that I mean the main fairways still have a few stumps in the ground and a few loose branches to becomes more than just a minor inconvenience. The concrete tee pads are finally in on MOST holes though a few of the long pads wound benefit from concrete pads.
-As a woods course there is the inevitable choice between clusterf*** fairway and clusterf*** green. Personally I'm ok with one or the other but not both. That said imho there should never be a course design in which luck is a considerable factor to decide between a birdie and a double bogey. It doesn't come into play often but when sitting in the middle of the "fairway" there are 1 or 2 holes where you think to yourself "ok, where the F do I throw now?!"
-It's a little out of the ordinary that 8 and not 9 comes back to the fairway but honestly it didn't bother me.
-Very long walk back to the parking lot from 18 but it's beside a gorgeous lake with lots of wildlife to admire while you contemplate the beating you just took.

Other Thoughts:

So I had heard about this course for QUITE a while. I finally got a weekend to come up from Orlando (nearly an hour from where I live in Windermere) to play it. WELL worth the trip. I played Nature Park after also (see review) and it was a great day of golf. With the other 9 hole course (Lincoln Ave which I didn't actually play) you could easily make a full day of golf of 36 holes.

This is NOT a course for beginners. I will stress this as many other have. Do NOT play this course if you do not have control of your discs or can't throw at a MINIMUM 300 feet consistently. You will lose MULTIPLE discs. As a 1000+ rated player on hole 6 I threw a second drive cause I wasn't sure my first hit the line I wanted. I shanked it and now that disc is lost in the rough. The rough here is serious. There are a few holes where you can recover but most are BRUTAL. I took a 6 on a par 5 after landing in the fairway off the tee shot. That said the fairways are 100% fair. Very few of them had me questioning where the line actually was. When it comes to wooded courses if you've seen any of my previous reviews I'm VERY particular in determining if I think a course is good or meh. This course is solid. If you struggle to shoot even par or better on your local 9 without much rough this isn't the course for you. It will destroy your confidence in disc golf and you will literally have to buy any entirely new bag.

TBH if you take this course, coupled with Lake Hiawathe, 65th Infanty in Kissimmee, and T2 at Bill Frederick I can't think of a better collection of 4 top notch courses in one 45 minute area. Play this course if you have the skill or if you think you have skill and want to test yourself.

The only things preventing this course from getting a full 5 out of me are:
1) As a woods course there's almost always an element of luck (unlucky trees in the fairway; not getting a skip when you were playing for it. Being stuck behind a tree after a 400 foot drive even through you're within circle 1; etc)
2) Tee signs are subpar for the course (The're fine, but for how awesome the course is I think they could be better).
3) There's not really a beginner friendly option ( again debatable as you can argue a championship course doesn't need to be beginner friendly and I DIDN'T play shorts to reds which may be much easier...)

Overall I easily plan to play this course again and highly recommend if you're in the area and within a 30-45 minute drive to give it a go. Strong work from Gregg Hosfeld and World Champion DG Design.

If you don't shoot even par or better on your local 9 without much rough this isn't the course for you. It will destroy your confidence in disc golf and you will literally have to buy any entirely new bag.

Also bring mosquito repellent. I didn't and it was a bit annoying...

