If this is what it's like to play disc golf in FL, anyone that likes this would love playing in New England, it's almost a different game. I craved being able to throw down or up a hill and also not have to worry so much about palm trees.

Short, quirky course with fun shots and great scenery. There's a great feel with a sort of jungle vibe going on for the inland shots and the bay looming in the background on more than a few. There's a ton of low scrub and the best holes here force you to throw over it. I'm thinking of sixteen in particular, where a long straight shot to the basket is interrupted by a significant clump of vegetation. They make for interesting challenges as the common at a few other Florida courses, they aren't the type of obstacles that make up most disc golf courses. They offer a unique type of risk/reward shots that sixteen, as mentioned above, typifies. That long straight shot can be played right up to the block. From there its a short approach shot over the scrub and to a now-visible basket for a fairly-easy three. But to go for birdie, the initial throw needs to go over that vegetation and into a small target area that can't be seen from the tee.

There's a bunch of cool shots that could be a good intermediate-level course if the issues were fixed up. For locals, most of them won't be a problem as it's the type of course that once memorized, plays a lot better. I could see it having strong, everyday-play quality as it isn't too taxing and there is a decent variety with hole sthat play to different lengths, lines and angles.

The cons aren't all related to the amenities. There are a few holes that are just no fun. I'm speaking particularly of 7. There is no fairway, just a narrow walkway. You essentially have to carry the scrub, but since its vegetation and not water, you can see where you are trying to land it. So its essentially a short carry to a small island but you have a blindfold on.

The other thing is that it doesn't really play to an ability level. It's not an advanced course, there is not much challenge here. At the same time, it's not really for beginner either with the really rough shule. Veterans will easily avoid the scrub and be left wanting more; new players will constantly end up searching for discs in the rough stuff.

Nice, fun, pleasant. High in potential. But for visitors, the flow and navigation keep it from being a must-play if time is at a premium.

Walking paths and roads are out of bounds, but frequently in play on the different holes.
Map at the beginning of the course is out of date, since hole 6 has been split in two and all other holes after that have changed number since the original 18 was eliminated.

Birdie opportunities seem to be on the front nine mostly, and not so much on the back nine. Many holes are blind shots over brush (and poor maps make this hard for a 1st time on the course.)

Limited fairway on 3 (open area being a road, which is out of bounds.) Holes 1 & 8 are essentially blind shots, with a cross your fingers and hope you can find your disc feel to them. 18 (the current 18) is thickly wooded with a water hazard (mud right now) in front of the basket.

I played in the dry season, so water was not an issue on 18.

Let me start out with the biggest pro of this course; This is the single prettiest disc golf course that I have ever had the privilege to step foot on. The trees were amazing. There was a constant canopy of palms. The palmettos were beautiful and brutal.The views by the water and the observation tower were stunning. Hole 17 and 18 are like playing through a deserted island. I mean it, this place is gorgeous.

There are two pads on most of the holes. I think that some of them had one concrete and one dirt pad, but there were always options. One of the holes had you teeing off from a walking path. While less than great, at least it was something,

The baskets caught well and seemed to be in very good shape. I never had anything ring out on me or bounce up.

There are benches at a few of the holes. And there are ample amounts of trashcans and the like.

Really neat use of the natural terrain, which makes for some super cool shots out there. One that comes to mind is #5, which is one of the longer holes on the course, and the basket is surrounded by out of bounds, with LOADS of trees and brush from pad to basket.

There are signs most of the time.

Since I started with the biggest pro, I will also hit the biggest con; navigation. One through four - easy enough to find. Honestly, you might never find 5. Come off of fours basket, hook a hard right, go down a hill, through the fairway of 18, over a long footbridge and take your first left. If you try and go all the way down the bridge, I think you end up in Missouri. Not sure. There is then no sign for six. This is the hole where you tee off from the walking path. I guess. Seven is then across the entrance to the park, across a couple of roads, and down a windy path to a blind pin. 8 may or may not exist. 9 definitely doesn't exist. you have to throw off what is marked as "18" to 9, but it's marked as 8B's basket. Yeah, a tiny bit confusing. There is just no natural flow to the course either for the most part. Switch backs and trying to find he next hole and...you get it.

There are signs most of the time. However, they mark none of the danger. They generally aren't very close to where the pin actually is.. And really, a lot of them are just hard to read. on a course like this, where most of the pins are hidden, you have to have good signage. This course fails there.

There are a couple of shots on this course that I would call unsafe. Three comes to mind. You HAVE to throw out over a road, on a blind shot, towards a very busy parking lot. Cars could be coming, or people could be walking, and then you need to walk in the road to get to the pin. This is a big one for me. There is enough space in this park that this should never happen. But it happens on a couple of occasions. Throwing over multiple roads, being forced to walk on the road, and crossing over other fairways to get to other tee stations.

This is a beautiful course and it has a lot of potential. But until the navigation and safety issues get squared away, I don't know how people can rate this higher than 3. I am going to give it a 2.5. If I knocked half a point off for every time I heard "fore", this rating would be a negative 12.
Safety is paramount, and I don't feel like you are totally safe on this course.
