Good for beginner/intermediates 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 15, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Wide open layout. Well marked course. Two pads for each hole. Some tree holes on the front 9 and a hilly layout on the back 9. Hard to lose a disc.

Cons:

Still new to disc golf, so I'm not sure. Can get a bit crowded/congested?

Other Thoughts:

Still pretty new to disc golf. This course is very close to my house. Of the four courses nearby, this is my favorite. A great course for beginner to intermediates. I wonder if experts would get bored here.

Pros:

The course is set up on the sprawling grounds of a church. The course stays well away from any other activities. There are 2 concrete tee pads on every hole. These are all nice sized and grip well. The baskets are DISCatchers that are all in excellent shape and catch great. Each also has a next hole arrow attached to the pole. The tee signs here are also well done. They all have a nice map of the hole layout, hole #, par, any applicable OB, both tee positions and distances for each set of tees. Great job with these. The flow from hole to hole is very intuitive too, making for a pretty hassle free, seamless flow. There is a pretty decent amount of elevation here that is used very well. The first section of the course delves into a more wooded area with the latter being more open with scattered trees. This helps make it a well rounded round. The wind will be your main adversary on the more open holes. The grounds were in immaculate shape when we were there. Mowed to perfection and not a lick of trash to be seen. This probably isn't going to be the busiest course around but there were a couple other groups out on a Wednesday afternoon. The course is free and permanent (donations are accepted).

Cons:

There's not much for cons here. There's not any bomber type holes if that's your thing. The distances are all on the shorter end of the spectrum. Other than that not much I can come up with.

Other Thoughts:

I was pleasantly surprised with this course. I wasn't really expecting much with it being at a church but wow was I wrong. This course was designed superbly with the available land. Not worth a long drive out of your way to play but if you're anywhere near here it's definitely worth a stop. This is a great place for beginners but even more experienced players should enjoy it.

Solid course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 21, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Makes good use of the terrain
Requires multiple types of shots
Easy for beginners from the amateur tees
Clear signage, with next tee arrows below baskets
It would be hard to lose your disc on this course
Dual grippy concrete tees on every hole

Cons:

Some holes seem too easy
Some holes could use a few extra trees

Other Thoughts:

This course is good, but I think planting some strategic trees here and there could make it better. Also, a couple of the next tee arrows below the baskets were pointing in the wrong direction, so that was confusing.

Hills and variety 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 1, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Baskets - 18 grippy Innova Discatchers. Two different possible locations per hole. The pin positions only truly change the hole on a few holes, 3 and 4 off the top my head.

Signs - great signs that include map, distance, and par.

Tees - mix of natural and concrete tees. Mostly natural. Two tees per hole (pro and am).

Variety: a few blind shots due to elevation or trees, short holes with obstacles, several mature trees on back 9, long open holes, rolling hills, wooded holes, tunnel shots, elevation, and one hole with a water hazard.

Elevation: the most elevation in a central Indiana course (not counting Frankfort or Knightstown). Rolling hills, flat holes, major uphill shots, and long downhill shots.

Course is in two 9 hole loops. Each loop feels like a separate 9 hole course different than the other. Could play front 9 or back 9 only if short on time. Front 9 is a mix of wooded (3, 4, and start of 5) to long and open (6-8) with slight elevation (1, 5, 9). The back 9 is much more hilly. Each hole has some sort of elevation change.

Course is well maintained.

Course is easy to get to and is a nice part of town. Many nearby courses.

Pro shop on site.

Cons:

No practice basket.

Mix of tees takes away from unity of course. If this course had all concrete tees, it would be much better but might interfere with cross country path.

Course crosses a cross country path several times, holes 6-8 go around a soccer/football field and can be unplayable at times, and hole 15 goes near a softball field.

Natural tees are marked with red and blue circles that can be hard to find if grass is longer. If they had raised stones, it would make it that much less of a hassle.

Long walk between holes 9 and 10. Shortest path crosses fairway for hole 1.

Minimal trash cans and benches.

Other Thoughts:

This course was and is a great addition to the disc golf world in Indy. It's more of an intermediate course that is doable for beginners but wouldn't be too challenging for professionals.

It needs more concrete pads and a few more trees. Slowly but surely concrete pads have been replacing natural pads on the back 9.

If it is too easy, Hazel Landing is right down the road. If it is too hard, play Dillion Park or Lawrence Inlow park.

I would recommend, end this course to anybody in the area or to any beginner/intermediate players looking for a new challenge. Many of the holes are too short for pro players. I have never had a bad experience here.

The Hill 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 9, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The grass outline of the tees help to find the markers, but hard to see in the grass. There are signs/maps showing where to go throughout the course. Nice local relaxing course.

Cons:

The colored markers are very hard to see in the grass, because there is no concrete boxes.

Other Thoughts:

The course is on a church property so there is normally always activity going on around the course

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 12, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Signage is very good, arrows on each pin guiding you where the next tee box is. The course is very well taken care of, shop on the grounds is excellent as well. Very open and slightly wooded. It's very good to get some exercise as well, the map of the course layout is very very good as well as coming equipped with score cards.

Cons:

Even though the outline of tee's are raised grass, the blue tee's are quite the pain to find. Spent quite sometime trying to find each blues and I've been playing here since April'ish of 12. A friend and I stopped looking for blue tees after 12. Some concrete pads there would be rather refreshing. Also, no trash cans during course play.

Other Thoughts:

I'm no pro mind you, but it's a very fun par 3 course. I enjoy the sun and the walk out there. After only playing disc golf for a few months, but quickly learning - the Hill is close by and fun. Few things could really make this very enjoyable for other newbies like myself.

