Sick course!

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 12, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Reviewing pro tees. As close to perfect I've ever seen. Other reviews mentioned construction and unclear signage but it was super easy to navigate.

Cons:

Only thing that could make it more fun, there should be another aceable hole on the back nine even if it was one of the extra holes. But you could always play a white tee for one hole it just wouldn't be official. Maybe you could nitpick that a lot of the holes play the same way like slight left to right slight right to left, tight. It's actually hard to judge the distance because there's usually a big dip in the middle and only one that plays lower than the tee and I think a couple that play higher.

Other Thoughts:

I played on a Thursday morning and there was literally one other person playing the entire hour I was there, I could see it being annoying if it was busy, but this is a course that's perfect to play your first time and I don't think I'd get sick of it if I played it every day.

Be ready to play! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 9, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is challenging. It is hilly and heavily wooded. You have to have great accuracy to play this course. (I only play the back tees so I'm not sure how it is from the shorter tees). From the back tees you will also need power. On many if not all holes, if you do not have a good drive par will be very hard to get. One bad hole can ruin the entire round. This course has a great variety of holes. The majority of holes are in the (200 to 350ft range), which doesn't sound too long but the course plays long. Part of this is that there is lots of uphill elevation on some holes where the drive is extremely difficult. There are also some downhill holes that always fun to play. There are not any holes that are flat for the most part. All holes have some kind of elevation which is awesome. This course is mature and clean. There is no undergrowth or bushes or shrubs. The course does a great job of showing a tunnel or a pathway on where to throw it instead of just throwing the disc into a dense forest and hoping you get lucky. There is a good mic of par 3 and 4s. But the par 4's are legit and still challenging. I don't think the course favors any particular shot, a good arsenal of shots would greatly benefit you. The walking distances between holes is short for most of the holes. The tee pads are in good shape and are nicely shaped. The baksets are pretty nice as well. It is usually not crowded and you can play a round in 1 hour or less. The tee signs are also nice and represent the hole nicely. What really makes me rate this course so high is that you can't lose focus on this course. To get a good score you have to fight through all 22 holes. At other courses if you have a bad drive you can come back and make par no sweat. Not this course. Precision and execution will result in a fun round.

Cons:

This course can be repetitive in the feeling that it is heavily wooded (excluding last 4 holes). The first 8 holes are kinda the same in a way and have a similar feeling. Sometimes there are random trees in the way of your tee shot which can be annoying. Once you have a bad drive it is somtimes impossible to save par. There aren't too many birdie holes and sometimes it can a little tricky to find the next hole if you haven't played there before.

Other Thoughts:

Great wonderful course. There is also 3 softball fields and a soccer field. Definetly should try it out if you are in the area

Pros:

Great course and fantastic signage. I've had this one on my list to try for a while and it will now be a go to course. Some of the holes are tight but very reasonable.

Cons:

Wish the baskets were easier to see.

One of the Area's Best Organized & Maintained Courses! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 17, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Valley Springs is an extremely well organized DGC with three tee options (Red, White, & Blue), which provide different distances and angles in which you can play the course. The red tees are rather short in distance, but are great for beginners.

Some of the holes have seasonal/monthly baskets, so you'll have to refer to the maps at each tee as reference. The great thing about this setup, is that each month the course is slightly different from the month before.

This course features plenty of signage, including course layouts and information documenting seasonal/monthly basket placement. There are benches at the start of each hole for those requiring a resting area. There were even safety considerations built into the course, for example, one of the fairways cuts a 90 degree angle to the tee of the next hole, and they've added a net to protect players on the next tee.

Cons:

- Heavily wooded course which has a tendency to beat up on softer discs.

- Varying elevations with the course taking you up and down hills, so bring your comfortable hiking shoes.

- The course seems to be kinda hazardous in the fall/winter due to the heavy coverage of leaves on the ground, which create a slipping hazard.

- The baskets are kind of difficult to distinguish from the surrounding terrain and woods. Do your best to locate the red tape on the pole of the baskets.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great course in the Durham, NC area. The park has a playground for kids, and some baseball fields for the members of your group that don't feel like playing disc golf.

I am truly amazed at how well organized the course is, especially after reading the reviews from 2008 about there not being any signs. As of currently, there are plenty of markers and signage to assist players to navigate the course.

The course is a well designed course, however, if you're looking for a truly scenic DGC, you're better off going to Buckhorn DGC, which has a great mixture of open and wooded areas, as well as quite a few lakeside holes.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 8, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is one of the few courses where both beginners and advanced players can enjoy themselves. The red, white, and blue tee placements all have their own concrete tee pads, and providing an ideal challenge for beginners (red), recreational/amateur players (white), and pros (blue). The blue layout is challenging, but fair as there are distinct paths to the baskets on each hole. The course is almost entirely shaded, and is usually not too crowded. The layout is separate from the rest of the park. If you're lucky, you could spot a deer. Top-quality tee signs were recently added on all holes, including the four extra holes; that was the course's biggest weakness up until then.

Cons:

Now that tee signs have been added, the only real "cons" are the mosquitoes in the summer (bug spray is recommended), and the lack of open, "let-er-rip" holes. (Experienced players won't mind, but novices might.)

Other Thoughts:

Four new holes have recently been installed, although these holes only have one concrete tee pad her hole. They are some of the most challenging holes on the course from any tee, so novice players beware. The tee pads are "white", but they play more like blue tees when compared to the first 18 holes.

I think this is the best course in the Triangle. But that's only my opinion, one that is not shared by everyone.
