Pros:
I'm trying to think positively. I had the course all to myself on a beautiful May morning. And there were 20 holes. And I didn't lose any discs. At least with the yellow bands on the holes, I could see where the baskets were. When I pulled in and saw the baskets for the back nine out in the field, my heart sank because I thought it was going to be dumb back and forth across the field, but the holes all played in the transition between field and trees: from field into tree & from trees into field, so were more interesting.
Cons:
As I said, it was in sad shape. I don't think it's seen any maintenance since the 2017 review. There was no kiosk or map, so I was playing it blind. There were tee "areas." The carpet was torn up in a lot of cases, so threw from beside the tee. The tee signs were so faded as to be useless. The course has seen so little traffic lately that there wasn't a burned-in walking route. The grass was cut out on the field, but not so in the woods. I ran into a total dead end at hole 8. Huge fallen tree blocking the way and ankle-deep swamp on either side. After 10 minutes, I gave up and was going on to 10 when I saw a tee post off to the side. The holes in the back 9 were hillier and more interesting, but figuring out where to go was often a challenge.
Other Thoughts:
A caving friend of mine says "Every cave is worth visiting - once" I won't make the drive from Huntsville for this one again.
