- Great maps on premises and decent signage

- Concrete tees and baskets in good condition

- I feel like I've been saying this a lot for the area, and I've never gotten one, but ace runs abound, if that's your thing

- Easy to navigate, though I'd have a map handy the first time out

- There is a mix of elevation, albeit lopsided, and a hint of variation in distance and shots needed. Nice usage of the available foliage, especially on the front 7.

- If it isn't crowded it's a great place for a quick 18, and wouldn't be a terrible choice to bring a beginner either

- Gets crowded, more on that below.

- The front 7 could be considered crammed-as-hell, with potential for creating bottlenecks that last the rest of your round

- After getting to stretch your arm a bit on 8 & 9 the rest of the course is just as short as the front 7, as a result, it gets repetitive

I played most of Valmont one weekend recently and quit after 11 just because I was tired of being just too far to play through but close enough to be delayed by a group in front of me. I went back a few days later and was able to finish the course though it was still crowded as all get-out however I was able to play through more than a couple groups. So yea, crowds, man. Maybe it isn't that bad on weekday mornings, but be prepared.

There are some places to sit along the course but I don't recall trash cans. I agree w/ Parataxis's Other Thoughts in 2016.

Valmont has some good qualities but w/ 16 holes under 300' it's definitely a niche course. If you want to practice your short game it's awesome, but if you're looking for a well-rounded, balanced round, I'm not sure it's here. I'll play it again I'm sure, and it's definitely worth the stop if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a destination course.

Front 9 is wooded and has some challenge. I'm a beginner so having a chance to practice touch shots has been beneficial. Back 9 allows you to get 2 distance throws and the rest are wide open (some trees). If I can shoot a -3 here than a good player can probably get into -10 or better territory.

Crowded as any course can be. Routinely waiting on every hole to throw. The back 9 is somewhat boring compared to the front nine. They need to figure out a way to incorporate a the woods into all 18 holes... not sure how, but the back 9 is lacking.

Beat the crowd and get there early.

-Full 18 hole course
-A few dog legs
-Good view of the mountains
-You're probably going to make some birdies

-Ridiculously short for an 18 hole course. People are not kidding when they say the distance posted on the signs are incorrect. Hole 18 was especially disappointing.

-Not much here as far as technical shots go. Most holes simply follow the walking path from the hole to the tee, though there are some dog legs in the beginning.

-The simplicity of the course does get boring on the back 9. These holes show almost no creativity, simply being a little over a 100 feet from the starting tee in a straight line.

It's really disappointing that this is all Boulder has to offer. Coming from a small town in Oklahoma that had multiple 18 hole courses (many of them technical courses) this course (the only 18 hole in Boulder) just does not hold up.

There was clearly some thought put into this course. There is a local crowd who loves this course and seem to be doing a great job of getting things done and done well. There are lots of features to this course that are clearly designed to keep the course in the ground. The baskets are all in great condition. The tee pads are quite nice and very consistent from hole to hole. Baskets are placed in thoughtful spots. The design uses just about every possible good inch of this piece of land. There is a port-o-potty on the back side of the course. There are other things to do in the park that shares land with this course. There is a good variety of shots in the first seven holes. This would be a very good place to take a beginner to play disc golf. It does a descent job of keeping more advanced players somewhat entertained for at least a few holes.

This course is mostly short and they really tried to fit a course in on a piece of land that is not really well suited for a full 18 hole disc golf course. The best holes are the first seven and they are squeezed onto a small mound in the park. Holes are close to each other throughout the course and there are a few times when one needs to ask which basket they are throwing to. There are only three holes over or at 300 feet. There are plenty of holes under 200 feet. There are so many filler holes it really takes away from some of the better holes on this course. There are some erosion issues that appear to be noticed at this point, but hard to say what can be done moving forward. There is a prairie dog issue that is mitigated at this point as long as people keep the fences working correctly.

This course also has a nickname of the Junkyard since holes 8 through 16 are on an old junkyard. There are still random rusted car pieces that can be found on the ground. Really the first seven holes were enjoyable, even if one of them is basically a jump putt. After that it gets boring for the most part. The last two holes are in the green part of the park where other people may be using the park and may cause some issues with pedestrians. Otherwise the prairie dog fences should keep out other park traffic fairly well. This really isn't a course to go out of your way to play but may be a great place to take people who have never played before. It really does just barely fit into the land that it is on. I am sure with the local crowd that is there, it will get good care.

-Biggest pro is the teepads. Some of the best in Colorado, seriously. Wide, long, level and we'll bordered. Too bad they aren't necessary on these short holes

-Good spot for begginers. Super short, but with enough obstacles and shot shaping on the first seven holes to give a challenge as well

-Great views of the mountains in the background

-Great full color, informative tee signs. Big Map at the entrance to the course, and lots of signs pointing you to hole 1 and hole 8 as well (which could be confusing without them)

-Land is well-maintained with trash cans, benches and gopher fences to protect the land

-Way too short. Marked distances are incorrect on some of the shortest holes. Hole 16 is a joke. It's made 140 feet. During a doubles event here, I saw more than a few people jump putting....from the teepad.

-With the decision to split the course into three separate sections, I fail to see why they didn't add more distance to the back nine holes

-After the first seven holes there is really no obstacles to speak of aside from an OB fence and a port-a-john

-the basket for holes 13 and 16 are right next to each other, but the backside of 13 is blind from its teepad. I could easily see someone getting pegged while they are trying to putt out. There are other safety issues, but this is the biggest one

-The first seven holes are the highlights, but could be retooled to be three or four holes and it would still be good for beginners and add challenge to more experienced players

-Holes 8 and 9, both over 350 (hole 9 plays like a 400 foot hole as it is slightly uphill) kind of come out of nowhere. What I mean by this is after seven holes of very short touch shots, it's odd to have two holes to air it out. Difficult to adjust to.

