Pros:

Though I am going to talk a lot about the Pros of this course, there are one or two cons that take the rating way, way down for me. So please keep in mind that I am trying to be as objective as possible. And as the folks from DGCR remind us in the rating suggestions area, "Not every course deserves a high rating."
That said, let's talk about the good things.

Baskets - Spiderweb 3 baskets. Though not my favorite target, these do catch fine and they are newer. I like the blue paint job also.

Pads - two sets of concrete pads. The short pads sit near the signs, and the long pads have all of the information for the holes painted into them. This is actually a super good idea and I like how big these pads are. Though the longs don't add that much difference to the course, they are there and offer a chance to play 18 holes on 9 baskets. So pretty cool.

shots - if you play the walking paths, fields, ball diamonds, play grounds, and residential areas as out of bounds, this course can be as hard as any you've ever played. There is a good variety of shots too. Hole 6 felt like the signature hole to me. A neat, long, tunnel shot that plays through some beautiful trees. The individual holes are interesting and require a lot of technical skill to stay in bounds.

signs - perfect. These are the gold standard of signs. I don't know where these were made, but they should be at every course. Each pin and tee pad are clearly marked, and the signs are big enough to be able to see everything. Love these signs!

x factors - there a beautiful course map when you start at hole 1. This was very helpful in getting us started.
The shots toward the water tower are neat.

Cons:

Two things that drag this course way down. And while not the courses fault, they are things...so...

The park - There is no way that you could use this course if there are people playing baseball or walking out there. Two of the holes throw by the outfield fence. One of them uses the baseball diamond as an on obstacle. All of the holes have the walking path coming in to play. Which, why cool for the disc golf shot, is a problem if someone is walking. One of the holes throws at a picnic shelter/playground. You aren't playing that hole if someone is up there. Another hole plays about 10 feet from a main road. Holes 7 and 8 play up against a residential area, and one of those houses has several dogs that REALLY want to chew your face off. Overall, the course feels crammed into too small of an area. I get it. They were working with what they had. But at the end of the day, they had to shove 10 acres of course into a 4 acre area.

the flow was...weird. While a small area, I am not sure I understand a couple of the choices for where the course went, if that makes sense. you have to double back a couple of times, and you have to cross over other fairways to get to holes. It felt like they could have made hole 3 where 7 is now, and that would have made it a natural circle around the park. And it would have kept you from having to walk across other fairways. And this seemed like an obvious design flaw to me.

Other Thoughts:

At the end of the day, this is a disc golf course that simply suffers from the space they put it into. If the park is empty, then you are fine. Play away and enjoy the course (just don't throw it in someone's yard, or the road. which is crazy easy to do).
But if there is a car anywhere on the course, or another person playing, or a kid on a playground, or anything along those lines, the course becomes virtually unplayable. And because of that, unfortunately, I have to rate this course as just "decent".

Looks can be deceiving 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 21, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

*Nice sign and map at start of course
*Nice teesigns
*Concrete pads
*Great baskets
*Nice variety of lefty/righty holes
*Elevated hanging basket
*Two tee pads per hole
*Multiple basket positions
*Navigational signs under baskets
*Decent variety on length if you play both tees
*Low chance of losing discs unless terribly thrown
*Playground equipment in 3 different areas for the little kids (does not come into play)
*Just 5 minutes off of I-69
*Restrooms available near ball diamonds (closed in winter...mid Nov thru mid March

Cons:

*Flat terrain
*Can be soggy for some time after a good rain
*No benches
*A few long walks between holes
*A little cramped for space with fairways close to each other
*Some holes may be unplayable when cars park in the fairways for ball games

Other Thoughts:

This course can be as easy or difficult as you want it to be. When you pull into the park, you will notice it is a small park and will think it will be a pitch and putt course. This is not the case at all. It is not a bomber course by any means, but it offers more than a pitch and putt.

The layout is a bit different with holes grouped in different sections of the park.......

Holes 1 and 2 go around the tennis courts (these holes were necessary in order to have a complete 9 hole course). Not ideal with narrow fairways bordered by fences and fields, but not neccessarily long either. Hole 2 features an "island green" defined by the road and fence. Refer to special instructions on the tee sign.

Holes 3-5 are sectioned together near the water tower. Using the road and walking path as OB, the fairways are separated.

Hole 6 is in the middle section of the park with a nice tunnel shot from the tee.

Hole 7 and 8 share a section of the park where residential areas and the park road create another boundry. Hole 8 features a hanging basket (unique) which is also elevated just a bit for a different taste. It is intended to be that way.

And hole 9 plays again in the center section, shooting to the opposite corner of 6's basket location, keeping the fairways separate.

With two tees per hole and 2 basket locations per hole, there is a decent amount of variety (especially for a 9 hole course).

Anyone can come out to this course and shoot a decent round if you don't play OB. But play as the signs suggest with all OB and the course can be a challenge to the newer players and even the experienced.

For what it is and how much space is allowed, I really enjoy this course.

This park is never to busy with walkers or other park users. However, during the summer months during baseball season, people park along the ball field fence and in hole 7's fairway. Also, the baskets are pulled every year during the town festival around July 4th for the fireworks.

Play this course with an open mind. Be open to throwing around a tennis court and over the ball diamond fence. Play according to the tee signs with roads and walking paths as Out of Bounds. These things were necessary when designing the course so that the course could fit. It is definitely something different, but can still be a challenge to many different skilled players.