Powerful New Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

I almost never rate a course on it's potential , but this course pretty much has it all . For such a new course , the improvements just keep coming . I looked at the top 10 courses in Florida just so I could compare what I played to those . I am positive that once this course receives the necessary amount of reviews , it will rank high in the top 10 . First , the parking lot here is plenty big , big enough to hold a tournament . Bathrooms up top of the lot . The parks dept. keeps the course mowed pretty good , and the rough and its edges are being worked out . Print a map if you can . I never saw it online , but the navigation isn't bad . Plenty of NEXT TEE signs throughout to keep you on course . . , as the walks here can be long , and you don't want to second guess yourself and have to double back . The course starts at the far end of the parking lot . There are already 2 tees per hole , rubber , but I hear ready to go to cement . Both tees have great signage , with pins , hole # , par , distance and flight path . They are set on a white post for the shorter tee and blue post for the longer tee . There are 2 baskets per hole . The red being the shorter pin and the yellow being the longer placement . This is a great idea , because since each hole has 4 possible hole options , you can progress at your own pace , mixing and matching the tees and the pins . There is a little water with a creek running in and around some of the holes and a small lake on the right of hole 18
. Bring water because you will be here a while . The longs read 7908' but coupled with the walks , you will easily travel 2 miles + . I have now played several courses from World Champion DG Design and come away impressed every time . The elevation is here , nothing drastic , but you can tell .
Lots of tight woods fairways . This Course will test your mettle and your nerves . Plenty of par 4's and even a par 5 (807' hole 15 ) on the course . As challenging as the course is , there is some fun factor here . You WILL get beat up on some of the holes , especially from the longs . If you plan on playing the course more than once in your lifetime , I would suggest playing the shorts first j, just to get your feet underneath you . The spacing is great here . You an sometimes see other groups or individuals on some of the holes , but you won't be able to throw into another fairway . Scenic and normally quiet here . The 18 holes at Palmetto are distinctly different from each other . Lots of risk/reward shots . A good opening hole has you throwing slightly downhill with a fencelinge on your left and a hill on your right , the red pin being on the top of the hill and the yellow hidden at the bottom . #2 is your first par 4 , with the blue tee elevated and disappearing into the woods across a creek . The fairway moves left and up giving you a right or left to either pin . #3 has a bent tree that you will have to negotiate . Stay slight left on the fairway .#8 give you a bit of a rest and tests your accuracy with a short distanced but well placing hole . The red basket sits pin high with both tees and the yellow sits on a hill . # 10 is a water carry but short , with baskets sittin between brush or trees . #11 is a brutal basket placement ( 447' + ) that is pretty much a station to station par 4 . #17 plays straight , but long and narrow at 522' + . If you land left , you will be in deep rough . #18 is a great finishing hole where you might have to negotiate part of the lake to get to the baskets sitting on a slope of the hill leading to the water 378' . Signature Hole : #9 with is an elevate tee shot down into a narrowing fairway . If you land on the left , you may wind up in some deep rough . The right will land you in even deeper rough . The fairway opens up a little , with a tunnel shot at the end , depending on which basket you are throwing at ( 537' from the longs ) . Nice park with little other foot traffic . Great course . Plenty of bridges help .

Cons:

#1 .You better wear your hiking boots or at least some old gym shoes or spikes . There are still some fairways that need clearing , and I almost tripped on several little stumps that were covered by leaves . Also , a long sleeved shirt and jeans might be a good idea , too . ( bug spray ) . The mosquito's can be heavy here . #2 The rough is really rough here . Disc Risk : Since the holes are longer and require you to throw blind sometimes , you can easily lose a disc in it , or even the water on 18 . Taking turns spotting would help . The course needs an online map on DGR .
#3 You will encounter very long walks between some of these holes . Especially from 8 to 9 , walking a bridge and long cement path , and 18 to the parking lot . At least 300 yards to your car . The course can be muddy after a good rain . It will also bring out the worst of the insect world .

Other Thoughts:

For a course less than a year old from when I played it , this is a fantastic course . I have played 69 course in Florida and it already ranks in my top 5 . Humbling if you play the longs like I did , but I was okay with it . You feel a sense of accomplishment whenever you birdie any hole here . A lot of work and money went into Palmetto , and it shows . 22 miles away from here is Hiawatha , and when you combine these 2 , you have a destination play in Central Florida . I call this course Precision With Distance ! You can't go wrong with a course that has 2 tees and 2 baskets with distinct fairways for each . My Recommendation : Not a course for newbies or families , not even from the shorts . Casuals disc junkies and locals to the hard core pros and ams ,should play this wonder . If you are a traveler , Travel Here . Thank You , Lake County Parks & Rec for installing this treasure and also letting me play it . PLAY THIS COURSE !!!!

One Of Florida's Best Courses 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 10, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has been shooting up to the top of the best Florida courses list, and rightfully so. The course is set in a beautiful park with some mid-Florida elevation changes, a wonderful tree canopy, and a scenic lake.

Decent tees, good tee signs, easy navigation with plenty of trailblazer signs set in a mostly dedicated and isolated area. Typical Lake County style two tee/two baskets per hole layout which offers many different ways to play. Sometimes it was really quiet and peaceful and it was super fun to play!

Somewhat rustic with plenty of nature hikes between holes.

