Pros:
The disc golf course at St. Mary's College basically twice around the baseball and fast pitch fields. There are nine baskets with two tee pads for each hole. This is actually a really nice property for a course, lots of gentle hills, a water hazard and plenty of mature trees scattered about. The course starts up above the right field corner of the baseball field. You tee off from the little stone building there.
I could have enjoyed this course so much more with any kind of navigational aids, tee signs, next tee arrows or a more accurate on-line map. I seldom located both tee pads and in several occasions, I n3ver found either pad.
There is much to like about this course including several fun downhill throws, a couple clever inviting tee pads and the wonderful finishing hole- # 9 and # 18. #'s 1, 2 and 3 are all great fun throwing these epic downhills. I wish I could have found a tee pad for # 4. 3 is a nice landscaped tee pad and the # 5 pad set in the shade of this large tree complete with bench is pretty special, as well.
But it was the final hole which I really enjoyed. The basket sits on a fairly small island with three trees situated around it. This is a great finishing hole for either tournies or competitive play. It's easy to miss the island. But it's still another hole where I couldn't find a tee pad.
Cons:
I believe 5he course kinda lost in way after # 5. First, # 6 has you throwing along a campus road, then # 6 doesn't go where the map has it. Either the parking lot has been built lately or too many cars were getting hit.
No tee signs. This also makes finding the pads more difficult.
On-line map is not accurate.
Next tee arrows or tape on the basket would be helpful.
Other Thoughts:
I like this course more than the 2 and 1/2 rating I gave it. But with issues I had finding tee pads, I can't give it a higher rating. If I was a student here, I would certainly be on this course all the time, probably enough to get me flunked out of St. Marys. The island hole itself is worth the price of admission.