Small Town Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete tees
Nice new baskets
Good course map
Good signs

Cons:

Hanging basket height is much too high
Extremely narrow fairways on a couple holes
Tee pad size is a little small
Lots of walking across other holes

Other Thoughts:

All in all not a bad course for what it is. Definitely used the space well but unfortunately there's not a lot of space to use. It'd be very hard to play this course if the park was being used by other events. Holes next to the basketball courts and baseball fields have very narrow fairways if the corn is up. Hanging basket is cool but the height is way too high compared to standard basket height. Baskets are nicely painted and very easy to see. Good for beginners but intermediate and advanced players would likely want more of a challenge.

Samuel Jones Disc Golf Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 21, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

*Brand new concrete teepads
*New Spider baskets
*A few really good holes
*A beginner course in an extremely small town in the middle of nowhere right off interstate
*Great signage
*Amazing course map and kiosk
*Hanging basket on hole 8
*Hole 5 plays next to the water tower. Can't think of another course that has that.

Cons:

*Hole 1 plays down a walking path with a 10" wide fairway for 200' between a tennis court fence and farm field. May not be playable when the corn is up.
*Hole 2 is another 10' wide fairway down a gravel road between the other side of the tennis court fence and a baseball field fence.
*Crossed 5's fairway in front of the basket from 4 to 5.
*Hole 9's fairway is the park road. Nothing on the sign saying there's a mando keeping you from taking the park road

Other Thoughts:

There's a gravestone behind 6 and 9's tees: Samuel Jones I think it was. Pretty nice touch of history on a disc golf course!

Great course to stretch the legs while traveling I-69. Worth playing to play holes 5, 6, and 7.

It's great that a small town is willing to support disc golf. Not sure if multiple tee pads and pin locations are needed here.

Challenging Small Town Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very challenging beginner to intermediate level 9 hole course. Course is set in a small Northeastern Indiana town. Regardless of skill level, course will make you better.

Baskets - 9 band new Spiderweb 3 baskets that catch great. Baskets are painted silver and blue which look really nice. There are two pin positions per hole and baskets rotate. Hole 8 only has one pin position and it is a hanging basket.

Signs - Signs were fantastic. Signs were located at the AM (short) tee locations and included detailed pictures of holes including tees, both basket location, distances to each, next hole arrows, and sponsors. Both basket locations had a 2x2 paver in the ground pointing you towards the next tee (course navigation can be confusing so it helps). There is also a 2 sided bulletin board that had tons of info on disc golf including locations of other courses, descriptions of different discs, course maps. Had it all.

Tees - Each hole had 2 concrete tee pads (AM and pro). Hole 1 AM tee is on walking path and is clearly marked. Tees are easy to locate. There is a major difference between the AM tees and the pro tees which is amazing. Pro tees much more challenging.

Variety - Distances range from 160ft from the short tees to 360 feet from the long tees. All holes have obstacles to go around, mostly trees. Some obstacles include navigating between baseball and basketball field (tight fairway and has a drop zone), a corn/soybean field, and the water tower. The trees here are in the right place to make the holes more challenging. All holes are flat.

4 playgrounds, benches, and trash cans on site.

Course was easy to get to from the highway from either direction. Convenient stores nearby to buy drinks and snacks.

Walking under the water tower was pretty cool.

Great use of land. Used everything available.

Cons:

Navigation was a bit odd (see map). Felt as I was going in circles. Some walks to next holes come close to baskets and in a few cases cross other hole's fairways. Signs definitely helped!

Pro tees could use a set of signs or hole numbers on or near the tees.

Hole 2 has about a 10 foot wide fairway which is a gravel path going between baseball field and basketball courts which are out of bounds (see map). Hole is closed during baseball games. Area called drop zone gives hole an island hole feel. May be too tough for new players. Hole 2 felt like a filler hole to get back to main part of park.

Houses bordering hole 7 all have fences. Had to jump one to get a disc (hate to trespass).

During baseball, hole 2 (both tees) and hole 7 (pro tee) are unplayable. Takes away from course.

Tees were a bit short.

Some small amounts of poison ivy around trees.

Other Thoughts:

This was a great course. I was not disappointed. For a 9 hole corse that is flat, it was very challenging. I will definitely be back if I travel north again. It was better than some of the Indy area courses.

There is not much that can be done to improve this corse. Great use of land, tons of signs to help navigation, two tees per hole, two pin placements, unique shots (2, 5, 8).

I would definitely recommend this course to anyone traveling on I-69. It's not too far from the highway and it will make you better. Hanging baskets are always a plus.

Nice little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 3, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great little course that is only 20 minutes from Huntington where there are at least 2 more courses.

The fact that there are two basket pins gives the course some nice variety. All the holes were in the A position when I played but that didn't detract from what I thought gave the course difficulty.
I played when there was nobody there so it was nice and quiet except for the wind.
Most holes need a good solid drive, but after that it is easy to par.

Cons:

Lots of out of bounds which can make the course difficult.

Couldn't find the red tee box for hole #2, but this will most likely be fixed once the concrete tees are put in.

Other Thoughts:

Nice Par 3 course. Little difficult with wind and having the pins in the longer locations. I can't wait to go back and give it another go.
