Hole 9 is the saving grace

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Valley Community plays along the edges of a large park that also features multiple baseball, soccer fields, and a dirt walking path. Nice concrete tee pads that are for the most part level. The tee sign if you can call it that is built into the tee pad which is not something you see much of it because it's a little awkward of a transition from the concrete to the raised part during a runup. It does however show a little map, hole distances, and who sponsored the hole from the local community. There are a few small hills towards the middle of the course that it plays up and down from that help out a little bit. The hole distances themselves are manageable for most everyone without feeling too monotonous on an almost completely open course; not many people enjoy 500 open throws over and over and this was avoided which is appreciated.

Hole 9 is an interesting par 4 hole that has the neighbors fence line as an OB obstacle as well a few skinny, young trees. This is a long RHBH turnover to another turnover or straight approach depending on which side of the tree you find your tee shot. Although this hole is mostly open except for the small tree and fence OB it does do enough to make it feel different from the rest of the course which is a good thing for sure.

Cons:

It's just too open and not elevated enough to really challenge you or for that matter punish you when you make mistakes. Oh you throw your drive 270 feet but it's 100 feet from the basket on the right? Easy upshot, save par, move on to the next hole. You throw it 200 feet but perfectly straight? Easy upshot, save par, move on to the next hole. You get the idea.

Other Thoughts:

I played it when there were two baseball games going on and a soccer game as well. The disc golf portion is out of the way enough that I didn't interfere with them or vise versa which is nice. There are many good courses in the Twin Falls area and I see no reason this would be one you would play on a regular basis. Super locals and hard core course baggers only.

Valley (also known as Hazelton) DGC-Unique tee boxes and some potential to develop. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 10, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Challenges/Pros:
• Very interesting revision to the former tee boxes with inset individual fairway maps (distance, best path, hazards, etc) now inserted into the cement. I haven't seen this before but it is an effective guide and didn't interfere to a great degree with footwork.
• Wind, longer holes, and pins near marked downslopes increase difficulty on the holes. Additionally, the boundaries favor different throws and you could easily lose a disc if it gets over a fence...
• A relatively open course but good mixture of holes favoring forehand and others backhand.
• Ample opportunities for birdies with accurate shots if you have a good arm and great for beginners or more advanced players wanting to practice longer shots early in the season.
• One very tough hole for me (since my forehand is weak) was the 560' #9 that required me to throw an accurate turnover shot around a blind corner and a RHBH anhyzer around a second blind corner on this 560' hole. Very pleased to par it!

Summary of Rating/Play:
• This is appropriately scored with all holes Par 3's except #9 which is longer at 560' plus is hidden around two blind corners making its Par 4 appropriate.
• Very appropriate for beginning to intermediate adults or younger players particularly if one wants to work on longer fairway drives, etc.
• Also good for Masters 50-60+ or for players with bigger arms that want to bomb some mid-ranges.
• In general, I would rate this as a 2 to 3 Star course but would lean to a 3 once the trees near the baskets are more mature or if more trees are planted.

Cons:

Opportunities for Improvement:
• Although the recently planted trees near the baskets are pretty spindly, additional planted trees near the pins would increase difficulty.
• One could also make the course more interesting with clever placement of some posts with mandatories forcing drives to thread tighter lines or travel certain paths to meet the required mandatory placements.

Other Thoughts:

Perspective: Intermediate level, Master's 60+ player with low to intermediate arm strength.

Course Details/Info:
• Recently developed 9-hole course that plays around the Hazelton City Park and ball field.
• A fence and trees borders one edge of the otherwise wide open course. Other borders include a high fence with a pond/wetlands beyond, an open field, and a housing development with high fences.
• There is parking in the paved lot in the park.
• Coming from the freeway I turned right just before a high school and traveled several miles through farmland before turning into the parking lot (just across from a church).
• Organized in a counter-clockwise fashion.