Cons:

Mosquito alert. Be warned. There is a high probability that you will be assaulted by mosquitos here!

There is a long walk from hole 18 back to the parking lot (room for a couple of more water holes?).

Other Thoughts:

This course is well-designed charming, and a must-play. This course is a long walk around but does come back by the parking lot on hole 8.

Lake County Florida is now a disc golf destination area with several must-play courses nearby.

Getting better 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 30, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Really lets you get all your shots in one round, is every whole is a little bit different and distances vary. It's a beautiful walk through the woods and because the water is high The Creeks are flowing with a nice sound. They cleared out the t-pad on hole number 3 and added some additional support to 17. they have taken a tractor and mowed most of the fairways except for whole number 3.

Cons:

Whole number 3 still needs to be weed whacked as the whole fairway and green are overgrown by head high weeds, but the rest of the course was well mowed. There were lots of broken glass pieces all over the fairway especially on hole 11 so be careful with pets and improper footwear.

Other Thoughts:

We'll see how hurricane Dorian affects the course in the future, but with regular upkeep and maintenance this could be an awesome place to step up your game and have a tournament. The front nine is much more challenging than the back nine in my opinion, but there is a situation for every shot that I have in my bag. To finish the course on hole 18 over the water it's such a fun and challenging experience and I can't wait to come back after the storm and into the fall when the weather gets nicer.

Great New addition to the LCDGT 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lake County is quickly becoming a Disc Golf powerhouse with the addition of several new courses such as Palmetto Trails.

- Parking area is conveniently located between Hole 1 and the restrooms as well as practice field and practice basket (which is on the way to hole 1.
- Elevation...right off the bat you are treated with a hole 1 that uses the slight elevation benefits of the adjacent field as a nice additional degree of difficulty. Several other holes also use the terrain elevation and incorporate into the course.
- The course is a true 18 hole course with 2 tee pads and 2 baskets per hole allowing for several playable options per hole.
- While this course is in a public park which is a very nice place to walk around the lake or play soccer in the field, the Disc Golf course is out of the way from the activities of the park. The course is primary carved out of the nearby woods surrounding the facility and has its own private feel to it.
- Though being mostly wooded, the course has a lot of diversity in it's 18 holes, I was constantly debating disc preference. I would not say the course design favors any particular thrower...there was a flight option for either BH or FH on most of the holes. There are several true Par 4's and even a Par 5. I particularly really enjoyed the few holes that played over the lake including the final hole. These types of holes in my opinion are the best in the game.
- I was impressed with the restroom facilities on site, they were quite clean and spacious and conveniently located at the entrance of the park as well as on the walk back to the parking area from hole 18.

Cons:

The course is still new obviously so many of the cons will be addressed in the coming months but some are worth stating.

- 85% of this course is located in a pretty dense woods setting with many risk vs reward type of shots. You are mostly shooting a gap of trees and hoping to stay in the center. I would of liked to see a few more holes come out of the woods a bit similar to the 2 I mentioned above. The round was beginning to feel a bit repetitive towards the end with the same scenery.
- The Rough at this course can get pretty painful, both to the body and the scorecard. Thorn bushes are plentiful here as well as jagged branches, stumps, Spiders...etc. Stay in the fairway was the motto of our round.
- There currently are no cement tee pads but they are coming soon.
- There was a lot of litter on the ground unfortunately during our round in places which is not a blame of the course but having some trash cans throughout the course layout (in the woods portion) would help to solve that issue.
- Additional course prep is needed in the fairways to remove some misc branches & tree stumps. There were a few stubbed toes and trips along the way.
- Abundant wildlife...and not so much the good kind. Due to the thick rough on this course, you will be traversing through numerous large Banana Spider webs and be cautious of snakes. We had a number of snake and spider sightings. Bring bug spray as well, the biting critters were present in vast numbers.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, we had very positive post round compliments of this course. I would say Palmetto Trails would not be the best place to come if you are new to Disc Golf. It definitely was created to cater to the more intermediate to experienced golfer. That being said, it certainly has an identity of its own and gave us a very fun & challenging round of golf in a very scenic location.

My current rating is based on current course conditions but I could see the rating improving in the next 6 months to a year once it has time to break in and improve in some of the areas I covered. But, we will definitely be visiting Palmetto Trails again.

