Pros:

Trollwood park disc golf course plays in a mostly disc golf exclusive part of the park. A basketball court and walking trail can come into play on a handful of holes. If you're careful it's not a problem though.

The baskets are "Frolfware" baskets I guess. Never heard of them. I'd be willing to bet they're homemade somewhere local. Anyhow they aren't half bad. Not great by any means, but not bad. They catch decent and the cages and tops are painted yellow which makes them easy to spot. I've seen much worse.

The tee pads are nice flared concrete. These are all pretty level and grippy. Plenty big enough as well. Well done with these. One tee per hole.

The flow of the course is a little wonky in spots. By sure to check the map beforehand or have one up on your phone. It can be done without one but you'll spend extra time wandering around.

Good use of the available land. The course is tucked along the Red river with the last 3 holes playing along it, more so on holes 16 and 17. Hole 16 is a tight, pretty low tunnel shot where an errant shot or bad kick might send you into the river. 17 is less daunting, but it could happen on there as well.

The tee signs are 4x4's about 5 feet tall with cut out metal signs with the hole #, distance and a simple directional arrow pointing toward the basket. Pretty simple but serviceable and better than nothing.

The wind was wicked when we were here. This made the course play much harder than it looked. It says on the home page that it's always windy and from my 1 round here I believe them. Quite a bit of elevation change throughout. More toward the beginning and the end but there are lots of undulations with potential rollaways present throughout. Good mix of challenges present for a city park course.

Cons:

The flow of the course is pretty goofy in a couple spots. We missed hole 10 on accident and had to backtrack after playing 11. Even with a map.

A few of the holes play very close to each other, posing a potential safety hazard if the course is busy. Most notably holes 8, 9 and 10. Holes 2 and 17 are also pretty close and semi blind from 2's tee.

Not sure about the accuracy of all the distances on the signs. Quite a few seemed off by anywhere from 20 to 50 feet. Maybe it was just me but they seemed off. Not a huge deal anyway since every basket but holes 2 and 6 are visible from the tee.

Other Thoughts:

This course was better than I was expecting going into it. It's probably not quite a 3 but I feel it's better than decent/typical. Without the wooded holes it's a 2.5 all day. So I'll give it the benefit of the doubt with a 3. Not a destination course by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Pairs well with Oak Grove for a solid, if unspectacular day of golf. Solid course.

A diamond that looks rough 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 7, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

3 1/4 discs. Better than just good but not quite very good.

We first pulled up and looked at the course and went to play somewhere else. It just didn't look like much. It's at the end of a road that runs through a neighborhood and seemed out of place. But we persevered and played it and found it to be a lot of fun.
1) Tee pads are concrete and flat and give good grip.
2) All holes have at least one viable line. With one exception, all are birdie-able and several are nice ace runs. My son almost scored one on one hole- wind carried the disc just over the basket.
3) Signage is durable metal plate stuff that will never wear out but take a picture of the course map that is posted by #1. We had a hard time finding 12-13-14 without walking to each tee.
4) Some shorts, some long, some wide open, some in tunnels, one impossible shot.
5) #6 is a unique hole in that the entire hole sits on a 45° hillside that runs down into a creek. There is no open path to the hole so there is no option for an ace. A hyzer right of the trees may wind you up with an upshot but I tried a roller across the hill and it was the better path. The hillside is treacherous though. Great place to break an ankle.
6) Even though the park is bordered by the Red River there is a sizable berm all the way around the park and you would have to seriously screw up to lose a disc. So fear not, unless you are a cannon arm with absolutely no directional control.

Cons:

#6- see above. Fun hole, kind like eating ghost peppers. Sure, it looks like fun, seems like a good idea at the time, awful while doing it and then you look back and laugh,
The park looked "junky" at first but the leaves aren't out fully yet and the river was up and muddy so that influenced us a bit.
It does move quickly once you figure out where the holes are.

Other Thoughts:

I was in Fargo for just a weekend and played 3 courses. This was a good 2nd behind the Iwen course. I wanted to hit Oak Grove but had no time. Also played Woodlawn Park while there. Iwen was cool, Trollwood a good second and Woodlawn last. Who knew Fargo had so many options!

Great new addition to the Fargo disc golf scene 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 10, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Challenging holes with good distance
- Nice, uncrowded, park in north Fargo
- Great use of every bit of elevation and trees available

Cons:

- Brush is still a bit thick on ~5 holes
- A couple holes (14&15) are just long bombs with little to no features.
- Non disc golfers using the park can come into play on a few holes

Other Thoughts:

This course is a recent addition to the Fargo scene. I think it has TONS of potential. Holes 2, 6, 16, 17, 18 are definitely "in the woods" and could use some cleaning up. 16 being the worst. Lost discs are definitely an issue on this one but I can see what the course designer is going for. I think with increased traffic and some strategic pruning of trees these holes will be absolutely some of the most challenging in Fargo.

Pros:

Added just last year, this course has really added to disc golf in the Fargo Moorhead area. The designers really did a great job in making a wide variety of shot types with the given available space and trees. Every hill that could have been used is used, which is good because there's only a few hills in Fargo. Also, the tees are placed in a way such that the trees really get in your way, and you have to place each shot.
I also enjoy the fact that a creek and a river really come into play on a few holes, making you think twice about which disc you are throwing. Holes 7 and 15 have the river off to the right of the hole, so if you throw LHBH or RHFH, there is risk of hyzering out into it.
Having this course open recently has really help cutdown the amount of traffic on each of the area courses, considering there were only 2 reasonable courses to play and now there are 4, with Riverfront opening across the river from oak grove.
There are trashcans on some of the holes around the course and there are restrooms near the tee for the 4th hole.

Cons:

This course is only temporary right now, so the teepads are made of dirt. Being that it is in the red river valley and runs along the red river, it is usually flooded in the springtime and sometimes into the summer as well. This also means that if it rains, the course will get wet and sticky due to the high content of clay.
This course is also so new that there is still a lot of brush on the sides of the fairways, which is unlikely to change if we keep getting the floods we have been getting which render the course unplayable for most of the summer. The floods also bring a large amount of trash onto the course as well as depositing large trees into the middle of fairways.
