Tight course forces a variety of different shots. Very scenic along the Fox river. Mach 3 baskets

Terrible tee markers. Layout is confusing at best for first time players with no map available to help you find your way around. Course is located in three different parks, with a 1 block walk between 1-5 and 6-9.

As others have have said, the worst thing about this course is the lack of tee boxes and proper markers. I was lucky enough to be able to play behind a group of locals, and followed them, otherwise I wouldn't have had a chance. Holes are a mix of short, mostly open shots, nothing will challenge you much other than finding the tee. Many people fish, ride bike, and recreate in the second park, and it can make it difficult to play without danger of sending a disc into someone. 1-5 would be decent if you live in town to go practice, but going out of your way to play the course isn't the best use of your time.

Village Center Disc Golf Course is actually located in three separate parks. Two are next to one another (Community Park & SEBA Park); the third is several blocks to the north (Panton Mill Park.) Holes 1-4 and the tee for 5 are in Community Park, the basket for 5 is in SEBA Park, and holes 6-9 are quite a distance away in Panton Mill Park. They came up with a nice solution to the problem of not enough land to find room for nine holes. Some of the holes have some decent distance. Not Pro-challenging distance, but you can pull out a driver a few times. The course has poles marking the tees with flags noting the hole #, and the baskets have flags on top to help you locate them..

Holes 6-9 are poorly designed. The basket for 9 is actually in the fairway for 6. If you had people on all four of these holes at one time, somebody would have to yell "Fore!" None of the tees are marked all that well, but I had a particularly frustrating time finding the tee for # 8. It is unnecessarily close to the pin for # 7 given all the room they had to put it in. ***UPDATE - There is a parking lot where hole # 9 used to be. Hole # 6 has been moved so that the basket is so close to the tee for # 7 that it might be in the 10M circle. Hole #9 is now a wide open, very short hole with a tee that is much too close to the basket for # 8. As bad as these back four holes were originally, they are actually worse now. On the plus side, the tees are marked better now and # 6 and # 9 are now nowhere near each other. ***

Holes 1-5 are better, but there is really nothing special about them. The fairway for # 1 runs parallel to some back yards pretty closely on the right, so that's not a good hole to practice your hyzerflip drives on. The basket for hole # 2 is across the creek from the tee very near an area where cars park for the trolley museum and baseball fields, and that could cause a problem when those areas are open. The basket for # 5 is in the same general area as a playground, and more than once I've had to ask kids to stop hitting the chains with sticks and move out of the way to play that hole.

IMO the two areas are farther than walking distance, so I would recommend driving over to the back four holes.

The tees are marked with a simple pole with a flag showing the hole number. No distances are noted. There are blocks on either side of the pole so I guess you can tee from either side of the pole. Perhaps the most telling thing about this course is the fact that almost three years after it opened there are no wear patterns at the tees. It evidently has not gotten enough play over that time to even wear out the grass on the tees.

Because there really isn't a sign anywhere giving the name of this course and it is located in more than one park, you will hear it called by several different names. Most commonly it is just called "South Elgin Disc Golf Course" but it is also commonly called "SEBA Park," probably because SEBA Park is the middle of the three parks in use.

The general feeling about this course can be summed up when you stand on a tee and look down...that grass growing happily under your feet proves that few disc golfers have stood there before you. It's not the worst disc golf course I've seen, but if you skip it you really are not missing much.