Pros:

This is a rustic course on a very scenic piece of land. Any player looking for a good challenge will not be disappointed as this course makes you work for every shot. Most of the course requires a combination of accuracy and power which can be frustrating or rewarding depending on how you are throwing. The majority of the course is wooded and some holes have very narrow fairways. While being wooded, most of the holes are par 4 and at least 350-400 ft from the white tees. All holes have multiple tees and baskets so you could play this course in multiple layouts. There are two holes that play over/near water that are both fantastic. This course will develop into a gem as more work gets put into it and cement pads are poured. The bathrooms were quite nice for a public park if you need to drop some weight before your round.

Cons:

Most of the land has been freshly cleared so there are stumps and debris everywhere. If you go off the fairways you could easily lose a disc and or come into contact with the local residents. (snakes and spiders) Most of the cons to this course are simply because its a work in progress. Hole 1 is located across the field from the parking lot.

Other Thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed my first playthrough of this course. I walked away with a +4 playing white/gold and was not unhappy with that score for a first playthrough. Some of the time I feel like I stepped into some sort of time warp because you will feel like you've played a whole round only to realize that over an hour has gone by and you're not even halfway through the round. It is quite long as well so bring good shoes and plenty to drink. My rating is based on what the course will be after some more work and cement pads. In its current state I would give it a 3.75-4. Thanks to everyone who put work into making this course happen as it is a must play IMO.

Pros:

-Very technical, but attackable layout with multiple "Eagle-proof" par 4's.
- Good signage will guide any player through the course without issue.
- Multiple teepads and baskets on each hole creates multiple playable layouts.
- Course has a great variety of shots.

Cons:

- With the course being new, the rough is still rough if you can stay in the fairway you will be good.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 3, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

18 well-designed holes with dual tees (White & Blue) and dual DISCatcher 28s (Red & Gold/yellow). Each fairway plays 4 different ways at any given time, (72 options) thus catering to various skill-levels.
Clean, modern restrooms. Ample tourney parking. Multi-purpose field by parking lot for warming up. Practice basket on west end of parking, near hole #01.
Most of the course flows very well and has great directional signage, including arrows under many of the pins, and stand-alone 4"x4" posts with arrows to tees. (NavPosts)
Logs outline many of the fairways and transitions for easier navigation.

Cons:

It took longer than expected to begin installing the concrete tee pads. As of 05-03-2020, 27 of 36 tee pads have been poured and are ready for play.
Some minor flow issues from 8 (parking lot) to 9 and a long walk from 18 back to 1.
As of this writing, most hanging vines and bramble piles have been removed, but several large logs and stumps remain.
People sometimes forget which basket they are throwing for. I cannot fault the course for this. Pay attention to which basket you are throwing for (Red or Gold), and you'll be fine.
The sprinkler system may come on mid day (on holes on or around the pond)

Other Thoughts:

