Not a Course drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 13, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are no Pros. This should not be considered a course

Cons:

No intention of disparaging the people who made this course. Unfortunately, this should not be considered a course. I could only find 3 baskets. No tee pads. No signs. The stinging nettles are everywhere. The thorny Blackberries have completely overrun the course between this date and the earlier reviews. Essentially unplayable. The weeds are so prevalent your disc will get burred and require a search on even the shortest throws and knowing where it landed.

Other Thoughts:

As I said above, I have no intention of being disparaging. I am not trying to be negative, just factual. I cannot imaging that anyone is actually playing this course. Maybe at some point in the future someone will clean it up and it will become playable. As of this writing it is not playable.

Delisting this non-course is probably a reality. I don't want to make that call. Maybe someone will clean it up, add baskets, etc., etc.?

Yikes!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Not much for Pros, easy to find the 2 baskets!

Cons:

All we could find was 2 holes, no labels, no tees no marking other than pointing to the 2 unmarked holes.

Other Thoughts:

Upon arrival we saw 2 baskets and no tees, the 2 baskets didn't have numbers. Possibly there are more baskets in the brush behind the 2 visible baskets but climbing through thick blackberries isn't much fun so we didn't and went to a different close by course. There is 1 sign pointing to the field where we saw the 2 baskets but that was it. No overlay of the course or any other signs.

A Tale Of Two Plants--Nettles And Blackberry Bushes! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 20, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

The little 9 hole recreational course at Valley View Middle School is easy find but more difficult to navigate. As you drive into the school, drive just past the lovely, turfed track/football field to the smaller grass field. The course starts and finishes at opposite ends of this small field. There are small fiberglass tee signs with only the hole number on them. The baskets are basic no name models. There are no tee pads.

# 1 is just a short, 140' hole to a basket set right in front of the discus cage. It's set so close that a bounce off the fence ACE shot might be possible. After thus hole is where the fun really starts. Holes 2-8 are all set up in a very nasty, nettle and blackberry filled section of the woods here. Most play down the small walking path with basically a 4 foot wide fairway. Leaving your shot wide to either side means you're disc is probably buried in the 2-3 foot high nettles. If you're lucky, it's just buried in the blackberry bushes.

There were a couple of small sticks with the hole distance written on them. The baskets are sometimes not visible from the non-tee pads. After fighting the stinging nettles (mine are still itching a full two days later), you finish with # 9 throwing back towards the school with the basket just behind the softball backstop. Which by the way is about 140' to reach the left field fence. Most of the 6th grade girls here probably go yard here!

Cons:

First and most obvious are the plethora of stinging nettles that are thick throughout the majority of the course. Next comes the blackberry bushes.

I found the tee signs to be a problem. They don't face the basket but are set facing what would be the side of the tee pad, if there were any tee pads. So when you do find a tee sign in this jungle, you still have to determine whether the basket if left or right from said tee sign, or north or south, or east or west? Confused? Yeah, me too and I'm the one who just wrote this. But I'm happy to confirm that I'm not the culprit who put these confusing signs in.

Other Thoughts:

Nettles are easy to knock down with any stick you have available. I must have toppled a 1000 of them. Unfortunately, that only leaves about a million more. If this course was to receive any play at all, they would all get trampled down with use. But that's not going to happen here. I fear this course is just going to slowly get taken over by this jungle of very nasty, very stinging and itchy nettles.

But unlike General McArthur, I won't be returning!

Spotter, long pants, and a machete required!

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 6, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Finding the course is simple, just follow the large signs that say "Disc Golf" and have an arrow pointing you in the right direction. Navigation is quite simple just look for the old, blank tee signs and throw from that vicinity because there are no official tee pads, only grass. There is old white caution tape that guides you to the basket as there are several blind shots here but because of overgrowth not because of course design. The design is really good for a middle school out in the middle of nowhere and though most of the holes are putter shots the layout and theory of said holes is quite good; in short: whomever designed it had an idea of what a course should look like. Several routes to each hole even when a fairway looks forced which I like quite a bit. All of the baskets are in great shape even though number nine is leaning it doesn't wiggle loose so that's good.

Cons:

Nettles, nettles, and more nettles. Also sticker bushes and other pointy bushes and sticks ready to poke you in the eye or somewhere else. Oh yeah and nettles; did I mention nettles? The course is overgrown in the winter with knee high nettles (NETTLES!!!!!) so I can't even imagine what August is gonna look like. A few fairways tree limbs need to be trimmed slightly to open the route up or bring in a new route; mostly speaking about hole eight but a few others wouldn't hurt either. No defined tee pads I guess is fine when you're fooling around but it would be nice to have a set spot because stepping right or left or back even a few feet you can gain an advantage over the course or your buddy. I had a decent time here with my dad but I wouldn't attempt playing it by myself with discs I care about.

Other Thoughts:

The course is laid out well and the holes are fun for superclass discs or your putter. This would be a really good after work course it just needs some TLC in a real bad way. I found out about this course on accident so I added it to the site but I doubt many people know about this course. Maybe some "boots on the ground" would help with underbrush.
