Hard to Improve Upon What Others Said 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 21, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- practice basket
- benches at every hole, garbage cans at some
- nice concrete tees and hole signs
- best course navigation I've seen
- wooded technical challenge on almost every hole
- beautiful scenery playing next to lake
- very reasonable undergrowth

Cons:

- baskets mounted low
- entry fee
- no elevation change
- a few holes may be very challenging for beginners

Other Thoughts:

The Memory is a disc golf course in Clear Lake State Park. This is a beautiful course I really enjoyed which plays along Clear Lake (which, true to its name, is incredibly clear). Given how rare disc golf courses are in the northern reaches of Michigan, I wasn't expecting such a nice course. I had a great time here and would absolutely come back.

Navigation on this course is close to the best I've seen with gravel paths from each tee down the fairway to the basket and on to the next tee. It's a little unconventional but very straightforward and also ADA accessible which is cool. The downside is there is virtually no elevation change.

The course is technically challenging but not to the extent where I couldn't see beginners enjoying it too. While it plays very close to the lake on a few holes I think the risk of losing discs is minimal. The rough is very minimal under the pine tree canopy and this added to the enjoyment.

I definitely hit some trees but also hit some nice lines forced by the course. It's the perfect course for this state park and doesn't intrude upon the natural beauty. I also saw a frog and a toad which was neat.

The tees are concrete which was an unexpected plus here and the tee signs are also very good. The baskets are just ok, and I had a shoot through or two on the warmup basket (another plus especially for a 9 hole) but they seemed fine.

I would love to see how someone makes a full drive on Hole 7 which has a crazy S bend. I certainly don't know how to pull off a line that extreme. The forest floor being free of debris does help with rollers to get out of trouble.

My main gripe was the baskets seemed to be mounted rather low for some reason. I also noticed the hole signs listed distances in yards but they were clearly the distances in feet. Not a big deal but it was odd they got printed that way. Holes 2-8 mostly play through the woods which I enjoyed a lot. The distances are on the short side but obstacles make it challenging anyway. The last couple open up and are significantly longer. You do have to pay $9 to get into the state park for the day but it's well worth it. The beach on the lake is adjacent to the course and my family swam while I played disc golf and then I joined them.

Each hole also has a bench and a few have garbage cans. You can tell effort was put into this course. There is also a map on an info board at the beginning of the course.

Agree with other reviewers comments. In addition, the course is maintained very well.

Cons:

Very flat.

Other Thoughts:

Admittedly I have little additional to offer in terms of a review, mostly attesting to accuracy of other reviewers comments.