Valmont is a local favorite, and said local players put in a lot of work to keep this course in good order. And it's good for what it is. I had fun playing the Winter Warriors doubles series here. I wouldn't go out of my way to play this course, and neither should you. However, it is unique enough that if you're in Boulder, you should give it a shot.

-good course to bring beginners

-only 18 in Boulder, busy course and lots of pedestrians
-i had someone walk off with my disc off the walking path before i got down there, keep an eye out on holes 3 and 7

Valmont is a fun pitch and putt course for the first 7 holes. They have elevation, trees, lines to hit, and fun ace runs. This part of the course is really enjoyable.

Once you leave that area of the park, the course is wide open, flat, and totally boring. Holes 8-11 are in a field and 12-16 are in another field that has a tiny ridge along one side. 17 and 18 are in a small grassy area that has two patches of very small trees and ball fields in the middle.

I think this course would be much better as a 9 hole with 17 and 18 redesigned to flow from hole 7. I agree with mndiscg that the other 9 baskets could surely be put to better use somewhere else. I guess some people would rather have an 18 hole course, even if it totally sucks, but I'd be rooting for changes if I were a Boulder local. It's no fault of the designer, there is just no way to put good holes on some of this land.

As it is, this is a good course to bring beginners. It is easy and there shouldn't be too much danger of a lost disc. Only holes 8-10 will require a driver, even for shorter arms. It gets a bit busy since it's one of only two courses in Boulder and the only 18. This area really needs a real course.

-Solid baskets and tees. They were in good working order and looked fine.
-Pretty easy to find your way around. The next tee was always close by. There were no blind tee shots so you always knew which basket you were throwing at. They had number plates just to be sure.
-Ace Runs! For almost everybody there will be the chance at an ace on at least a few holes if not all of them.
-I liked the start of this course. 1-7 were short and relatively easy but they did have some tempting ace runs where you might have a long putt back if you blow past the basket. 1-7 had some fun elevation as well.
-Good for bringing the young and the old, beginners, kids, etc. They will enjoy this course and won't be overwhelmed.
-There really isn't any chance to lose a disc.
-Nice views of the Flatirons (not as good as Harlow Platts)
-Boulder has beautiful weather.
-They keep the prairie dogs off the course so that you won't break a leg in a hole.

-Extremely short and easy.
-8-16 got really boring. I can't imagine playing this course again. Maybe I would play 1-7 on repeat instead of playing the later holes.
-This course could be busy as it is one of two courses in Boulder and this is an active community.
-Prairie dog fences were kind of annoying but I guess it is the lesser of two evils.
-Not a lot of shot shaping required, a little on 1-7 and then it's completely open (with a few scattered trees) until the final 2 holes.

-I think they should have made this an interesting pitch and putt/ace run course in the area where 1-7 were and maybe a hole or two in the middle area where 17 and 18 were. The area where 8-16 were located was flat, open, and generally boring. 18 holes isn't always a pro in my opinion and I think they could have used the other 9 baskets in another park in town.
-This course won't disappoint if you know what to expect. I won't stop here again because I was getting bored during this round. If you haven't played here, you might as well stop and bag this course and hope for an ace. It is a quick play if it isn't busy.
-As many reviewers have said, Boulder is lacking in both quantity and quality of disc golf courses. There should be some space in the foothills where a challenging, hilly, and fun course could be put in. For such an active town, there is much to be desired in the disc golf world.

I recently moved from Oregon to Boulder and wanted to check out the local 18. I basically came from disc golf Mecca playing courses like Milo Mciver, Hornings, Adair Park etc. So in Comparison this course is very weak. But on its own it has a certain charm and is maintained well. The front nine are very short holes with a litte elevation and trees. Actually aced hole #3 with my Zone which was cool. ( I would say I used my Zone off the tee more often than not). In fact 80% of the holes I used a putter off the tee. I'm no expert or bomber by any means but 160' -180' holes abound here. There was a couple holes I pulled out the driver and it was a nice change.

All in all this course will make you a better player as it challenges you to have an accurate mid game and putt game. Also it is a perfect course for beginners to learn on. Advanced players will have fun getting double digit scores here. I wish there was a course within 10 miles that offered more of a complete experience. But hey I had fun anyway!

UPDATE: So after playing this course a few more times I can see how a lot of people were disappointed in the final layout. There a bunch of unnecessary holes on the back 9. I mean a dead straight 150' shot with no obstacles is frankly worthless. And there a few that are exactly that. It seems as the "18 hole course" label was more important than actually designing fun shots. Now I don't claim to know how to design a course or anything but I think there would have been no harm in developing a 12-15 hole course of more quality shots or at least more variety. That said I'm going there now! Perfect weather!

The tree placement was decent at first but now I'm not so sure how I feel about it with all of them being cleared out. The gates and fences to keep the prairie dogs out are pretty sweet. The baskets themselves are quite nice as well.

TOO SHORT! I know they didn't have the space and I appreciate the fairways not crossing but you only need a putter for half of these holes.

Right now, its decent. I can see this being a pretty nice course by mid summer but that's if they can either add a few more trees or adjust the basket locations to make it a little more technical.

-It is the perfect place to improve your putting, approaches, mid range, practice various touch shots, and flight paths.
-It's 18 holes in boulder!
-Great views

-I would love more obstacles, technical challenges, trees and length. But who wouldn't.

This is the course we have now, it's not perfect but it is a step in the right direction. If the Boulder Disc Golf Community can stay patient, proactive, and involved then this course could really become something special.
