Good Grounds - Bad Layout 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 24, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Friendly staff who greated me in the office and made a copy of a map of the course so I knew where everything was.

Well maintained camp grounds which was very pleasing to walk around.

A functioning pop machine for a drink before you get started on Hole 1.

Challenging shots on a few of the holes which challenged you to avoid trees and waters.

Cons:

Most of the holes had you throwing over roads, at buildings, or near cars which had me on edge most of the time.

Some of the holes were placed in bad locations like hole 2 which has you throwing a tomahawk at the office building across a small lake/pond over a road. This hole tee should be moved over by the parking area to change the flight path so you are not throwing at the office building.

Hole 4 is to close to barbed wire and unmaintained ground with large undergrowth which is infested with TICs. This basket should be moved.

Holes 2, 3, 5, 6, and 9 all have you throwing over roads which should be rethought and moved.

The teepad on hole 4 has branches hanging down almost to the ground right where the teepad should be. This should be addressed by the grounds keepers.

Other Thoughts:

Nice course with nice people and a beautiful camp ground but poorly executed in plan and not worth going out of your way for at all.

This one's for the Happy Campers 2+ years

Pros:

This course is well maintained and located on a Christian campground. There are two really fun holes. #2 makes you throw over tall trees, a bridge, the tall entrance sign, and a narrow part of the lake all on the tee shot! With a high but not long hyzer slant, you could hole this one out. #8 is a left to right and then dogleg left tunnel shot that was kind of interesting. All the signs were fine. They had restrooms and there were trashcans by the many pavilions.

Cons:

Many of the holes are forcing you to cross the roads or even play the entire hole over them. Your disc may incur some road rash here. If there were people at this park, safety could be a factor. I was the only one here, so it was bombs away. One of the tees was crowded to a shrub.

Other Thoughts:

The fun factor was only evident on 2 holes and disc damage was a major concern on choice of shots. You do have to avoid vehicles too. Overall, this course was obviously designed for the non-disc golfer. It was designed for the campers and may get them involved in the sport.