Carved from very thick woods, Palmetto Trails dgc was designed specifically to test a tournament-level competitor. Power can help, but the name of the game at Palmetto Trails, is to keep it in the fairways and hit the landing zones when necessary. 11 of the holes have fairly different looks from White to Blue tees. It is this designer's opinion that nearly all fairways @ PT are a fair challenge.
11 of the holes have widely varying pin positions (in height, or different fairways to pins) 11 par 4s. 1 par 5. 72 hole options. (Not including Green tees).
The park's southern border (Getford rd) is centered by a stocked pond surrounded by an asphalt track, which would also allow easy flow for a showcase-round gallery on holes 6-10 & 18.
Hole breakdowns:
#01: (par 3) Blue & White tees along grassy slope. Red pin drops off at steep angle. Gold pin sits low, but flag is visible.
#02: (par 4) Elevated Blue tee into woods tunnel across creek. White tee across bridge. (Will move left & up on mound in phase 2) Narrow fairway opens up, the splits left to Red pin and right to Gold pin.
#03: (par 4) Blue tees under (or over) oaken arch to fairly open fairway. (DO NOT GO RIGHT off the fairway!) White tees from different fairway to left. Tighter inside line to Red pin, outside line to Gold.
#04: (par 4) Blue tee (still needs adjustments) flex a flippy disc for an S-curve. White tee straight to left fade to set up 2nd shot. Red pin moved to right, with Palmetto hazard in front. Gold pin has 3 distinct attack lanes.
#05: (par 4) B&W have a left & right lane option. Right lane is a mid or putter to very specific landing zone, to set up 150-175' finesse approaches to pins. Left lane allows a bit more power to set up slow right turn to Red and right then left to Gold.
#06: (par 3) B&W tee in line, but Red & Gold have completely different fairways.
Red = tight turnover in the woods. Gold= sweeping turnover uphill. (Nasty rough to left on Gold fwy)
#07. (easy par 4) Very quick (but safe) transition from #06 Red to #07 White tee in the woods. Blue tee at NW corner of track, throwing N into woods tunnel to more open landing area. O.B.string on left.
(String will move left into woods more. It is deemed O.B.because this designer didn't want people throwing from the creek, which is managed by a somewhat strict water management board.
Some interestingly angled trees provide nicely framed approach shots. Baskets are stacked on the same pole. (Simply no room for a different quality pin position on this fairway)
#08: (par 3) White tee requires hyzer flip to Red, hyzer window to elevated Gold. Aggressive attack on Gold will likely park Red, with long, uphill return. Blue tee requires 'S-hook' flex to Red, tall turn-over in woods to elevated Gold. Blue to Gold is actually the shortest of the 4 options on #08.
#09: (par 4) Walk from #08 & parking, west across bridge to track (clockwise) past 7 & 6 to #09 Blue tee.
B tees from near track downward into woods into one of 2 lanes going right. Walk past Blue tee to palms, the left & down into woods for the White tee, where they can also shoot for 1 of 2 lanes.
Red pin is ahead to left, Gold ahead to right.
#10: (par 3) Temp tees are on flat ground throwing near the NE corner of the pond. White does not have to carry water to Red pin. White to Gold carries a bit of water. Blue to Red can stay over land on a flick to Red, but a RHBH can get you to Red or Gold. The pins are on a very steep grade, which can cause rollaways. (We hope to place large poles at lake's edge to prevent rollaways to water (O.B.)
#11: (par 4) B&W are stacked on RH hyzer line, but have different looks to the LH hyzer line. Left lane aligns with Red pin. Right lane aligns with Gold pin.
#12: (par 4) Blue tee requires a slight L-R flex shot to the LZ. White tee has 2 lanes turning right to LZ.
Left side is clear to both pins. Right side is "Scramble-ville") has several options to pins that will change, depending upon where you land.
#13: (par 4) Moderately open fairway in the woods to LZ. Red pin down fairway to Right. Gold pin has several approaches to left, fading a bit right. Red pin also has a back-door alley for those that blow past the main entrance.
#14: (par 3) Short wooded fairways Blue to left, White to right. W-R=easy slow turn mid or putter. W-G= L to R flex back. B-R= arching wooded turnover. B-G= tight gap neutral hyzer.
#15 (par 5) Blue RH turnover out of tunnel, clearing then back into woods. White tee is just outside tunnel. A solid LZ landing is near the Green tee. 2nd shot navigates tight left turn to clearing. Left and long of the island of trees will give you a straight shot to the Red pin. But if you stay right, to make the hard right turn, you might turn too early into the woods. Gold pin approaches through horizontal oak branches, forcing you to pick an approach height. (Scenic!)
#16: (par 4) Blue requires slow left turn RH hyzer flip or anny flick to LZ on Gold fairway. An accurate hyzer flick will get you on the Red Fairway. A RHBHr may also turn one over into the Red fairway, but may also throw into the Gold fairway, which allows a throw onto the Red, in the early stages.
The Red fairway also allows a shorter, but much tighter, route to the Gold pin.
#17: (par 4) Dead straight fairway. The left side of the fairway can eat discs rather easily. Red to right. Gold straight ahead.
#18: (par 3) At the SE corner of the pond. White tee (crosses track) doesn't have to carry water, but can.
Blue tee must carry water to Red pin. Must carry more water to Gold pin.
A set of 3 cypress trees divide the line between the Red & Gold.

Final synopsis: I feel that Palmetto Trails dgc will become 'the course to beat'. PT's 72 fairway options will allow you to pick & choose whatever sort of game you want to play.