Long but Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This was the first course I played. It's a long course that plays even longer in the wind. Lots of elevation changes and fairly wide open.

Cons:

The grass tees are okay but it's hard to find the tee markers in the ground. Would be nice to upgrade to concrete. The wind can make it almost impossible to score well. For first timers it can be hard to find the 2nd tee. Luckily I had a group in front of me that I was able to follow.

Other Thoughts:

The course has a cross country trail through it so watch out for runners. Also, there is a softball field near one basket on the back nine. Usually not an issue unless you are way off on your throw. Be prepared to walk up and down hills.

Great 18 Hole Park Bring your Arm and Legs 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 9, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great Signage on the course. Tees are small markers in the grass however they cut the grass to leave a high line of grass around the tee markers and marking the 30 foot putting range from the basket. Nice well maintained multi use facility.

Cons:

Very Minor Con: some more signs in parking areas pointing to start of course.
The signs could use a little better indicators of where the sign post is in relation to the
tee pad markers. Also there could be a little clearer indication on each hole as to which
basket position is currently being used.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 1 Opening throw down thru a couple trees guarding against high shots.

Hole 2 Up and over the hill just out of sight and slightly to the left.

Hole 3 Short throw down clean fairway lined with trees to a basket slightly to the left and guarded by trees.

Hole 4 Another short throw past some trees guarding the midpoint, slightly to the left.

Hole 5 Downward throw thru and alley of trees and to the left.

Hole 6 Distance throw across the open field, pretty standard and level.

Hole 7 slight uphill throw with basket tucked behind some trees.

Hole 8 Open field throw slightly uphill.

Hole 9 Little more advanced over crest of hill and down behind a tree. Across a little water.

Hole 10 Hike up the Hill and throw down and to the left, Couple trees at midpoint.

Hole 11 Throw back up the hill, clear with no trees in the way.

Hole 12 Back down the hill, guarded by a small group of trees midway.

Hole 13 Throwing thru the evergreens to a hidden basket in the middle of a group of evergreens.

Hole 14 Field Shot.

Hole 15 Downhill throw into open field.

hole 16 Throw past a row of trees and slightly to the right.

Hole 17 Toss back up hill, technical shot to a basket tucked tight behind an old tree.

Hole 18 Last uphill shot around a bushy tree at the midway point.

I Will defiantly play this course again if given the chance. It requires a lot of walking and gives some good tree lined shots to challenge a newer player. More experience players can work on their distance shots
here but may not find as much of a challenge. All the nice people we met that day played from the red tee box. Given how much time we spent looking for the blue tee box I can understand why.

A Great New Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 5, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

There are several types of holes, whether going uphill downhill, out in the open, or in the trees, which will test all of your disc golf abilities. I live close to it, and I think it is a fantastic addition to the Indianapolis area. It is easily accessible to the public and adds good variety to the courses in the area because of the unique scenarios you will be faced with. I always have a great time going there, and it always gives me a good challenge.

Cons:

There are no concrete tee pads, so if the ground is wet, expect to slip on your tee shots. Along with that, I think that the red tees are too easy, and the blue tees are too hard, and requires a lot more skill to go from the red tees to the blue tees than Dillon Park, which is just down the road. When on top of the hill, do not mistake a pin for another hole as the pin for the hole you are on. Lastly, although there are different looking holes, a lot of them are very far, and that can get boring and tiring after a while.

Other Thoughts:

It is less than 2 miles down the road from Dr. James A. Dillon Park so it is easy to do both courses in 1 day very easily. Also, the walk from #9 to #10 is long and uphill, but that is just me complaining because I'm lazy.

Classic Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 24, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

There is so much varitey on the course from shots in the woods to long open holes. The baskets are new and in amazing shape and the grounds are groomed perfectly. Each pin is surronded by a "putting circle" similar to a green in ball golf. The course has several changes in elevation ranging from long downhill shots along with raging uphill holes. The course offers two tees, red and blue, and two pin positions a and b. There are bathrooms on the 1st and 14th holes. There are maps posted on a pole at every red tee box and signs are present throughout the course to direct you along.

Cons:

The major con to the course is that there is no concrete tee pads. Some people enjoy the grass tee pads which are marked by two minis staked into the ground but of course most of us want concrete tees. The walk from hole 4 to 5 and from 9 to 10 could be a bit confusing on your first round and from 16 to 17 you have to backtrack quite a long way. Some holes seem to be designed a bit lazy but this does offer much variety.

Other Thoughts:

All in all Northview is a great course. Park near the big building int he back with the orange palm trees and look at the large map to find the first tee off to the left. There is a cross country course that runs near several holes so look out for the runners.

Fun new course in Carmel. Bring your walking shoes, you'll need them. Lots of elevation and big arms will come in handy on this one.

Cons:

Not a ton of variety.

Other Thoughts:

Worth the drive over to Carmel to play. It's at a church so check their schedule of events. Friendly atmosphere. Great area of town.

One of the most diverse in Central Indiana 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a great new course that should only get better with time! Plays up and down some of the most varied rolling hills in the area. Several of the first 4-5 holes are fairly short holes, favoring shot placement over power, with baskets placed among strategically placed trees. The back 9 is more open, but still plays short enough for a beginner or an average arm to be successful. The grass tees are in great shape, time will tell how they'll hold up to constant traffic. All in all, this has quickly become one of my favorite courses within an hour drive for me!

Cons:

Signage isn't always clear, mainly on the wooded holes where the next tee is not visible. Initially threw at basket #9 from the first tee, instead of basket #1. Once we got started, we didn't have too much trouble. The walk from #9 to the #10 tee can easily cross the fairway for #1, so be careful.
